“They are everywhere, can be anyone, and are always the last person you’d expect.” When Tom stumbles across his grandfather’s journal, he’s convinced the old man was crazier than he thought. The book contains references to beings called the Sary, immortals who are assigned to save humans on the verge of suicide. They certainly aren’t allowed to fall in love with mortals. W ...more

If you’ve read my blog you already know I have mad love for Meradeth Houston. Not only is she a sweet person (and funny), but she is a wicked talented author. When I read her debut young adult paranormal Colors Like Memories I was blown away. I love her writing style and the subject matter was so relevant to today’s teens. It’s an awesome book all the way around. I highly recommend it. If you haven’t picked up a copy, get one. You’ll be glad you did.

Based on my experience with Colors Like Memori

The Chemistry of Fate is Meradeth Houston's second book, although its events occur before those of her first book, Colors Like Memories. Both take place in a world very much like ours, except for the existence of Sary, angel-like beings who are the souls of children who die before taking their first breaths. In their new forms, they are tasked to help those considering suicide. I loved Colors Like Memories, and The Chemistry of Fate did not disappoint.

Ari loves being a Sary; Tom, a human, doesn

I read 'Colors Like Memories' a while back, so I was really excited to read this book.

This companion novel focuses on Tom and Arianna(Ari), this time Ari, who is Sary, has been assigned by the big guys in Sary to watch over Tom and find out what he knows about them.

What Ari doesn't expect, is to like Tom. All Tom wants to do is work hard to earn his scholarship, but along comes Ari. As the story progresses, the two try to fight their feelings, but eventually learn to accept them. We meet other

Tom is intrigued by a journal he found that belonged to his grandfather. The journal is in his grandfather’s handwriting, but seems to contain the most bizarre story Tom has ever read. He isn’t sure if his grandfather was crazy, but he definitely refers to himself as a Sary and describes events Tom can’t believe he actually lived through. He can’t stop thinking about what his grandfather said about the Sary, “They are everywhere, can be anyone, and are always the last person you'd expect.” Consi ...more

Wow, what a story! It had sweet parts what melted my heart and intense parts what made me sit on the edge of my seat. A whole different story about the Sary than in Colors Like Memories.

At the beginning I wondered what this story will be about, who are these characters introduced in here. Soon I found it was very easy to read and I enjoyed what I‘ve read. It kept me interested and wondering what‘s going on here, who is the Sary and who is the assignment. When I finally got it who is the main ch

Chemistry of fate is about a young boy, Tom, who found his grandfathers journal which contained references to immortal beings called the sary, who are assigned to help prevent humans from committing suicide. His grandfather fell in love with a human so lost his Sary wings and became mortal. Ary, a Sary herself, is sent out to find out what Tom knows about the Sary and, either convince him that they aren’t real, or report back and allow him to be left to fate. But, as Ary spends time with Tom, sh ...more

What a rollicking, soaring read! I don't usually read paranormal YA, so this well-written book was a welcome surprise! Houston's lyrical descriptions of the setting and vivid details about the characters really made the book come alive and seem normal – not even paranormal – but grounded in reality. Carefully constructing her evocative images, the author actually makes it easy to believe that characters can grow wings and have a supernatural existence in a parallel world. The alternating points ...more

Another great book by Meradeth! This one I admit took me a little longer to get into, but part of that was because I started reading it like it was a Sequel when it isn't really. It's more of a Partner I think. The style of her writing in this book with it bouncing between the two characters equally was really good, but again I had a little trouble with it in the beginning. I tend to want to skip over chapters to see what happens next. Haha Over all though, I really love this world of the Sary a ...more

Did you ever see City of Angels? Were you intrigued by the concept but disappointed with the results? Well, Meradeth Houston takes the concept, of an immortal who must choose between love and eternal life, and, where City of Angels fails, she succeeds. Love, intrigue, family history, immortality, and a splash of danger blend together in this well told story. THE CHEMISTRY OF FATE is a must read!

MY REVIEW
I received an e-copy of this book direct from the author Meradeth Houston. As I had read Colors Like Memories, I wanted to read this one then. However, when I realised The Chemistry Of Fate was set prior to Colors Like Memories I was a little unsure if it would work for me or not.
So to the cover I like the magical feel of the cover and the colours of cover too. Upon reading the book you realise the "creature" on the cover is in fact Arianne in her Sary form, complete with those gorgeous

Our family is a huge part of who we are. So when Tom discovers his grandfather's journal, he wants to know more about the man. What he doesn't suspect is that his grandfather was a Sary--an angel born from the soul of a child who died before taking his/her first breath. Without this 'breath of life' he/she and others like him/her must help those on the verge of suicide. (from Colors Like Memories description)

But the Sary don't want humans knowing about them, so they send Ari to watch Tom and mak

This story is almost a companion prequel to Colors Like Memories. I'm not sure exactly how soon before Colors this one takes place, but the fact that there's internet places it no more than 22 years before Colors (IF Colors took place this year).
I was a tad confused with the Ezekial character.. If I'm not mistaken, there's a Sary with the same name in Colors as well which threw me off for a bit.

Before I started reading this I assumed the Sary where Angels, but they’re not, they are something else. A Sary is an angel like being created by the soul of a child who dies before taking its first breath, they have wings and their purpose is to help people who are contemplating suicide. People are not supposed to find out about the Sary, so when Tom finds his grandfathers journal in which he talks about being Sary, Tom comes under secret

Do you remember the first time you saw or captured a lightning bug in a jar? That sense of wonder is akin to what I felt when Houston introduced me to the Sary in her first book. In this, Houston's second Sary story, the wonder continues, and revelations abound.

What happens when a Sary and a mortal fall in love? Is a match like that doomed from the get-go? I mean, after all, no matter what she looks like to him now, she IS more than 600 years old, and HE'S a still-wet-behind-the-ears college stu

First, let me explain what a Sary is. It's an angel who is created from a child who dies before taking their first breath. Now, the Sary are secret - no one is supposed to know about them and no one is supposed to fall in love with them. But Tom's grandfather did and he journalled about it.

The Sary send Ari to see how much Tom really knows and from there, it's a love story that will make you cry and warm your heart. I read the first book in the series, Colors like Memories, but The Chemistry of

Tom has possession of his grandfather’s journal, part of which is in Persian and the rest of it talks about creatures known as the “Sary.” He thinks it’s all bizarre, but the reality is that his grandfather was one of the Sary.

Ari enters his world. She’s beautiful and into him. Her interest isn’t fake at all, even though she’s not really a college student. In fact, she’s hundreds of years old. She’s a Sary who needs to ensure that Tom doesn’t reveal his knowledge of these beings to others. The t

This is the first book I have read from Meradeth Houston. If Colors Like Memories is anything like The Chemistry of Fate then I am sure I will love it. Ari is a Sary sent on an assignment to find out what Tom knows about the Sary. As they get to know each other and spending more time together they start to fall in love. The more Ari finds out what Tom knows the more she feels like she has to protect him but instead things start going very wrong for both of them. I really liked that Tom and Ari's ...more

Meradeth Houston did it again in this sequel to COLORS LIKE MEMORIES. We learn more about the Sary, their duties, and their interactions with humans as Ms. Houston weaves a tale of love and sacrifice that will break your heart.

My only complaint is the end came to soon, leaving me waiting for the release of book three!

Ari loved her job until she meet Tom her next assignment, a mortal that knows all about the Sary existence.
Ari makes one mistake after another that can cost Tom his life and her wings.

The question is what will she give up to save Tom from his fate ?

This is a great read and a must have in your library !!!

First I have to emphasize that paranormal isn't really my thing and I loved this book. It is, first and foremost, a romance and a new adult one at that. You couldn't help but root for Tom and Ari (the Sary!) from page one all the way to the end.

I loved reading about the Sary. I'm a big sucker for paranormal romance. I'm usually into more naughtier version of paranormal romance but this is a great book for YA readers. I give the novel a 5Star review. Wonderful job.

The Chemistry of Fate, introduced me to mystical beings known as Sary’s. A type of angel, created from the spiritual essence of babies who died before taken their first breath. They are immortal, they look human and walk the earth. The story is told from two point of view. That of the main character Tom and Ari the Sary who is assigned to investigate Tom. The story begins with Tom. He has found a journal written by his grandfather a Sary who gave up his
