This book had a great story and a potentially great romance between the two main characters. However, the writing was not good. I felt bored reading most of it and conversations were very repetitive. The worst thing though was the lack of emotion or connection between characters and also between the reader and the characters. The author failed to create interesting or believable relationships between these people. For example, we were expected to understand this epic romance and break-up between ...more

I enjoyed the read but the I was annoyed with the stupid decisions made by the main character.

The Good
If you are looking for a paranormal mystery, Witch Hearts is the book for you. The action and suspense were nonstop. I truly did not know who was behind everything till the very end, and even then there were more surprises in store for me. Uh I don't mean to brag or anything (meaning I totally mean to brag or something) but I got to read this book forever ago. I mean, parts of it I read before the characters were named Ruby and Cooper.

Yeah, that's right. I know the author.

(everything after this has been re-written at least a half dozen times as I tried to do this book justice without ticking off Wiccans.)

In all seriousness though, Liz had asked me to read the first chapter once a long, long time ago, and I was instan

I received Witch Hearts in exchange for a fair and honest review.

It’s official… Liz Long is now on my short list of authors to watch. Her characters are smart (except when they’re doing something incredibly stupid or dangerous.) The mystery and danger kept me on the edge of my seat and the interactions between the characters as well as the dialogue was realistic and natural. Witch Hearts covered some seriously dark ground, but there were still some bright spots that lightened things up just en
With a killer on the loose and killing witches in a brutal manner, Ruby knows she needs to be careful but when the killer strikes close to home and makes his intended victim known, Ruby is thrust into a fight for her life and her love.

This is one of those books that grabs you from the very first page and won't let go. It has everything you could want in a book, and more. It has witches, magic, mystery, covens and a side of black magic. You can even tell by the cover that this isn't a fluffy mag

First and foremost…take a good look at the cover! Creepy right? And so wonderfully done for this type of read! And while I’m at it, this is such a huge leap from Ms. Long’s Donovan Circus series! This is a dark tale of love, obsession, power and greed gone horrifically wrong.

Once again, even with the paranormal being the main focus with our MC, Ms. Long was able to lure me into this world where humans and witches co-exist. We don’t spend too much time on the human level, which honestly, is a ni

When I first read the book summary for "Witch Hearts" it sounded like a read I could truly embrace. Unfortunately, this book was basically middle of the road for me. Why? Here are my challenges with it:

1) The author description of Ruby is that she is a powerful witch; yet, no where does she write any scenes where she demonstrates anything other than simple. Additionally, Ruby is always being rescued or saved by someone. She really isn't a kickass, take no prisoners sort of girl.

2) The. romance u

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Witch Hearts.

Lately I've been reading a lot of Contemporary romance and/or Paranormal Romance so this little crime thriller was a great change of pace. The author equates it to Criminal Minds and Charmed and I agree that that is spot on.

Like the witches spells created in the book this story has a dash of every genre. Plenty of paranormal elements, crime/thriller drama going on and a romantic mix is included too.

Liz has an easy effortless way of telling a story. It's

I received this book for an honest review, and I almost didn't when I found out that this is a stand alone novel, but I actually found myself loving it.

It's about a serial killer who kills witches and takes their hearts for some bizarre ritual. It starts out with Ruby's best friend Courtney being kidnapped and having her heart cut out. Courtney's brother Cooper comes to town after hearing about it, and the story just keeps getting better and better and better. The only reason I didn't give it a

Loved the story, loved the characters, loved the magic and loved the mystery!
Witch hearts was not what I expected, was even better! I just wanted to keep reading. Its a page turner all the way.
The author Liz Long knows just how much information and clues to give to not spoil the mystery and to keep it interesting. And is so well written.
Also, I really like the conection between Ruby and Courtney and how you could feel their friendship through the pages. It reminded me of my own sister.

I really enjoyed this book. It's one of the ones that you pick up and it keeps you hooked from beginning to end, so much so that you have to read it in one sitting. It was the perfect blend, of murder, mystery, twists, turns, romance, love, hate and of course witch craft. I would definitely recommend it. ...more

I am very critical when it comes to reviews. There really isn't much I liked about this book at all. I think the cover was the best part. This is my second book by this author, and I can see how her writing has progressed a great deal from this one. I still enjoyed this book though.

It starts with a bang...or a murder anyway so you are immediately invested. In truth, there were times I liked and cared more for the murder victims than the MCs though. I think this goes back to the author's style still developing - the most powerful witch MC just kinda fizzles with questionable decisions and only one show of power. How
Witch Hearts by Liz Long
It was creepy, there is paranormal activity, there is a mystery to solve, it has likable characters, it has romance. I found the premise interesting, the story held my interest, however the main character was so annoying; Ruby made a lot of "too stupid to live" decisions and for me that detracted from the story. Nice story to read for halloween. 3 stars.

THIS WAS SUCH A GREAT BOOK!!! I don't even know where to begin.

Well, first off, this is the first PUBLISHED book by Liz that I have read. And I was NOT disappointed. I am a huge fan of paranormal and fantasy reads. I live for magic and special abilities. And Liz delivered on BOTH fronts. This is a rather scary read. Lots of mystery and many questions, but it's balanced with the perfect amount of humor and sarcastic crac

My Thoughts

I'll just come out and be honest upfront. I have never really been a fan of mystery novels. My anxiety always gets the best of me and I can't keep up with what's going on. OR I get super bored by how long it takes and end up not finishing the novel. However, I do love witches. When it comes to paranormal/supernatural stuff witches are m

A pleasant surprise

This was a really fun read, which considering the subject matter—a serial killer going around stealing witch hearts—is a slightly weird statement, but I stand by it. It was a great balance of mystery and romance, with a backdrop of witchcraft which was all brought to life through its engaging and likeable characters. I really liked it. And bonus! I believe it's a stand alone, which as you probably know, are rarer than rocking horse poop these days.

When I was first approached about reading Witch Hearts, I was a little skeptical because I was told that it was reminiscent of Criminal Minds. Stop it. Wait right there. Growing up, my dad was a forensic scientist (or criminalist). I grew up with this stuff. And I have messed up childhood science fairs to prove it! One year, I did bullet analysis and the next, blood spatter. I got some super weird looks but I thought it was cool ... now that I think about it, I wonder if my teachers thought I wa ...more

The very first chapter sounds like it's describing the beginning of an episode of Criminal Minds. I've always loved that show, even though I can't watch it after dark in a house by myself(I'm not a fan of scary, if you couldn't tell, haha). So to find the first chapter sounding so similar to the opening scenes of an episode I was immediately drawn in. After the first chapter, we're given third person perspective still, but it also focuses on Ruby and there's more an air of familiarity. It is sti ...more

This book is something of a twisted story. It opens with the brutal murder of our heroine’s best friend, Courtney. Ruby is beside herself with grief when Courtney’s older brother, Cooper arrives to help find the killer and deliver his own revenge. On top of everything else, Ruby has to deal with her pain in the butt ex-boyfriend who keeps trying to insert himself back into her life.

I mean Witch Hearts wasn't bad but it could have definitely been better especially the writing. Because of average writing I felt no whatsoever connection with the characters. Since I couldn't give a damn; it took me a really long time to finish this book.
The only character that I ever liked was Courtney but too bad she's dead and appeared only few times. Witch magic was downplayed and the focus was more on Ruby and the crime. I

Courtney, a witch, carried protection potions with her at all times. This did not help her when a very powerful, black witch kidnaps and murders her. The ritual that killed her involved removing her heart. She was not the first witch to die in this way. Two others before her were killed in the same manner.

Cooper, Courtney's brother, returned to town to avenge his sister's death. His past arrived with him, as his black magic

If there is one thing that I know I can expect from Ms. Long is that when I pick up one of her books I know I can expect something different, unique and engaging.

Long convinced me with her debut novel Gifted that she could write and with Witch Hearts she kept that belief alive and kicking. This book has a little bit of something to please everyone. It is full of mystery, romance, magic and a psychotic killer on the lose that will keep you on your toes. Just when I thought I read it all

Not being a huge fan of witch theme stories, I tend to not read a lot of them. Although there are a couple I have read and loved. Like Karice Bolton's WITCH AVE series and the HOUSE OF NIGHT series. Of course, with the author being Liz Long, there was no way I could turn down the chance to read another book by her. I adored GIFTED, even though I continuously called one o ...more
