Some people die long before their heart stops beating.
Rainey Paxton is convinced there is a link between the disappearances of several women and her friend Winnie. Her obsession leads her back to the mysterious house where she said goodbye to Winnie years prior. Rainey is certain there is something sinister about the man who took her friend to Florida.
Meanwhile, seventeen-year-old Dakota Jagger is on her own looking for shelter. While roaming the city streets, Dakota meets a charming and persuasive man who offers to help her. This is the same man who stalks women and keeps them as his own.
Dakota does not know the man she trusts is a serial killer until she wakes up in a cold, dark place with no recollection of how she got there.
The only hope for any survivors is if Rainey Paxton has enough fire in her belly to feed her craving to find Winnie.

PAIGE'S STANDALONE NOVELS IN ORDER OF PUBLICATION:
No spoilers. 2 stars. I'm not going into the so-called plot on this one. Let's just say that this novel wasn't what I expected when I picked it up.
In her forward, this author tells the reader about her real-life abuse, but what I find loathsome is that she chose to use her experiences to write a story filled with such depravity and violence toward women.
I saw nothing worth spending a week with this excessively loooooong story. If this was a true crime story, maybe it would be worth wasting some time with, but being that it is fiction, who would want to wade through all the filth and violence? It was like watching a bad slasher movie.
Just so you guys out there don't feel left out, there is a male victim in the story who is repeatedly raped over a period of years.
Anyway, if you're into degrading depravity against women, dive in. It was just not my cuppa, and now I'm on my way to scrub out my mind.
I recently won this book through Goodreads. I have read this author before so was interested in this book. The book starts off good with Dakota being kidnapped and then reverts back to her when she was young and how her life progressed to where the book started.
While it was interesting it was very graphic, with girls who were kidnapped and held in the basement by a maniac. But I needed to find out how it ended and who rescued the girls. But I must inform you that the end leaves you looking for more because there is a #4 coming out. So I will have to buy that one to see what the next venture looks like.
Enjoyed the first 2 books more, this one was a good audio book for filler when I’m doing stuff around the house or on a walk. One book left to read in the series.
As always these stories have lots of triggers. They are raw and emotional but keep you enthralled and needing to know what is going to happen next. This is book three and is mainly Dakotas story but ties into the previous books with the search for Raineys friend Winnie.
I will say it again Ms. Dearth does a fine job of showing us the depravity that exists in this world. I know that this kind of reading material is not for everyone and I feel like a voyeur when I read her books but this is real life. Be forewarned there is a cliff hanger which I am not fond of ever (maybe there will be a giveaway for book #4). I am in awe how the mc of her books can always believe there is good in the people around her. Dakota (the mc) is born into a world of poverty and abuse that no child should live through. The adults responsible for her should not be allowed to be anywhere near a child. Enter a kindhearted soul who shows her a glimpse of what it should be to be a loved child. Tragedy strikes and she enter an unspeakable world of a monster. Are there really people like that in the world? I am afraid there are. There is a beautiful twist at the end.
I want to thank the author and the publishers for providing me with a free copy of this book through (#GoodReadsGiveaway). All opinions are my own and freely given.
If you have kindle unlimited, READ THIS SERIES! It’s sad, heartbreaking, empowering, and just all consuming. If you’re into more of a thriller, suspense, and what the heck book, this series is just WOW! I don’t really throw books on here often. But my goodness! It was so hard to put down!
There is trigger warnings *SA *drug use *loss
But page turner, nail bitter, and just ugh so good! Your entire heart and soul goes out to this entire series!
I’m now starting the authors other series from just the first teaser chapter at the end of this one. 🫣
I honestly cannot get enough of this series! And the twists 😱 my jaw was on the floor. This series seems to get such mixed reviews, but I really am obsessed with it!
They aren’t lying when they say Paige Dearth writes real life horror stories! Her stories are bone chilling, tear jerking and thought provoking - no demons or haunted house needed!
Spoilers below - BEWARE!
Okay, I’m disappointed with the ending of this book. I was really looking forward to Henry getting what he deserves but the dude goes MIA in the end?! How and WTF!! Where did his truck go? They didn’t mention that. Was there another secret passage in the sub basement? If there was, that should have been shown in the map!
The book was great, the story was awesome and as usual with Ms. Dearth’s books, I couldn’t put it down but oh man, that ending really has me feeling some type of way. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that Winnie, Dakota and Josie are safe. I guess I’ll just have to start on book 4!
You might pass them when you're shopping, working, walking or going to school. I didn't say he because monsters are also female, as other books written by Paige Dearth have attested. In this book, Dakota is being raised by a not so loving mother. Her mother, Lydia is a hooker who makes money the only way she knows how. Bullied at a young age in school, by monsters posing as bigger boys, Dakota did not have an easy life in school or at home. Her father wasn't in their lives much. While her mother was out, if her father would come home, he was usually drunk or wasted. Dakota prayed that he would pass out when he came through the door. She was scared to death of him because he was another monster. He was molesting his own daughter. She met a boy who was belittling a little girl in the stairwell The boy was three years older than Dakota at 15 to her 12. The boy Derek explained that he gets frustrated because their mom makes him take his five year old sister, Keisha with him wherever he goes. The three strike up a friendship based on need. Derek is older and black but he figures out what's going on with her dad since her mother hasn't come back yet. Derek takes Dakota to meet his mother. These are kids growing up in the projects, dirt poor and not likely to involve the police. As bad as life was, no one wanted to be taken in by social services. Derek knew what the lack of family support meant. His mom was ostracized by her parents and siblings when she told them her brother, the children's uncle, molested Keisha when she was three. Derek invited her to live with them but Taylor said she could hardly take care of the three of them so she couldn't take Dakota in too. She took the tormented girl to meet Josie Hibbert, a former teacher and Keisha's grandmother. Granny, as she insisted to be called, lived across town and not related, granny home schooled Dakota, with help from her friends, other retired teachers. Derek and Keisha came to visit when Taylor had the money for gas. When the three visited, Dakota always ask but Derek said he had never seen Lydia ever again. The friendship with Derek and Keisha came to an abrupt ending when on a trip when Dakota was sixteen, Taylor announced she had met a man and he was going to be stationed in California, so the family was moving. Both granny and Dakota had goals for her to graduate from high school and she would apply for college. Granny and her "granddaughter" were still scared that if social services even though Dakota was now seventeen. One day while Dakota had been out, granny had fallen or passed out and hit her head on the bathroom sink. She was dead by the time Dakota found her. The police wanted to talk to her about granny's death, so Dakota ran. She lived on the streets of Philadelphia when she met Henry, who would talk unsuspecting young girls into his truck. The drink he offered was spiked and when Dakota woke up, she was in a nightmare where she wouldn't wake up for three years. Onward and upward readers. Follow into Book 4 of the Rainey Paxton books. Find out what role Rainey plays in all of these stories.
I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. I loved this book. One review I read said it was a little graphic. I didn't find it graphic, I found it truthful. It's just not sugar coated like some of the sheltered lives of some people are used to. It follows Dakota through her childhood to see where her life led her to get to the point of getting kidnapped. The first half of the book is a little boring compared to the second half of the book, but it does also move along quickly. It is necessary to reveal the movement and story line of the second half of the book. The villian of this book, is demented, a psychopath, evil, and does horrible things to the people he kidnaps. What he does to them is really cruel. Having PTSD from an abusive relationship the book almost started my triggers back up again to freak out, but it didn't I handled it well I thought. There are a couple of huge twists to this book that I didn't even see coming. It was like whoa what the hell moments. It hits on the reality of things that does happen in real life that nobody wants to talk about. It was fantastically written. One of the very best suspense novels out there. It is a must read. It does leave a cliffhanger at the end that does continue on in the book. Number 4 of the series. Read it, read it all, getting to the end is well worth it. Kudos to the storytelling and insight of this author. 👏
This series is so good! Paige Dearth makes you feel the pain, fear and love, hatred of each character in her books and book #3 did not disappoint. This book starts out with a young name Dakota that is 12 years old. She was being abused and sexually assaulted by her father. She tells her mom about it and the next day her mom goes missing. Dakota fearing her dad, she reached out to one of her neighbors who helped find her a new place to live.
Dekota was taken in my a sweet older lady named Josie that she called Grandma. Josie was a retired school teacher that home schooled Dakota. She taught Dakota many life lessons and kept her safe for 4 years until Grandma died. This left Dakota on the streets to learn how to live on her own. Dakota found herself alone and on the streets until a man stopped to help her, promising her a nice dinner out of the rain. This was the worst decision that she ever made. He drugged her and put her into an underground prison with several others. This became her nightmare. Will she and the others survive this kidnapper? You will have to read to find out!
3rd Installment of the Rainey Paxton Series ⭐⭐⭐⭐. This is the story of what happened to Winnie, in the previous book Winnie moves to Florida with her boyfriend and after she moves Rainey didn't hear from her at all so we were all wondering what actually happened to Winnie, well it is answered in this book.
I gave this book 4 stars because it was very slow to begin with and I felt with Dakota's back story is really drawn out and a lot of the story isn't really relevant. Also the Rainey sections of the book were very short and it felt like they were just placed randomly.
Girls Missing is about a serial killer called Henry who rapes, murders and tortures young women. He keeps them in a basement under his house across a number of years. Henry either targets prostitutes or women with no family. This is where we find out that this is what happened to Winnie and she's been trapped below the house for the last few years. We meet Dakota and quite a lot of the book is learning about her life and how she got to the point of being taken by Henry. Throughout the book there are parts that are present day with Dakota and the others trapped below Henry's house and then Rainey's present day where she is focussed on finding Winnnie.

The 3rd book in the series by Paige Dearth, Girls Missing, goes way beyond being a thriller. It really is a horror movie with words! I don't think that anyone with a weak stomach should read this book, as it reveals a lot of people being tortured by one despicable, disgusting, sick individual. There were times when I thought I might not get through it, but I was able to maintain hope for all who were kept hostage, and forced to do sick things against their will. It's very graphic in description of these acts, and sick in a way that I never dreamed possible. I couldn't stop reading it, and now the author has a new release called Girls Found, which I hope will restore some normality to all of these characters. If you are squeamish, brace yourself, because it's not an easy one to get through, but there are some fabulous heroines in the end as well. Paige Dearth does too good of a job in writing these stories, which I love to hate!
Another solid installation in the Rainey Paxton series despite it...not being about Rainey at all...?
As always, you're engrossed from the very first page. If you can believe it, this one was even darker than the previous two--almost too much for me to read, and that's saying a lot. I didn't like this one quite as much as the last two. The new character Dakota felt a bit random and disconnected, seeing as this is the 3rd book in the series. Rainey is honestly barely in it, and her and Dakota's "connection" is a bit weak. The pacing of the plot felt a little off compared to the other two, but it still held my interest and had me flying through to see what happens next.
If you read the first two in this series, I'd say it's not totally necessary to continue with this one... It sorta just feels like a whole new series with a tie in to Dearth's previous work.
The novel "Girl's Missing" begins with the kidnapping of a young girl named Dakota. The story delves into Dakota's past, growing up with a mother who is a prostitute and an abusive father, and how these experiences contributed to Dakota's abduction. While the majority of the plot focuses on Dakota, it also involves other characters such as Rainey, Winnie, and Tootsie. The author adeptly shifts between the past and present without confusing the reader, intertwining the individual characters' experiences to craft a suspenseful and believable ending. As with all of Paige Dearth's novels, it contains many triggers, including sexual abuse, extreme violence, and gory murder scenes. Alongside the explicitly raw nature of the writing, there is also an uplifting story of friendships, love, resilience, and survival.
This book was all over the place, which is why I gave it 2 stars. It starts off slow. There are a couple of stories that we’re introduce to, Rainey’s & Dakota’s. It was hard to follow Rainey’s story. And what happened to Pistol and why the gangs? One of my pet peeves is when characters have infantilism. Dakota the main character is supposed to be a teen but at times acts like a toddler. In the book it says something like, she crawls on the lap of her “granny” & nuzzles her neck?! This isn’t her granny. She only met this lady months prior. Another thing that bothered me was the dialogue & how abused characters interact with each other. The last part was very unexpected it is very graphic and disturbing. However, it was well written horror. I won this book through Goodreads giveaway.

Oooof, this was another tough read from the Rainey Paxton series but on a whole other level ⚠️ If I'd had the time, I probably would have read this straight through because I had to know what was going to happen next. This story didn't really have a ton of Rainey in it, but she did play a key role in the conclusion of Dakota's story- whose own life trajectory was absolutely heartbreaking. I can't even begin to imagine how I would rebuild my life after enduring what they went through, trapped in a dark cave... This ends on a bit of a cliffhanger so you'll definitely want to read the final book.
Reading this book truly draws you in more and more as you turn each page. In each new chapter, you are feeling like you're feeling almost how much the character will be able to discover a way to go on. Especially about the character of Rainey Paxton. She shows what you can do to turn your life around.
Rainey is a great person who knows how to do what she can to help her friends and to help those in need of help too.
I can not tell people in my family and friends I know about this book and how incredible the Author Paige Dearth is!
I have absolutely loved Rainey since the day I met her last year!
These books are dark, twisted and will mess with all your emotions but they are beautiful and important as they are meant to raise awareness to some of the many horrible things going on in the world.
The amount of times my jaw dropped in this one was insane. Paige really pulled some good twists on me. I will rarely sacrifice sleep for a book but I could not go to bed last night until I knew how it ended.
I absolutely can not wait for book 4!!!!!! July 28 is so far away!
So it's been couple of yrs since I read 1st 2 books & by chance just saw books 3&4. As these books stay with you it was easy to get drawn straight back in. The characters all are brought to life each suffering there tragic heartbreaking circumstances since been taken by Henry the total physcopath. Kept in dungeons deep below the house barely clothed or bathed taking severe abuse both physically & sexually it was horrendous. These are not easy books to read but to find them get out keeps you going in hope. Hard to imagine that actually this kind of thing does actually happen.
Book 3 of 4 of the Rainey Paxton series. Brutal. Graphic. Sad. Violent. This was the hardest one to read yet. I hate that I’m invested in the characters because I wanted to quit it so much. Book 1 and 2 felt more real, like what can/could happen. This book was straight out of a horror film about a serial killer. I’m not saying it can’t happen but it definitely took things to a very graphic and disturbing level. The book is written great and passionate but it’s very dark. I’m torn between a 3 star and 4 star because it’s written well but so dark and violent.
This is the 3rd book in the Rainey Paxton series and honestly, I just can’t get enough. I flew through it because I could not put it down. Every single chapter had me on edge, needing to know what was going to happen next.
Paige Dearth is such an amazing author — the way she hooks you in is unreal. The story is dark and twisted, but in the best way, and it always leaves me wanting more.
I’m jumping right into the final book now because I have to see how it all plays out. Definitely a five-star read!
Excellent for this kind of read... It's not touchy feely at all
This tells the story of a group of girls who are picked up in one way or another by a serial killer, he raped and tortured them before killing them off. Mental abuse, sexual abuse and physical abuse. It takes a strong stomach to read every word, I found myself skipping through some of the gruesome to save my own sanity. But it's a great story and I'm anxious to see how they wrap it up
Dakota doesn't live a life of privilege. Growing up with an abusive father and a street walker for a mom isn't a fairytale, so when things go from bad to extremely bad she digs deep to find the courage to persevere.
Some things were hard to read because they were truly horrific but I had hope that Dakota would survive her ordeal. Girls Missing made me think and feel so much that I am sure it will stick with me long past reading it.
I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway. It's well-written and realistic but the subject matter is very hard. It felt real enough that it hurt to read. This is an important subject that doesn't get enough attention but know that this book will make your heart hurt at what horrors this world visits upon the innocent and those with no available protection. I would not be able to stomach reading this again.
Really good until the end. It ended abruptly because they want you to buy the next book. Will I read the next one? Maybe. Right now my library doesn’t have any books from this author! There was also a book prior to this which I didn’t know when I started reading it. I think it can be a stand alone book as I didn’t feel like I was actually missing any information, I just wished it all wrapped up nicely in the end!
I was able to read this book as a Goodreads giveaway winner.
