Escapement by Ciara Knight is ruthless, exciting, and action packed. The story takes place in a dystopian United States ten years after the great war of 2185; its population is divided into three races: humans, Kantian, and Neumarian. The Nuemarians are enslaves and viewed as parasites by the Kantians. To make matters worse Semara, the Kantian princess, must choose a Nuemarian who will be sacrificed so she can take her place among the council. Yet, Semara does not have the he

It took me awhile to get into this book, but once I did, I found a very interesting read!

This book takes place in a dystopian/steampunk future. In this society, there are three different races: humans, Kantian, and Neumarian. The Neumarians have supernatural abilities and are enslaved. The world is taken over by a ruthless Queen, Semara's mother. As princess, Semara has to sacrifice a Neumarian on her birthday. When she come

I love the dystopian world that has been created and Ciara does a wonderful job developing the characters and making you feel connected to them. The main characters, Ryder and Semara are fighting for their lives as they try to join up with the rebellion. They are running from the Queen, who is no other than Princess Semara's mother! Full of action and a developing loving story I highly recommend this book to anyone!

I would also like to say that I love the cover of this book! A lot of covers loo

Escapement was a riveting story that reeled me in and never let me go. I could not put this book down. I didn't want to. What I loved about this book was its uniqueness and originality. I haven't read another book like it so that makes it even more special. The world building was well crafted and well thought out. I felt as if I was right there with the characters, experiencing everything they felt. I was able to see what they saw, feel what they felt. This story was written beautifully. The cha ...more

I really, really love this series. I read this book as fast as I could because I couldn’t wait to see what happens. Unfortunately things like work and sleep got in the way. Now that I am finished all I have to say is how much longer do I have to wait for the next book?

First I am going to start with the cover of this book. I love the cover! It is awesome and like the prequel it goes so well with the story. The cover alone makes me want to read this story. Again the clock is on the front and this

I really wasn't sure what rating to give this book.

The plot is really interesting with many new ideas and exotic fantasy beings and gifts. There is a lot of action in it and there are a lot of twists and turns.

But here is the problem... as many ideas as there are, I had a feeling that none of them was really thought through. Nothing was explained fully, everything was hinted at and sometimes a character that I wasn't even aware had arrived said or did something. At times this was really puzzli

I have to say that I loved this book. Yes, it moved very quickly but you were caught up in the excitement and it was not a bad thing. I love when books move you along and not drag out to the point that I am bored to tears. There was enough tension and things that you got glimpses of but you never knew the whole story. Ms. Knight did a great job of developing her characters and making you either love or hate them.

I am not going to give a lot of details about the story, that has already been done

Escapement by Ciara Knight

Rating 5*****

This book was provided from the author for honest literary review.

I'm usually not crazy about science fiction stories at all, but this one is a book of a different breed. It touches on the paranormal, has background in science fiction and lingers in romance. Not a bad combination at all.
Semara has the so not sweet sixteenth birthday. See either she has to sacrifice a person or lose her life. What the cost of being a daughter to the Queen! Then she gets b

The first book in the Neumarian Chronicles, Escapement (all of the books in the series are named after clock parts), is a YA dystopian set in 2190s after a devastating war has leveled modern civilization. The remaining humans are broken down into two major groups: Kiantan (normal but ability to handle tech upgrades) and Neumarian (enhanced psi abilities). The Neumarians are controlled to ensure they don't 'destroy hum

I'm not quite sure I agree with the label "steampunk" for this series of books and it's really a personal thing --- I've come to categorize steampunk for a certain era, usually Victorian, and this one is set in the future with flying ships (not planes)and a cyborgian body modifications. It is more dystopian science fiction fantasy than steampunk to me.

Regardless of what you call it, this series (I started with the prequel, WEIGHTED) is gripping. It is filled with action, tension, suspense, char

I was loaned this book. OK, I will start off by saying that I don't read steampunk, or at least I haven't before. This is a kind of mishmash of action, adventure, paranormal, romance, sci-fi, romance, and more. This story is set in the future, 2685, after a great war. 16 year old Princess Semara is the Kantian princess, in order to help her mother become more powerful, she is supposed to sacrifice a slave. When she balks at the plan and runs, all hell breaks loose. Her mother is an evil, power hu ...more

In a desperate quest to make it to the coast and to the heart of the rebellion, Princess Semara travels with hunky, kindhearted Ryder and his quirky, mentally damaged (but somehow charming sister) Raeth across a scarred postwar earth. On the way, Semara learns from a confidant that the rebellion might just find it more lucrative to turn Semara in to her mother, the evil queen and Semara’s archenemy than to accept Semara into their own fold. This is part of the uncertainty that fuels the tension ...more

This was my first “steampunk” series… and I am a FAN!! I read the Prequel first so I knew some of the history for Escapement. You do not have to read the Prequel to enjoy this first installment but I recommend it!! I just love Ciara Knight’s writing style. She puts you completely into the story and makes you believe every word. You become so engaged with the character that they become real! You route, worry for, and become emotionally attached to the characters… especially the “Triune”. With new ...more

The world in Escapement comes to life in this amazing tale of three young people who brave a great unknown in an effort to save their people. The action is nonstop, but what got me was the raw emotion. it was as if I was right there with them as they fought not only against the familiar, but also insurmountable odds in an unknown territory. The supporting characters stand out and are very well done, but the protagonists, Semara, Ryder and Raeth are awesome. What a great read! Definitely recommen ...more

Ok, I waited for this one as Weighted (The Prequel) was the hook the draws you in. Ciara Knight has written a fantastic story here. Non-stop action with vivid characters and surroundings has become one of her trademarks, and she does not disappoint. Her integration of steampunk type machinery into the story as well as a certain victorian era styling really sets this story off. I beta read this book and really had a hard time finding any problems with it, it is that well written. Another winner h ...more

I really enjoyed this novel it is much like many other books being written at the moment but that didnt lessen my enjoyment of it. The setting is well developed and the slang in the diffrent areas/people make it realistic and i also like the romance and the secrets that pop up though out the book as the well developed character uncover more about eachother and the world around them. A great read and interested to know whats to happen next.

WOW!! Just WOW!!!
The action, the way the characters come to life, the storyline.... They got me hooked and I just couldn’t put the book down! I read it all night long and I was not disappointed I lost all my sleep.
I now declare that this series is one of the best dystopians I’ve read and I’m really glad I gave this author the shot she is more than worth!
I received a free copy, in exchange for my honest opinion.
Fell in Love!!!

I have fallen in love with a new series. The characters will make you fall in love with them or hate them. I loved the twists and turns throughout the book. It kept me very engrossed from start to finish. I am heading off now to read the next book.
