Lynn Hagen loves writing about the somewhat flawed, but lovable. She also loves a hero who can see past all the rough edges to find the shining diamond of a beautiful heart.
You can find her on any given day curled up with her laptop and a cup of hot java, letting the next set of characters tell their story.
3rd Reading 1-8-15 Ugh. Maverick pissed me off big time in this. I forgot how much. If I were Fire I would taken my chances with the bookies, but then again I hate people telling me what to do and what I can and can't do.
2nd read June 2014
First read 11-12-13 Could have learned more about Rio, but I liked them together.
I like to say that I am easily entertained and my reading of series like these proves it. Seriously, the entire Brac Pack and now Brac Village series are ridiculous but I can't seem to stop reading them. I was really disappointed in the last book in the series and hoped it wasn't an indication of things to come.
This one was better - I liked the mates - Rio & Fire. They were fun and there was much more of a chemistry between the two of them, unlike Kissing Reno. That one had zero chemistry.
Unfortunately there were some editing errors - a few glaring ones - like a character being a Mrs. then a Mr. then a Mrs. - yikes! I know LH is pumping out these books like there is no tomorrow but come on - I am willing to pay 5 bucks for it so at least spend a few hours proofing! Jeez.
Here is another rant - the whole Melonee Brac thing bugs me. Sorry but it has for a while. I liked Melonee in the original book Loco's Love and even in a few of the later ones where she was up to no good. But then the whole "adopted daughter" thing with the weird timeline that got thrown in made no sense. I had to laugh when she mated two men - that figured. I am not a menage fan and there have been very few books where a romance of three works (except to have hot sex scenes) and none of those books are ever published by Siren. Sorry if I sound bitchy it all just seems so gratuitous and forced along.
Thankfully the majority of this book was about Rio & Fire and they were enough to keep me buying #5 to see what comes next.
This volume is a little skippy. In that it skips from scene to scene and the sequence of emotions does not always make sense to me. Plus there’s little segue to anything. This is not a huge deal but it does distract somewhat.
As usual in these books, Fire’s turn from an uncaring, immoral jerk into a decent guy who likes small children happens blindingly fast. Eh, at least that means I do not have to hate him. Jerkish protagonists are always a downer, so it’s good to have escaped that here for the most part.
“Enough paper clips to feed a starving country.” Okay. That amused me. XD
The story wraps up easily enough and, as always, happiness ensues among much sex.
In closing, this was not bad. It just did not really stand out that much either. Pretty much par for the course for the series. Never know whether I should go with two or three stars for these…
I think this was an improvement compared to the past books in this series. The characters felt relatively more "real" and for once both characters were of normal size and not heavily muscled (the only weird body part was Fire's pointy ears). This is also the first time where the couple is not mated in the first 30% of the book, which is a relief! Fire's cluelessness with taking care of his class was priceless! Rio and Fire's way of dealing with most of their problems took a more human like approach like breaking and entering as opposed to using super strength and magic. It was fun reading about their antics in and out of the classroom. Although, I wish the book had been edited more thoroughly.
Though there was the lack of the overall progress in the main arc, I still liked this book. The emotional tidbit in the end was just icing on top. I'm glad to see the addition to the Brac family.
So much better than the other books in the series so far. complete improvement. Fire is a flawed fey to say the least but he compliments Rio's lonely lifestyle. Sex scenes were great! I'm happy to say I think we might be back on track Brac Fans! !
This was another compelling romance from the, Brac Village series. Fire is a fey who has a gambling addiction, so Maverick gives him a job as an art teacher for young children to keep him somewhat grounded. However, Fire doesn't know anything about teaching, or art, and he doesn't much like being around children ("the little helions"). Rio is a Panther shifter, and also a teacher, and soon they realize that they are mates. I really do appreciate it when both mates are Paranormal, because they understand the concept so much better and quicker, so there's no dragging out the story by having to explain the mating process if one of them is human. These two were delightful together and the story was very enjoyable
Fire had 500$ with him when he placed the bet and he gave it all to the bookie, I don't see how he owes him more money, the bet was 500, not 5000.
Fire still has the bracelet on when he went to help the kid get unstuck, but there he is thinking how he can't shimmer the kid out because he and teacher are both human, no mention of him being unable to do it because of the bracelet. I know I'm splitting hairs, but attention to detail is very important. That's the kind of shit that ruins the book.
I'm a bit bothered that Fire and Ruttford never interacted in this book. I'm aware that Ruttford isn't thrilled with his brother but since this author is very optimistic and positive I would've thought she would write about brothers mending fences alongside Fire's relationship with his mate.
Fire is Melonee's brother in law who has gambling addiction. It started when Fire hanging out with the bad crowds and he fell deeper and deeper into addiction. He just wants to be accepted for who he was since his parents dictate his life and tried to change him. Being art teacher and mated to Rio, finally Fire knows how to live his life in the right direction not just wandering around with no purpose whatsoever.
Me reí tanto leyendo este libro, no puedo creer que haya tardado tanto en leerlo. Casi me había olvidado de todos los personajes de este universo jaajajaj.
Okay I get making this asshole work and even working with kids, but taking on a whole classroom himself without a lesson plan or any training? How is that fair to the kids?
3.5 Found to be on the humorous side, but not in a silly way. Take a jerk you want to smack and get behind the top layer to see what's really going on.. Then take Mr. Boring and give him some adventure with a mate who can't seem to stay out of trouble.. Both MC's leave something to be desired at the beginning (bad if you don't give them enough time to turn it around) but soon start opening up and changing attitudes of each other.
Fire was hard to like, while Rio was a bit bland blended with typical Alpha male mate personalities (I believed it was by design to juxtapose with Fire's wild nature.)
I am not sure if Fire's gambling problem was addressed realistically or was glossed over but it was irritating to read. It wasn't the centre of the story and hardly touched upon, which I supposed coincided with how Fire keep avoiding the counselings.
The birth side story was nice, story itself felt as if it was by rote somewhat.
These stories connect to each other seamlessly; the characters’ interactions and situations work together like well-oiled machines. This author has done a teriffic job of creating a world where paranormal creatures of all types live in harmony. As a reader, you are able to immerse yourself in Hagan’s fictional towns and her characters’ storylines. If you’re a fan of M/M paranormal romance, then I definitely recommend this book and this author.
I liked this one. Even though I wish Fire's addiction had been treated with a bit more weight I still found myself enjoying this book. Fire and Rio are really well matched and I am kind of enjoying that the couples in this series don't seem to have quite the "instant" love connection as in other series. They're still drawn to each other and there's definite instant attraction but there seems to be more of a growing into feelings than feelings just automatically being there b/c they are mates.
I like Rio and Fire, but I had to take away a star for the depiction of the elementary school. Teachers do not get to tell secretaries to type forms for them. Teachers, especially elementary teachers, don't get whole hours for lunch. In fact, at the elementary level, most teachers have to eat with their classes.
This is turning out to be a great series. I hope it doesn't do a down turn like the Shifters of Mystery series. Gotta wonder though, when will Melonee give birth?
Same old, same old. I must say though that I liked Fire and found it funny how he dealt with his students. I also liked his and Rio's chemistry; they fit together well.
