1940s Hairstyles
Essential to re-creating an authentic 1940s look, this resource guide to period styles covers everything from short hairdos popular in the early 1940s to the late 1940s "cut to fit" look made popular by Christian Dior. Hundreds of vintage illustrations, photographs, and diagrams accompany detailed instructions and techniques for replicating the styles of the decade. Fun facts and trivia related to the hairstyles of the time are included, as is a look at "War Time" hair and regulations brought about by the government. Comprehensive lists of the beauty tools needed to create these hairdos, where to purchase the various hard-to-find items discussed, and hairstyles based on hair length and type are all included for those interested in revisiting the period beauty of the 1940s.

I have been waiting to find this book for less than 100$ for a few years now. It did not disappoint! This book, unlike those of it's ilk, has directions for cuts not just styles. Awesome!

Found this book while researching for a 1940s transformation photo shoot and found the information helpful.
There were plenty of photos and illustrations to show how to create the various styles. The make-up-artists (MUA) that came to the shoot liked the information and used some of the tips while creating the styles.
The results from the 1940s transformation shoot will be up on my photography site http://rileyphoto.zenfolio.com/ take a look and see how the information helped.
A good reference, and happy the local library carries it.

I've read many, many vintage style books, and this one wasn't the best of them. It's informative, that's for sure, well researched too, but the directions were a bit too hard for my liking, and there were too many spelling mistakes. I'm glad I've added this book to my collection, because I don't have enough books about 1940s hair, but if you want a book that's easy to follow, this one isn't for you!

Super short. Some interesting vintage pictures, but little useful information; for a free book it was interesting, but I would have been disappointed if I'd paid anything for it. I found the Lauren Rennells vintage hairstyles book much more useful, for me at least.
