Killer Assignment is a love inspired suspense by Maggie K. Black. It is book one in a series. It is full of excitement and adventure along with some quiet romance. It is set in Canada. Katie Todd has set out on an assignment she sees as fluff; but since she wants to keep her job, she continues to write the assignments she is sent on. Her boss, Ethan, is turning Impact News into a tabloid and she doesn’t like that. He has only three months left to bring the paper’s bottom line back into the black or he will lose his job. Katie is determined to be around to take over his job as Editor. Her assignment to attend a gala at Jonah Shields’ home seems frivolous to her. She would rather be investigating Jonah’s company to see what they are really up to. When the train she is on has to permanently stop due to an avalanche, she finds herself alone on at the station waiting for a taxi to arrive. A young man dressed in a hoodie is watching her as she waits. She feels he is up to no good and decides to walk down into town to find someplace to wait. As she steps off the platform, a van drives up and screeches to a halt. The driver asks for her by name. There are no signs or anything on the van and she hesitates. As the young boy walks up behind her, she throws her suitcase at him and runs. She had seen enough into the van to see she was being kidnapped. As the young man catches her, another man appears and comes to her rescue. The man is Mark Armor. Mark Armor is an engineer who takes equipment used by places who have had disasters and redesigns them to work better in an emergency. He runs TRUST, a charity designed to help in emergencies. Unfortunately, he has about three months before the charity runs out of money. He decides to visit his estranged father and sell some land his grandmother had given him. That is if his father will buy it. Mark has no idea what his father, Jonah Shields, will do when he faces him. Mark had left home with nothing and had changed his name to his grandmother’s maiden name. He wanted nothing to do with Jonah Shields and his company. However, he is drawn into danger when he helps Katie. When he finds out where she is going, he knows she will be angry when she finds out who he is; but he just can’t bring himself to tell her. Meanwhile, he has to help her figure out why she was being kidnapped.
I liked this one a lot. It certainly kept me on the edge of my seat!
From the cover: Journalist Katie Todd wanted her name as a byline on the front page, not in the obituaries. When an assignment goes very wrong she finds herself pursued by ruthless kidnappers. Her only hope is the enigmatic and handsome Mark Armor. All clues point to him being the enemy of her enemy, but is her a friend--or something much more dangerous? I was not impressed with this romance novel. The fact that Katie, supposedly a top investigative reporter, didn't put together who was behind her kidnapping attempts felt really far-fetched because the foreshadowing was so heavy-handed. Mark's convenient connection to the family Katie was supposed to write a story on, along with Mark and Katie's instant interest in each other, stretched the bounds of believability.
A little cheesy in parts. I knew who the person of interest was about 1/2 way through the book, but not the whole motive behind it. Overall a pretty good book.
Love Inspired Suspense. Reporter Katie is off on an assignment for the "paper" she is working for. Her train has to stop early as there are problems on the track ahead, she is followed from the start of her trip. Attempted kidnapping is halted when Mark Armor helps her out. Who wants to kidnap Katie? The mystery continues to almost the end when I was pretty sure I had things figured out. I had to sit up late to finish the book.
Katie Todd was almost abducted by a couple of strange men as she was getting off of a train. Luckily Katie got away everyone tells her that it is somewhat normal considering that they live in a small town where a lot of police are lacking. Katie is very quick to judge people being rather she can trust them or not. Her and a man named Mark work together in order to save others. This book lost a lot of my attention not even half way through.
I normally find these enjoyable and just a fun read. But this one, in my opinion, is dumb. Katie Todd, almost kidnapped, but saved from Mark. But the kidnappers keep chasing her and the same thing happens over and over again. They almost shoot Katie, Mark rescues her and they flee yet again. I found the whole thing rather repetitive. It would've been better if something different actually happened...
Journalist Katie Todd is at the risk of being kidnapped. Mark Armor, a humanitarian engineer with a secret past, comes to her rescue. They embark on a journey to find faith and the right path in life.
I enjoyed reading about non-traditional profession for the hero and many adventures and dangers throughout the book.
Maybe a little less, but a good solid story, one with a strong female protagonist, and, I think for the first time, more problems from the present than from the past as impediments.
