The Devil You Know is the third book in Victoria Vane’s The Devil DeVere series, and once again we’re returned to Georgian England where the wealthy enjoy lives of power, privilege, and sexual indulgence. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the series, A Wild Night's Bride and The Virgin Huntress, but oh, how I loved this story!!!

Lady Diana Palmerston-Wriothesely is a beautiful and respectable lady. Her world comes apart when she discovers a sordid secret about her husband, which will shatter her facade and drive her right in the arms of the devil himself DeVere.
Diana
Lord Ludovic DeVere, is a charming and a sexy rogue, that's use to getting what he wants on a whim. He's the devil in disguise and will stop at nothing to get his wicked ways with Diana. This is where the fun and games begin.

Loved it! In THE DEVIL YOU KNOW (book 3 of The Devil DeVere series) the plot thickens, the heat is turned way up, and --oh boy-- do the games begin. What a great spicy historical romance series!!
THE DEVIL YOU KNOW is also part 1 of a 2-part story featuring Viscount Ludovic, aka ‘The Devil DeVere’ and Lady Diana Palmerson-Wriotesley. (Book 4, THE DEVILS MATCH, is the conclusion to their extremely HOT and passionate romance.)

5 Devilishly Delightful Stars!! Victoria Vane does it again; she’s three books strong into this series, and I can’t get enough!
In the first two books in the series Ludovic DeVere had a hand in orchestrating the pairing of the couples that were featured. This time he’s in the spotlight, the story takes us back in time and we learn what led him to lead to his wicked ways. At this point his best friend Ned, is blissfully married to Annalee and they are expect ...more

Out of the whole series, this is the book I really wanted to read, but more then that I wanted to know more about the one called Devil Devere, a man whose had his nose in pretty much everyone's business from the beginning of the series (for good of course!) Victoria Vane doesn't disappoint with a reveling and somewhat sad backstory of both Lady Diana and Ludovic. The passion flares hot between the two and I really grew to like Diana who never appealed to be me before this book.

Vauxhall Gardens - the Grand Walk, c.1751
by Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio Canal)

★★★★★ (This is a review of the audiobook.) Eva Hathaway is a new to me narrator, and I must admit I had to get used to her reading. Nevertheless, once I did, I quite enjoyed her. She certainly improved – or I adapted – as this delightful story moved along at a brisk pace. Her “S” letters have a strong “sssss” sound, giving some of them a bit of a whistle, but it isn’t too bad. (Better than a hiss, certainly.) It was so ...more

THE WAITING IS OVER! THE DELICIOUSLY WICKED, DECIDEDLY DEVIOUS, DEVIL-IN-DIGUISE, VISCOUNT LUDOVIC DEVERE FINALLY GETS HIS OWN STORY
It was so obvious in The Virgin Huntress that DeVere and Diana shared a previous history together and I couldn’t wait to find out exactly what had transpired between them to cause such tension. THE SEDUCTION:
She wanted him too. He could see it in the rapid rise of her breasts. He could smell her budding arousal and would relish bringing her to full bloom. God, how he loved this dance! She had taken the first tentative steps, yet she still fought her desire, refused to give in to it, but he would lead her now. He was a master and a ruthless bastard.

Lovers of steamy Historical Romance
And here we get to the meat of this mini-series. The man I waited for...Ludovic DeVere! This book wasn't nearly as lighthearted as the precious two...though the steam factor was turned up a notch!
I actually love how the author has laid out the time line for this series. During books one and two, we get little snippets of DeVere and a Diana...you know there is a tension there, and it builds little bits at a time. I'm making really high-pitch girly noises right now.
Why, you may ask?
Because the Devil DeVere series just keeps getting better and better!
I'm going to try my best to write this review without giving away any spoilers from the two previous Devil DeVere books. I will say that if you haven't read them:
1. You are missing out
2. You're not going to feel as emotionally attached to the characters

Surrender to DeVere!
I'm loving to have the chance to follow this series while it's still being written. I just heard that Victoria Vane (AKA Emery Lee) might be adding 2 more novellas and a spin off! It's so exciting to see it grow book by book. I'm getting addicted to Victoria's writing, it's like a drug.
This third chapter of The Devil DeVere series is a prequel that begs to be told and is imperative to understand the next title. But if it's a prequel, why put it in the middle of the series?

Oh yes, its quite obvious this series is headed into the homestretch as this story both answered and created a lot of mystery in the main story thread that has been tying the series together. It is book three in the series, but chronologically it falls before book one because it takes the story back to the time hinted at in the first two books when the reader is given broad hints of a past history between DeVere and Diana involving the death of her husband and a clandestine passionate interlude.

Oh, my, my, my. Viscount Ludovic DeVere has played a vital role in the first two novellas as a "matchmaker". He was a very interesting character and I was somewhat surprised that Diana and he had something in the past. Before this, I would never have thought of this coupling but The Virgin Huntress hinted at that and The Devil You Know revealed the events that happened four years ago.

I had the pleasure of reading this book before its release date! I loved the first two books in this series, and the third definitely does not disappoint. It’s a bit more graphic than the first two, but Victoria makes it work in very fine style!
What I love most about this series, and this book in particular, is that it is capable of standing alone without the hot and steamy scenes. It doesn’t happen too often that an ‘erotica’ storyline could stand on its own two feet without the erotica, but th ...more

Once again, Victoria Vane magically transports the reader back into Georgian England. Her ear for dialogue is simply faultless. And while Viscount DeVere has been a fascinating presence in the previous two installments, this time he is the Star. And what a delicious bad boy he is! Lady Diana doesn't stand a chance against him. And although they part as enemies at the end, I can't wait for the final chapter, when these two will no doubt find their way back into one another's arms.

Awesome!!! This series of short stories must be read in order. Loved it!!!

We first met Viscount Ludovic DeVere in A WILD NIGHT'S BRIDE when he talked his pal, Ned Chambers and Phoebe Scott into a dare that results in them waking up in the King's bed. Then we followed his naughty influence on the incorrigible Vesta Chambers when he assists her in her plan to kidnap his own brother, Hew DeVere so that she may seduce him in THE VIRGIN HUNTRESS. All the while, we get hints that the Lady Diana Palmerston-Wriothesley - cousin to Ned's first wife, Annalee and godmother to Ve

"The Devil You Know" is novella #3 in this novella series and
its events take place prior to the events of novellas #1 and #2.

A deliciously shocking addition to the DeVere Series that was jam packed full of jaw dropping surprises. This is the third book in the Devil DeVere Series (the series MUST be read in order) and it clarified many questions that lingered of past relations with Diana and DeVere from the others in the series. We also got to know more of what made our devilish DeVere who he’s reputed to be and some of the why(s). It was a great experience to have the guarded DeVere open to us all. I'm loving him more

Out of the three Devil Devere books I’ve read this is by FAR my favorite! Victoria Vane managed to weave a fantastic tale of intrigue, romance, passion and deceit! I was hooked from the moment I started reading!

“The latest mode from Paris, the gown had a devastatingly low, square-cut bodice accentuated with the tiniest bit of sheer, gold trim that barely concealed a hint of dusky nipple. If the viscount appreciated her well-endowed bosom, what harm in teasing from afar that which he could never touch? Deeming it naught but a bit of harmless flirtation with a charming rogue, Diana paid little heed to the fleeting notion that she might actually be playing with fire.”
