Hey Sarah! An actual physical copy! :P Told you I will request the hell out of the library.

I should've read this a long time ago but yeah...kind of got dragged into more manga/anime stuff with my friends. So where do I begin with the review...

I really liked the manga. The characters seemed interesting...some odd but definitely interesting.

Mikan...well she was really your typical manga type of girl. She was ummm...the happy, bubbly character. But she cried a lot as well. I mean i know her best

Impressive book, I really liked the imagination of the story, however the depth of emotions and the behavior that the characters have really seems inconsistent with their age. Otherwise I think this is a great graphic novel.

Optimistic if not too bright heroine - Check
Dour, cynical, yet good hearted sidekick - Check

While the series doesn't appear to be subverting the mysterious school genre, it at least has some interesting bells and whistles. Worth taking a shot.

Here is another manga that I haven't decided yet if I will continue following. The premise is pretty simple, and pretty familiar. Mikan is trying to get into a special school for Alices, because her best friend Hotaru is going there now. As she discovers, Alices have a magical ability that can be powerful and even destructive. Her Alice is a mystery to her until the end of the volume, but most readers will figure it out very early on. So yes, it is rather like X-Men in some ways, except that the ...more

I’ve always been careful about what shojo manga I read, because normally (as is the case with this) I slowly begin to hate it. But when I watched the anime for this I was drawn in by the cuteness of these kids and Natsume’s love for Mikan (forgive me if those aren’t their names it’s been a hot minute) and Milan’s gradual love for Natsume. It was all so simple in the anime with a nice climax and a nice ending, so what happened with the manga?

Around the halfway point — the point everyone says is t

Recommends it for: Fellow humans in search for a cute and hilarious fantasy manga
I began this series YEARS AGO, like back when I was in the 7th grade. I always passed the shelf with this series in the library and I never took notice of it until one day when I pulled out volume 2 (yes, I started with volume 2 because I couldn't find volume 1).

And now that I'm reading volume 24, I can easily say . . . I LOVE GAKUEN ALICE!!!!
I LOVE this series!! I am madly, passionately, and irrevocably in love with it! Which is why I'm super happy to say that Gakuen Alice is my first 5-star-ra

This is actually much better than I expected! It's like a cute, shoujo cross between X-men and Hollowfeilds. I have to wonder why they refer to a child's special ability as an "Alice", since that seems like such a random name for it; the only reference I can think of is Alice in Wonderland, falling down the rabbit hole into a place where the rules are upside down and inside out. The cutesy friendship-centered surface of the story belies the depth of the plot. The children are surprisingly violen ...more

I kept hearing that this was the "next Fruits Basket" as that's what TP wants you to believe, and though I was dubious I was charmed right away by this first volume. It skews a bit younger than Fruits Basket, by virtue of the fact that it's about elementary school students, but the cute art, silly sense of humor, and magical circumstances do give it a similar appeal to Fruits Basket. I was initially unsure as to whether teens would be put off by the young age of the heroine (she's 10) but I don' ...more

Rating untuk seluruh seri.

Alice Academy punya karakter yang menarik dengan perkembangan karakter yang nggak kalah menarik. Sayangnya world building-nya nggak pas. Kenapa pemilih alice diperlakukan sebegitunya?

Gakuen Alice is such a great manga! After reading "Fruits Basket" barely anything could satisfy my standards but this did. It is my second favorite manga of all time. The characters: Mikan, Natsume, Hotaru, and Ruka, are all so captivating and heartwarming. You come to love them all despite their sillinesses. Mikan can be whiney and dumb, but she's determined, saucy, sweet, and adorably persistent! Natsume first seems...well evil. But come on--you knew Mikan deserved it (well not always) but aft ...more

Read up to 50 chapters and decided to drop it. Realized it's Shoujo and not meant for me.
The Art is Horrible, seems to be just novice sketches - still could have worked if the story and plot were good. In the initial 20 chapters the weird relationship between the characters created good humor. That is the only strong point of the writing. The Story seemed confusing and random. Didn't like any of the main characters, its the side characters which made it a bearable read - Hotaru and the mind read

One word: AWESOME
Gakuen Alice fluently ties together "kid life" and "adult life" perfectly! At first glance you might think that this book is just another silly kid story, but once you get into it there's a good chance you will forever be hooked! This was actually the very first manga that I had ever read and it is still one of THE best ones so far.

This is probably the longest manga that I saw through till the end - and didn't regret for a single moment. It was fun watching the mangaka's art change from basic to beautiful to ... kinda overdone? It's amazing how an artist's work can grow and change over the years.

I BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT! Or first chapter in this case...
Maybe this is just a manga thing but I fell in love with EVERY single character I swear. Mikan is my FAVORITE type of character and her bff Hotaru is my favorite type of cold character. She's such a tsundere I swear. (I love those) I also really love the friendship they share. Hotaru has her own ways of expressing her love but Mikan is the type that expresses hers very openly. It's really cute that the whole story started because

Good concept and pretty emotionally affecting sometimes, with decent character arcs and redemptive storylines. The characters (especially Natsume) are really thin manga tropes, unfortunately, and the tone shifts around wildly, with a lot of convenient ex machina Alices showing up without foreshadowing. I appreciate that Japanese comic artists have to work at kind of a breakneck pace, but this has a lot of the same problems as a lot of popular mainstream manga with regards to continuity and pacin ...more

For brevity I only added the first volume to my goodreads! This entire series was my first manga I've read, and let me say I was sucked into the story so hard. Couldn't stop reading it! I love the characters Tachibana Higuchi created and breathed life into as well as quite a few inspirational quotes from these characters. Thank you for such an amazing portrayal of determination, forgiveness, hilarious and cute sense of fun, resilience, and love from this story.

Want a read about cool magic?
About kids who are adorable and at the same time annoying?
About two kids who felt feelings from puppy love to true love?
A manga wherein the reader will witness the growth of every character?
A manga with a cover that shouts kids and no action scenes but in reality the action is really intense?
Well, this is for you.

COMPLETED || i had a lot of fun with this manga. I laugh so many times and cry with their heartbreaks. As the story progresses, each main cast enter character development that you will not see them anymore as elementary kids who love to play around but 11 year olds with reality far greater than youth will allow.

Just go for it. You won't regret this.

I read this when I was 12, and over a decade and hundreds of manga later, this is that 'one' manga which holds its very special place.

Friendship, enmity, danger to romance, this is just too precious.

Absolutely amazing, the mangaka is a treasure.
