While Steele is guarding a stagecoach, some bandits rob it. They kill a male passenger and when the coach driver makes the bandits mad, they kill a newlywed bride. They also steal the strong box along with the one possession Steele will die for, the rifle his dead father left him. So, he chases them across the burning desert. Thus, the title, "Gun Run."

Wild, violent western with a straightforward story. Adam Steele’s stagecoach is held up - a man and woman are killed, treasure stolen. Steele vows revenge, not for the innocents killed or the gold stolen but for the battered old rifle that they took with them - a rifle that once belonged to Steele’s father. To retrieve his rifle Steele will move Heaven and Hell as he faces fierce Apaches, murderous banditos, Mexican federales, and scorching desert days with freezing nights. Gilman is a master of writing amoral characters, exciting western gun fights, and vengeance driven missions across epic American landscapes.
