I didn't enjoy this one at all.
I almost didn't finish this one. I really couldn't get into it.
The heroine took her daughter to a cult to be faith healed. It was so obvious it was a cult! The heroine felt pressured to say yes, and she's grasping at straws just hoping and praying her daughter will be healed.
The heroine ignored every feeling and instinct she had to say no. After she said yes, she still ignored all her instincts and the red flags. Meanwhile, the heroine is a wolf shifter, so her instincts are pretty good.
The hero is the son of the villain (not a spoiler), and he escaped that cult after the death of his twin sister at the hands of their "faith healer" father. Both he and his sister are wolves as well, and their father didn't know, so he felt he had to punish the demons inside them once he found out. It's horrible, but because of that upbringing, the hero is a wimpy, scared man. But when he sees the heroine on TV being sucked into his father's cult, he knows that while he couldn't save his sister, he'll do his best to save the unknown little girl.
I normally wouldn't mind a more alpha heroine than the hero, but the hero came off so scared and annoying. The heroine was just as bad. This book didn't work for me at all. Hopefully fans of this author will enjoy it, but I won't recommend it unless you want a hero who instead of coming off damaged, he comes off as scared.
*As always, what didn't work for me might be something you enjoy, so hopefully I gave enough detail without spoiling that my 1 star rating won't change your mind if you thought this sounded good.

Blythe's daughter is sick. Exhausting her resources, Blythe turns to Jacob Gideon. Jacob promises to heal her daughter Hailey.
Granted, if Blythe had listened to her instincts we wouldn't have had a story. Her instincts are good ones (and she is a Shifter too). So, despite she being an idiot, I got into the story. I could see someone who loved their kid, doing something desperate and ignoring everything else. Lucas was a good hero, wounded, but was able to overcome. I liked that there was more going on then at first appeared.

The story concept is s0lid, but the execution was dull because the problems and twists were practically telegraphed to the reader (yes, the creepy lady will now just lock you in this room, no worries; yes, your magically accurate instincts are telling you this guy is bad news, so listen; duh, the conversation about what happened to the sister's body is way too obvious), and the romantic entanglement and obstacles felt too artificial.

Now, the wolf in Lucas is driving him to save Blythe and her young daughter from a man he knows is evil personified. A man who believes all shapeshifters are demons straight from hell. But Lucas knows he must never reveal the secret that threatens to tear him apart—not even to the one woman who could heal him.
To tell you the truth, I was not particularly impressed by the story and the characters in this book, but if I had to say why I don't really know.
The book is written in a smooth way, the plot is different from the usual books about werewolves, but anyway I didn't feel involved from the story while I was reading it.
Lucas is the son of a wealthy and influential man, a preacher who has created his own sect, and tortured for years his son due to his nature as a werewolf. Aside from the twin sister, the boy has never had contact with other creatures like him, has never been part of a pack and after escaping from imprisonment he did everything to live safe life, hiding from the man who has ruined his past. More than anything he survived. But seeing that his history is about to repeat itself at the expense of another innocent woman, unaware of the danger, Lucas decides that it is time to face his enemy.
Blythe on the contrary has lived in apack, used to have contact with others of her species and she only hope to be able to heal her sick daughter, seeking any kind of help and solution, even that of a preacher, not knowing what the man is hidind.
Lucas and Blythe feel attracted from each other from the start, but they have a more important mission to accomplish, save Blythe's daughter from the hands of Lucas' father.
The book is part of the series "The Pack", but the story is so centered on two characters and can also be read for itself.

Il libro è scritto in modo abbastanza scorrevole, la trama differente dai soliti libri sui licantropi, ma comunque non mi sono sentita coinvolta dalla storia mentre la leggevo.
Lucas è il figlio di un uomo ricco e influente, una sorta di predicatore che ha creato una sua setta, e ha torturato per anni il figlio a causa della sua natura di licantropo. A parte la sorella gemella, l'uomo non ha mai avuto contatti con altre creature come lui, non ha mai fatto parte di un branco e dopo essere scappato dalla sua prigionia ha fatto di tutto per vivere al sicuro, nascondendosi dall'uomo che ha rovinato la sua vita. Più che altro è sopravvissuto. Ma vedendo che la storia sta per ripetersi ai danni di un'altra creatura innocente e ignara di quello che l'aspetta, Lucas decide che è ora di affrontare il suo nemico.
Blythe al contrario è vissuta in un branco, abituata ad avere contatti con altri della sua specie e solo la speranza di poter far guarire la figlia malata la spinge a cercare qualsiasi tipo di aiuto e soluzione, anche quella di un predicatore, non sapendo quello che l'uomo nasconde dietro la sua facciata.
Lucas e Blythe su sentono attratti subito l'uno dall'altra, ma hanno una missione più importante da portare a termine, salvare la figlia di Blythe dalle mani del padre di Lucas.
Il libro fa parte della serie "The Pack" di questa autrice, ma la storia essendo incentrata sui due protagonisti può anche essere letto a sé.

Title: The Lost Wolf's Destiny

Thoughts: This is another one of those books that just failed to really hook me into it. The story was good and it was action packed - but for some reason it just didn't hit you as a great read. The characters were passable, but I just really didn't feel an overwhelming connection to each other that I want to see in the books I read. Things were never really explained fully and to my satisfaction either.
If you've read any of Whiddon's books before, you know she has been at this series for awhile. I had read some of the first books in this series years ago, and really enjoyed them. I think part of the problem (for me anyway) is the fact that we have a series that has gone on for a grand total - so far- fourteen books. The problem with that, at least in my view, is that we are dealing with a Harlequin Nocturne novel. Not to bash Harlequin - I love them and I especially love the Nocturne novels (and the Silhouette Shadow series before that), but as we all know, they are fairly short in length. But to catch people up on a back history that has encompassed fourteen books, and still come away with fresh and new ideas to reel in new readers - it's just a bit much to cram into a short novel. While you weren't completely lost, it was obvious that you were missing out on things from previous novels. And then we have other characters that are brought in with the obvious intent of continuing with yet another book in this series, who we are introduced to - yet left kind of hanging at the end.
Along with that, we have things that were just unrealistic or didn't make sense, or reactions that just didn't ring true. In particular, after she gets her daughter back the first time - there is no way you could have separated me from my daughter. And even if she was out of my sight overnight, the very first thing a mother would do before taking a shower in the morning is check on her child! Especially with all they had been through already. I can also see people having issues with what they may perceive as leaving the daughter in dangerous situations, thinking about issues like romance and sex when their child s missing, etc.
Good but not great, and not one that will stick out in my memory. Overall, I think this series has went well past its end date. It was a good series, but let it go already.

Lucas has a very tortured past, having run away from the family compound as a teen, after his father tried to "cure" him of shifting into a wolf. He was never exposed to the truth of his kind or given any explanations because his mother died before she could explain anything to him or his twin sister. The twins were left with their father who viewed them as abominations. Lucas only left the abuse when his twin was killed and he could stand no more. He has been a loner ever since. Meanwhile, his father has become a famous religious leader, often curing people with "miracles" on live TV, basing himself in rural Texas. When Lucas sees a woman named Blythe and her terminally ill daughter on TV, desperate for help, giving themselves over to be cured, he knows that it's time to return home before anyone else gets hurt. What he doesn't know is that Blythe is also a wolf and her daughter is considered very special to the Pack, knowledge that could place them is even graver danger. After a few days at the compound Blythe realizes she's made a horrible mistake and accepts Lucas's offer to help them escape.
Lost Wolf has great potential but suffers from pacing issues, being slow in the beginning with plenty of stop/go that leads to a somewhat rushed ending. The repetitious behavior makes it seem like Blythe doesn't know her own mind and she bounces back and forth between trusting Lucas and not, wanting Lucas and not, resistant to the Pack and then not. It's frustrating for the reader. She tries to be a strong, independent woman, but her desperation leads to a slew of bad decisions and causes her to turn her back on the people that can protect them, so she instead comes across to readers as indecisive and weak.
On the other hand, Lucas is interesting and honorable, because he is facing his own personal demons on behalf of a stranger, a woman that he sees briefly on TV. She appeals to his wolf and he wants to end the cycle of terror his father has caused by hunting his kind and experimenting on them. He is suspicious of the Pack but his wolf guides him in the right direction, and he trusts himself to make the right decisions. Lucas is very much the reluctant hero.
Having, in part, chose this book to read and review by the beautiful cover, I was bummed to find that it has very little to do with the actual story. It's irritating when cover art doesn't match up with content. More than once I wished the book was "more"...more romance with more heat, more evil from the zealot cult so I could actually feel the danger, and more backstory from Blythe and the Pack (we get a decent amount about Lucas). They do get a happy ending, which I liked, because finally they stopped the tug and pull by being honest and open about their emotions and expectations. After years of loneliness, Lucas deserves his HEA and after years of desperation and pain, Blythe does too.

The Lost Wolf's Destiny by Karen Whiddon is an urban fantasy and romance that is scheduled for release on September 3 2013. Blythe Daphne is a desperate mother, looking for a miracle to cure her ailing daughter. She has tried everything in conventional medicine, but her daughter is running out of time. Lucas Kenyon is a werewolf with no connection to others like him. He fled his father, a cruel cult leader, as a teenager and has vowed never to return. But in the moment Lucas saw Blythe on the television news agreeing to take her daughter to his father's compound for healing, he knew that she was in terrible danger because she was a shape shifter, like him. Lucas is willing to face down his father and risk everything to save Blythe and her young daughter from a man he knows is evil personified. A man who believes all shape shifters are demons straight from hell. But Lucas knows he must never reveal a secret from his past, not even to the one woman who could heal him.
The Lost Wolf's Destiny offers up every urban fantasy cliche. There is Lucas, the wounded, self punishing paranormal out to save the girl he just knows is his mate the instant he sees her. There is Blythe, the sometimes smart and strong, but mostly in need of said saving girl. And then there is the bad guy, a creepy cult leader with tons of money and influence that seems unstoppable, until the good guys win of course. There is even there mysterious pack organization that does what it does, and no one knows quite who to trust or what is going on. All in all, it felt rather like the author grabbed all the things she thought were expected and shoved them together with no concern to making the relationship between Blythe and Lucas grow and come together. Part of my issue here was with Blythe, who does not seem all that bright to me. She agrees to go to the compound, which she already feels is unsafe but brings her ailing daughter anyway. Then she lets the kid out of her sight! As a mother myself, I would have run from the creepy man, on the news or not, and been out of Texas all together within minutes of meeting him, but then there would be no story. Lucas is almost an alpha male, but falls short of the mark, I much preferred some of his acquaintances, but perhaps that is just because they did not get much page time.

The Lost Wolf's Destiny was not a completely horrible book, but I have come to expect much more from my urban fantasy than this. I think that my real disappoint was because there is a lot of potential in this story, if done differently it could have been fantastic. Less important, but still slightly irksome to me, is that I found the cover to be a complete mismatch to the feel of the story.

I received The Lost Wolf's Destiny in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I’m still not sure exactly how I feel about this one. It’s another one of those books that just didn’t grab me. I loved the premise, the characters were likable and it was definitely action packed, yet some of the scenarios were just not believable.
The attraction between Lucas and Blythe was normal from a werewolf standpoint. That kind of pull just can’t be fought. The relationship itself isn’t what threw me in The Lost Wolf’s Destiny. I think what threw me in this one was Blythe’s daughter. I understand that there were greater powers at play and not all the decisions that Blythe made were under her control but when a child is involved I sit up and pay attention. There were just too many times, for me anyway, that Blythe’s daughter was left in unnecessary danger. That’s just my opinion though.
There also seemed to be a fine line between the good and the bad in The Lost Wolf’s Destiny. Even the good guys were doing things that were underhanded. I’m all for twists and turns, but when you really can’t trust anyone it gets a little frustrating.
I haven’t given up on the Nocturne books or Karen Widdon though. There have been a few hits and misses and there were things about this book that I did like. I just had a hard time relating to the characters, which happens sometimes. I really, really hate it when it does though. *sigh*

When Lucas heard Jacob Gideon's voice on the news he decided to see what was going on ever after 15 years of not having anything to do with him. What he saw was a sick little girl and her attractive mother, Blythe. Why would this woman agree to allow Jacob to heal her daughter when Lucas knew exactly what Jacob was capable of? Did Blythe know what dangers she was putting her daughter in? And how could Lucas face the past that had been haunting him to help save these two and would he be able to face his past?
Blythe tried everything within her power to find a way to cure her daughter, Hailey's deformed heart. After doing research on Jacob Gideon she thought he was worth a shot to see if he could cure Hailey since she had been on a waiting list for 4 years to see the Pack Healer. Finding herself locked in her room without her daughter, Blythe breaks out and runs into Lucas. Will Blythe be able to believe Lucas that he's not associated with Jacob and will Lucas ever be able to allow another person to fit into his life?

I really enjoy reviewing books. It is hard though when I read a book that I did enjoy but I found it for the most part to be totally average for the genre. There were a couple things that did stand out for me though.
First of all was Blythe's strength when it came to her daughter. She would do whatever was needed to rescue and protect her. This helped her to battle her wolf when a human's cooler head was needed. She made some decisions that had me scratching my head when it didn't involve Hailey but no one can fault her mothering instincts.
The one thing that really had me puzzled though was when Blythe was fitted with a leg holster which was supposed to be concealed by her jeans. I don't know of any women who wear their jeans loose enough to hide a gun unless they were planning on this before they got dressed for the day. This scene actually bothered me enough as I was puzzling it out to pull me way out of the story.
But what it really comes down to is the fact that I did enjoy the book though I doubt I would go out of my way to follow this series. Now mind you, your mileage may vary and if you enjoy paranormal romances, you might want to give it a try.

This was the first book by Ms. Whiddon that I've read and I was looking forward to discovering a new author, but I'm not sure this is the author for me. I was first drawn in by the beautiful cover then the blurb sounded promising. I just found myself rolling my eyes enough to make me dizzy. I just couldn't stand some of the decisions made by both MCs and though the idea of the book sounded great it just didn't deliver. There was a lot of repeating, too. I guess maybe if I had read some of the prior books of this series I would've had a better understanding of what being Pack meant or was suppose to mean, but I found them almost as bad as the church. I mean, they steal the sick child away from her mother after the stuff she went thru with the church? But it was for her own good. Really?! There were other things I disliked but I don't want to write anymore spoilers. This is just a series I'll pass on in the future, but I encourage you to make your own decision.

1 out of 5 stars. I read this novel through NetGalley... I'm sorry I really wanted to like this novel, especially since I could tell it has plenty of potential. However, I just couldn't stay with it. For one, it had a slow beginning--for me at least--and didn't seem to get much faster as the story progresses. Yet I will admit if I had read any of the other books in this series before--and liked them--that might have helped, but I hadn't. I read up until I was 60% through with the novel (per my kindle) but by the time I was at 70% I skimmed some scenes and then I couldn't stand reading it any more.
I recommend this novel only to those who like the series.

Loved this book. Whiddon outdid herself with this story.
Blythe Daphne has gotten herself mixed up with a religious fanatic out to experiment and destroy shifters. Her daughter is dying from a heart defect when Blythe agrees to got to Sanctuary for Jacob Gideon to heal. They give a press conference where Lucas Kenyon sees Blythe and her daughter, Hailey.
Lucas, Jacob Gideon's son, realizes his dad is up to his old tricks again. He knows that he must protect Blythe and Hailey so he travels from Seattle to his father's compound--Sanctuary.
Lucas rescues Blythe and then realizes he has found his one and only mate.
This story was beautifully written and I would definitely recommend it.

What can I say about this book. It's a lot of hurry up and wait, I'll tell you later, we'll bring her to see you later, over and over and over again. A lot of the pages could have been whittled down if the author would have removed this repetition. I just read a really good shifter/hybrid book that I gave 5 stars. This one wasn't I'm sorry to say. So, if this book isn't finished, I'd recommend the author remove the repetition, narrow the story down to the nitty-gritty and have the romance start a lot earlier.

Iniziamo dalla cosa che ho apprezzato di più e mi ha spinto a leggere questo libro: la copertina! Qualcuno dia un premio a questo disegnatore! E' misteriosa e intrigante al punto giusto, sensuale ed elegante, e diciamocelo, attira l'occhio.
La trama è carina e mette un po' d'ansia, questa bambina continua a sparire all'improvviso! E magari la successione di eventi: "OMG mia figlia è stata rapita di nuovo! Let's have sex." non è proprio il massimo della vita...

I found myself enjoying this book. Even though its part of a series it can easily be read as a stand-alone. I seen mixed reviews on this so I wasnt sure about this when I started reading it. But found myself very much into the story and wanted to know how things would end up. One thing I suspected I was right about but was glad of it. Will for sure track down more in this series.

A great story about a guy confronting his past and saving his future. A was a good quick read. I enjoyed the complexity of the characters. If u like a good paranormal story with some romance. This story is for you.

Two and a half stars. Typical Harlequin paranormal romance, this one with a warped religious zealot experimenting on shifter children to try and remove the "demon" inside them. One of the children is the heroine's daughter.
