A great story but some of it needs a little more. I feel like there was a lot of things that got rushed such as the magic competition. And some of Celestine’s actions didn’t make sense for royalty such as traveling to another kingdom who was expecting her in an unmarked carriage instead of one with her kingdom’s symbol on it. Our princess is definitely flawed and while she wants to befriend people below her she isn’t a great friend as she’s still willing to pull rank on them when it conveniences her.

I’m hoping with book two we not only see character development but also development in our authors writing style. Many times in this book I questioned why we were being told things instead of letting a characters actions show us something, especially when it comes to how people are feeling about things. I’ll definitely be reading book 2 when it’s out in hopes of some improvement.

Madison Rosipal does a fantastic job in writing this type of book, it had that element that I was hoping for and enjoyed the overall feel of this. It was a strong start to this series and had that element that I was hoping for from the fantasy element, everything worked well to the world and was engaged with the story. I was invested in what was going on and can't wait for more.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book had me hooked on the first page and throughout each chapter. The ending left me in suspense. I need to know what happens next! Also, Malachi is dreamy. I need to know more about his history. Thank you for such a great book!

This was such a great book to beta read. I honestly feel in love with Princess Celestine. She is the kind of heroine who doesn’t come out of the gate just full of fire like other heroines but you can see her character develop into so much more. I can’t wait to see what kind of Queen she turns out to be. Then there is Malachi who is an absolute sweetheart and such a great supporting character to Celestine. I’m really interested to see how these two characters develop together as well as alone. It’s obvious who the love interest for Malachi is and I’m living for it! I really hope that Celestine realizes hers too but since she is in that “I need to be able to show I can be a strong Queen” I’m afraid that it will be a moment before she realizes that someone is interested in her. I look forward to reading the entire book (series?).
