Imani Stuart is a thirty-year-old secretary with what she feels is a cushy job. She has the hours she loves, the pay is top notch, and when the days are slow she is content to fantasize about her sexy boss Mac to pass away the time…until she stumbles upon a curious find within his desk drawer, a find that blurs the lines between private longings and untold desires.
Jonathan “Mac” Mackenzie is a man that knows what he wants and gets it. At thirty-three, he seems to have it all. When he sets his sights on his hot little secretary, he knows he wants to be more than just her boss. Despite his charm, good looks, and success, one part of his life, a hidden lifestyle, threatens to unhinge the perfect working relationship.
Can they each find what they truly desire, or will the journey ruin the friendship they hold dear?
Mimi Tulane is a dreamer of dreams and loves to write. Born in St. Louis, Missouri where she spent most of her life, she now resides in Muskegon, Michigan. She is a former member of the United States Army and has traveled most of the U.S. and lived three years in Germany. Mimi is a wife and mother of three and self proclaimed Grand-Diva of one. The one thing I lament more than anything as a lifestyle Dominant is when a story catches my attention and then, once I get into the heart of the book, turns in a direction that I don’t agree with. When it comes to my lifestyle, I’m critical of others who write about it. Some get it right, and some get it horribly wrong.
With that being said, I found myself in that quandary with Curiously Curious by Mimi Tulane.
On the one hand, I give the writer credit for getting some of the D/s protocol into the dialog and doing so with candor and accuracy. On the other hand, I lamented the speed with which the D/s relationship developed and came to fruition, although I have to admit it is a sign of the D/s times, so to speak, with the newly developed concept of “Velcro collars.”
Mac and Imani went from boss/employee to Dominant/submissive quick, and you’ll have to read the novella to see what I mean by that. The new relationship energy was intense, which enhanced the speed of the course of the journey, and being around each other for a long time as boss/employee might have had something to do with that, too.
Overall, Curiously Curious is an interesting story told with hot sex scenes that definitely kept the story spinning faster than an old set of 22-inch Sprewell spinning rims. For the novice kinkster or those who are curious about the D/s lifestyle, this is a fun read for them. For me, I guess it would have been an entertaining read if I weren’t so versed in D/s protocol, and the HEA for me seemed a bit rushed, but it was a novella, so I have to keep that in mind.
Kudos to Ms. Tulane, and I am looking forward to see her growth as an author.
I really, really liked this book! I loved the way Miss Tulane took some time to have the characters go through the process of teaching/learning the lifestyle. And the main characters, the scenes, and the SEX were HOTTT!!!
My ONLY complaint is that EVERYTHING moved so fast. I know that that has to happen with a story of this length, but I like being able to get to know more about the characters, and watch (read) as they get to know each other and their relationship grows. This will not keep me from reading any books that come after this, however. ;)
Tulane's first book demonstrated her attention to grabbing the reader quickly... I enjoyed this read and look forward to reading other books by her. Mac -- what a man!!!!!!!!!!!!! How I love HEA!!!!!!!!!!!
