An exhausted zebra is ready for bed but the other animals at the zoo still want to play. Help the Zebra say “Shh” to the lions, elephants and other noisy animals at the zoo. A calming bedtime book for little monkeys everywhere.
M.R. Nelson is manager of people and projects in the biotechnology industry, specializing in the intersection of science and information technology. After more than ten years as a hiring manager at various companies, she recently became an independent consultant. You can find her online at BeyondManaging.com, where she writes about management and productivity.
She is also the mother of two daughters, and an insistent child asking for stories when reading someone else’s stories was not possible led her to discover a love for inventing stories for children. She eventually decided to start writing these stories down, and is delighted to see them out in the world, entertaining other children.
A funny little tale about all the animals at the Zoo and, not wanting to go to bed at the night time. Lovely pictures --- would be good introduction to the Zoo for children or after they had been as reminders of what they had enjoyed!
Not quite a classic, but still a fun book to read with the kiddos! I read this as part of my last ditch effort on my 2021 Reading Challenge, "a book that starts with Q, X, or Z."
It was a good story with a repetitive line that my granddaughter could repeat each page. She got tired of repeating it, but it kept her focused on each page.
This adorable picture book is so cute!!! My 2-year-old grandson asks for it, (on repeat!!!!) every time he comes over! What child hasn't experienced that feeling, being so tired and just wanting to drift off to sleep, when everyone else around him wants to play or have some kind of fun? That is what is happening for this zebra in 'The Zebra Said, "Shhh"!!!' "It's time to go to sleep!" wails poor Zebra to each of his friends in the zoo. Unfortunately, try saying that to the monkeys who just want to swing through the trees, "ooh! OOh! Ooh!" or the rhino who wants to STAMP STAMP STAMP while kicking up dust in her field. Each animal is portrayed engaging in its characteristic behavior, and using its own language we have come to accept as their individual forms of speech. "Ar! Ar!" say the seals; "Grrrr," says the polar bear, "Squawk!" declares the parrot. This unassuming little book is brimming with lessons for your favorite little ones, and what more can you ask for than learning that is fun? This picture book is a definite winner!
It's bedtime at the zoo in The Zebra Said Shhh by M.R. Nelson, but the only animal ready to get some shut eye is the zebra. Will all his shushing be enough to calm the other animals so he can get some sleep?
M.R. Nelson creates an adorable bedtime story using popular zoo animals and their animal sounds to capture the attention of young readers. Children will also find humor in the zebra's desire to sleep as the noisy animals keep him awake.
The peaceful animal scenes and calming colors help to set the sleepy time mood. Tamia Sheldon's talent as an illustrated shines through on each page.
I recommend picking up The Zebra Said Shhh which is sure to become a favorite at bedtime or anytime.
The zebra is stirring in its paddock. It's bedtime at the zoo, but none of the animals seem ready for bed. The authors presents nine animals that might live in the zoo and describes their habitat and the sounds they make. Bright illustrations accompany the rhyming text. After a while, the animals finally become tired; the author repeats the information once more.
Targeted for ages three the seven, I believe the book has the most appeal for preschoolers, who will enjoy imitating the schools and making the read an interactive experience after multiple readings. Bright illustrations illuminate the text.
If you're looking for a nice bedtime story, or story to quiet your students down, this will do the trick. It's bedtime and the zebra is the only animal at the zoo who wants to sleep. While he keeps shushing the other animals, they keep making noises until finally [spoiler alert] they all fall asleep. The illustrations are colorful, and look like cutouts on the Kindle, but I'm not totally sure of that.
It was bed time at the zoo and up in his paddock the Zebra was feeling very tired, but he could not go to sleep because of all the noise.
Little ones will delight as one by one the zoo animals are told, "Shhh, it's time to go to sleep." The repetition got a bit much for me but my 2 year old loves it! We read it practically every night.
This is a really sweet little book for younger readers with lovely illustrations.
Young children and toddlers will enjoy this story of a zebra who wants to sleep in a zoo that is too noisy. The zoo is a very vociferous place, even at night because of the monkeys, lions, parrots, turtles, seals, giraffes and more! This story does not offer a moral dilemma, but parents will enjoy a story that may help their children settle down to go to sleep. Beautiful paper-design illustrations by Tamia Sheldon.
I read this with my 6 year old son, and he adored it. He enjoyed playing guess what comes next. The illustrations are beautiful, the story is capturing for a young child, and its fun. You can predict the "shhh" part to read with your child and it becomes a game. Simple, fun, magical, and capturing are words I would use to describe the book. Greatly enjoyed!
Fun read with my 3yr old son. It displays very well on the Kindle Fire HD. I knocked off a star for the funny looking polar bear, which may have been harsh. All the other animals are drawn pretty well. It's a good bedtime read, which really is invaluable these days, so I give it a full five stars of my gratitude.
This is a fun bedtime story that children who love zoo animals will enjoy. The illustrations are bright and almost 3d in look. The story has repetitive lines which will help beginning readers. This book will be enjoyed by parents and children alike. One that is sure to become a favorite.
The Zebra Said Shhh Colorful children's story abou the life of a zebra. Some pages are difficult to read the words due to the background color. Lots of different animals do NOT want to go to sleep but the zebra tries to get them to listen to him. At the end it tells you where they all sleep, their habitat, 10 different animals. Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.
A charming book for a bedtime wind down. Toddlers will love hearing the sounds of each animal in the zoo as the zebra urges them to quiet down. The illustrations are playful and colorful. Recommended.
This book is about animals and the sounds they make. There's some repetition but it works well and my son gets a kick out of it. The illustrations are fun but soothing and the length is just right for a kid his age. (2 years old.)
Those words came straight out of my five year old's mouth after we read this book the first time. She and her three year old brother and two year old sister seemed enthralled the whole way through. A very nice night time book. Thank you!
It is a great introduction to zoo animals. It has enough repetition for the very young child to "read" themselves after a few bedtime readings. If you make the animal sounds, it will make it real entertaining.
