Sterling - ★★★✩✩
If it weren't for the way this author writes, which I enjoyed a ton, I think I would have quit reading this story almost from the start. Zoë drove me nuts. I couldn't find ONE thing about her to like. And considering this entire book is told from her perspective, this story really tried my patience. I kept forgetting she was 29 years old because with every new man introduced, she acted like a horny, needy, didn't-know-what-to-do-with-herself teenager. It's like she had to sample every man. I was kind of glad that she and Justus had no sexual connection, although she was still attracted to him. She was just a bit too fickle for my liking. When the heck was she going to start acting like an adult?

So Zoë died. Killed by a mage. But not really dead because he gave her power and now she's Silver. Justus is her guardian, teaching her the ways of the mage. And she questioned, disrespected him, and doubted him at every turn, with absolutely no provocation. She's 29 though. Old enough to have sense. Old enough to know better. I had NO PATIENCE for this chick. I'm completely absorbed in this story for everyone else BESIDES Zoë. I'm loving Simon, Justus, the mageri council members... even Samil was worthy of attention. Adam, poor guy, was the sap willing to do just about anything for her, but I don't know him. I'm hoping more of his character will be revealed in the books to come so I can tell you whether I like him or not. For now, I feel nada.

I'm off to read the next book so I can discover some kind of affection for this character and to fall deeper in love with the others.

Twist - ★★★★✩
I think it's clear by now that my opinion of Silver isn't very nice. I'm still baffled how a fully grown woman can act so irresponsibly and immaturely. She drives me nuts whenever she disregards those who are more experienced and more knowledgeable about the new world she finds herself in. She constantly puts herself in danger and the only reason she's still alive is because someone always comes along to rescue her. But does she stop to think or learn her lesson? Nope. She barely even gives them a 'thank you'. She's disrespectful and comes across more as a petulant child than an adult. I'd leave her to learn things the hard way.

So I really liked Logan. I mean, I really, really, really liked him. His introduction wasn't the greatest, as he was the bad guy, but he's quickly proven his worth. No one can mistake that he's an honorable man and getting to know a bit of his back story only endeared him to me more. I could love this guy. I'm so close to falling for him. He's 6'5" of pure hotness and I would love to serve myself up to him on a platter. His growls and his purrs and his alphaness and his respect of women... He's most hard to resist.

The search/hunt for Nero continues. I want to know his motivations and his intentions. I also wonder if there will be stories for Logan's brothers, Leo and Levi, and for Adam. Oh and Knox and Sunny. There's just so many characters I'm curious about (not Silver) that I know I'll be reading this series to its conclusion.

Impulse - ★★★✩✩
Okay, I absolutely hate the way Silver treats Logan. HATE IT!!

She treats him like she's a Victorian lady protecting her virtue. Didn't she basically throw herself at Adam and then Simon? Is this chick for real? Why would the author do this? I get that Chitahs have their own traditions and values, but keeping him at arms length is making this romance incredibly tedious. Even when his brothers step to her about how her behavior and her push-and-pull is affecting him, she continues her stupid ish. She's not a virgin. She's not inexperienced. So why the act?

"Logan, I can't just get naked in front of a man unless... unless it's for the right reasons."

She makes it worse with,

"Do you think that I can parade myself in front of a man so easily - one I haven't been intimate with?"

And every time she went ahead with 'Mr. Cross' to distance herself...

I swear, if it wasn't for everything else happening in this story, I would quit while I'm ahead. Nero has turned up the heat on the Mageri, waging a war that no one is really prepared for. I'm still unaware about a lot of things and I wish I could see the bigger picture. Maybe I'd be able to predict things better or feel more invested if the heroine didn't make me want to hurl at every turn. Ever meet a character that makes you sick to your stomach?

I think it's a real testament to this author's writing that I can detest her main character so strongly while enjoying this story. I only wish that she could have created a more appealing heroine. Or maybe aged her down. If Silver was 16 and not 29, it wouldn't be such a problem. All of her radical attempts to be treated as an equal or to assert her independence only make her appear more childish. Her actions in relation to Logan are juvenile, ignorant, irresponsible, irreverent, disrespectful, and straight up cruel.

Like I said, the story itself is entertaining enough. Take away the intense hatred for the heroine and you could say I love this series. So yeah, I'll be reading the next two books to discover how this story ends.

UTTER LOVE FOR THIS SERIES.
Writers often give advice to aspiring authors to write the book they always wanted to read but haven't found yet. For me, this series is it and I well wish I could write because everything in the Mageri series is everything I want to read.

I was intrigued in book one. I enjoyed the story, loved the humour and cared for the characters, but book 2 is where I got to the point of staying up all night to finish reading. I could not put it down. And holly hellfire, LOGAN CROSS. He doesn't appear until book two, but once he hits the page I swooned every time he appeared. He is how all men should be dammit.
I laughed out loud so many times and that's rare for me. The action is fast paced and by God I loved every second of it.

if you are a fan of urban fantasy romance and you haven't read this series you should. I'm going to now check that my husband is still alive because I have ignored him for three days whilst I read this series.

An Exciting Series

I found that after I got about a quarter of the way through the first book, I started enjoying this series. I did read some of the one star reviews before I purchased, and find some of their thoughts unfounded.

I did find Silver to be somewhat finicky and frustrating at times, especially since she was made to act like a teenager on occasion, rather than a late twenty something. She did have some redeeming qualities, and her witty retorts were well done. As for Logan, not my favorite character, and just way over-protective to almost smothering in his affections. I find Simon just interesting, as well as Movie and Christian. Sunny is just as her name suggests.

There is a common plot through the first three books, and I'm sure it will transfer to the next. Each book has its own plot and, each time you get the resolution for that story line at the end of the book.

There is plenty of action, very limited sex scenes (which are tastefully done), and plenty of good humor. There is also limited explicit language, and the stories flow well. I really like this world have been immersed into, and find myself thinking about the characters when I am not reading.

Overall, I have enjoyed reading the Mageri series so far, and will continue. If you enjoy all manner of supernatural/paranormal characters in one book, then I recommend this series. Just ensure the first part of the book until she meets Justus.

There are so many great things that I could write about the Mageri series that it would take more than an essay. First of all the characters I will be leaving out a ton I love but this review would end of way to long if I did that and everyone needs surprises in life. I'll leave some for the reader.

The lead female, Zoe a/k/a Silver is such a headstrong and funny character it makes the story. Her best friend Sunny is just a doll and I'm really happy she was kept in the story unlike other series where you meet someone and then they are never heard from again. The way Silver clashes with the man who becomes her Ghuardian after she became a mage, who in the beginning started out as an arrogant/better than human's character, was very well written. As the character development of Justus grew I came to know and love the arrogant softie that he is. Backing it up a bit before Justus, Adam who Silver first runs into is the guy I would live to end up with but then Simon shows up and blows me away with his attitude, dimple and gaming/leather loving ways.

Silver falls in love with a Chitah named Logan. The story of their hardships and triumphs gives hope to readers that love concurs all. I won't give away the other romances that occur in the series but they are also very well written that makes a reader cry and cheer for all of them. Although, (tidbit of a SPOILER) I cried again while re-reading when "he who will not be named" was killed and smiled knowing the love of his life carried life in her to help her cope with the loss.

There are many more characters but I need to make this somewhat short and it's getting way to long. I have to mention Novis. He is the ultimate character that you always want on your side and I'd love to hear more of his story. And finally my last to mention would be Levi. Yes Levi, I want him to be my new bestie. Love him and his attitude.

The world of Mageri world that has been created if filled with heroes, villains, and other characters that make you love, love to hate and laugh. It's also a series that makes a reader want to re-read it over and over. I have never thought about doing a fan fic before but this series is worthy of one but I'll leave the world of the Mageri to its lovely author.

Dannika, I bow to your brilliance. You are an inspiration to first time authors. I can only think of a select few series of books that I have re-read through the years. The Mageri series is definitely a series I can fall back, get comfy with a nice warm blanket, cup of hot chocolate, piece of cheesecake and read again.

I picked up the 3 book box set on sale, definitely a great set & I'm hooked on this series.

Book 1-I enjoyed this book, but it was a bit slow paced, with a lot of questions left unanswered, almost too many. I liked the characters for the most part, especially Adam. He really is a great character in this book. I did get irritated with Zoe occasionally, I felt she too easily took advantage of Adam's kindheartedness. The book did suck me in & make me want to continue with the series.

Book 2-Wow, this book sucked me in & wouldn't let me go until I finished it! Marathon reading! I liked that Silver/Zoe is evolving into a stronger character & less wishy-washy in her thought processes. I also loved the new love interest, Logan Cross. Wow, just holy cow, he's a great character. I would re-read this book just for Logan! LOL I wasn't anticipating liking this series as well as I did!

Book 3-I still love Logan Cross for the Hero! He's the best character in the 3 books so far IMO. I also loved Christian, what a unique character that I look forward to reading more about. Oh dang, I hate what happened to Adam, I liked him enough to not want anything bad to happen! So much drama & suspense & intrigue, kept me glued to the iPad. This is so far the best of the 3 books I've read in the series so far. I'm anxious to continue on with the series.

The Mageri Series Box Set (Books 1-3)

Wow and Wow again!! What an amazing story line. Fantastic characters, awesome writing, unbelievable imagination, delightful humor, gripping sadness, love, betrayal, honor, protection and fantasy.

Zoe Merrick, an ordinary human, or so she thought. Her life shattered and changed forever, by an unknown assailant, at the time. Torn away from everything she knew and thrust into a new existence beyond any life she could possibly imagine. She was dead, but now alive, but no longer human.

The stories tell of her new life, the new people in her now immortal life and how these new “people” treat her with either kindness, love, hatred, violence, distrust and loathing.

She struggles to accept what has happened, trains and learns under the watchful eye of her Ghuardian, but sadly she is never safe no matter how many safeguards are put in place.

Can’t wait to read the next books in the collection.

Very different world

Raven was chased, killed and reborn all the same night. She was turned into an immortal called a mage. Her face, body and even voice changed. She is taken in by Adam... A man with secrets. She is chased by another who wants to sell her and yet another who wants to steal her light...because she is a unique.
She is given a man who is responsible for training her and keeping her safe. He is full of deep pain and does not like being touched.
Then she is kidnapped by another who falls helplessly in love with her. She goes through many things as she comes into her powers yet she takes risks to learn why she was created and who she loves. This story is full of characters that make you laugh and cry and feel as if they are real. Can't wait to read the next one.

Thrilling & Unique

I absolutely love this series. The world the author has created is unique in itself. The narrative is well written with strong believable characters who will grip your imagination and not let go. If I could give this series 10 stars I would. I found myself entranced and enthralled and couldn't put it down. It evoked many emotions. It was full of action, intrigue, violence, laughter and tenderness. Congratulations to the author on a wonderful series. If you want to read a book that grips you until the very end I highly recommend this series you won't be disappointed. Now, I'm going go buy the next book because I need to know what happens next.

Dark mystery

It tool me a while to get into the series, but as I enjoyed the Crossbreed series , I decided to persevere the second time around. The writing is good, and occasionally there is imagery that is outstanding. But the use of adverbs is quite often idiosyncratic. The world building is great, the characters complex, and by the end of the third book, I was very engaged. I know it's a romance, but the make out sessions the pepper the book are gilding the lily. I did enjoy the banter. It is very clever.

So amazing

I just love Dannika's works so very much. While I started with the Seven series then went to her Crossbreed series, it was nice to finally read her Mageri series. Because of this, I can see just how "young" her writing is here and how tremendously she has grown as an author. Even still her works are thoughtful and emotionally charged. The depth and growth of her characters is masterful and I look forward to finishing the series. I highly recommend this author and series to anyone who enjoys supernatural creatures, urban fantasy, and strong, sarcastic women.

Hooked

I don't usually go into detail about characters or plots as I'd hate to give away any spoilers..
That said, get this book. Start this series. I actually read thedust Crossbreed novel. [Loved that too] I wanted to experience it in chronological order, though it's not a requirement. Just my reading style. I can't wait to devour the whole world of these characters.
The stories, characters, plots are all well written. The further you read the mood intense it gets and the more invested you become. So invest in this and you'll be rewarded.

Sterling - 3 stars

I'm not sure what to make of this series opener. It seemed a lot was going on but at the same time it wasn't. I felt like I had no idea what was happening in this half of the time. But I kept reading hoping it would make more sense. Huh... I'll start book 2 and see what I think

I started book 2 and wasn't really feeling it. I didn't understand where the book was going. Sunny hadn't been mentioned since the first couple of chapters of the first book and suddenly she wanted to reconnect with her? Hmm. Yeah. I'm not going to continue.

Satisfying mini-series for your brain

Each book tackles a problem while letting you know it is part of a larger problem. There is a pleasing satisfaction in the resoulution that is building towards the end. The books are well connected and unlike other series there isn't a lot of back pedaling to explain. The explanations come as the story develops in each book after the initial brief synopsis.

I loved the boxed set and am now ready to finish the next ones. I am totally captivated by this universe! I've already read cross-border and Seven is next on my list. The characters are strong and unique and the stories captivating. I haven't been this caught up in a fantasy universe since Cassandra Clare. Great read. An emotional roller coaster.
