दीवान नाहर सिंह को पुरानी ऐतिहासिक महत्त्व की चीजें एकत्र करने का शौक था । अपने इस अभूतपूर्व कलेक्शन की नुमायश के वास्ते वो अनेक सुरक्षा इंतजामों के बीच अक्सर बड़ी-बड़ी पार्टियां देता था । लेकिन उसके तमाम इंतजाम धरे-के-धरे रह गए जब एक रोज ऐसी ही पार्टी के बाद एक बुद्ध की मूर्ति गायब पाई गई ।

मूर्ती की चोरी..... बैक तो हु दंन इट
मैं पिछले कुछ नोवलो से निराशाजनक स्थिति मे था की किस तरह से सुनील सीरीज के नॉवेल थ्रीलर का रूप ले बैठा था
ये नॉवेल बिधा को तोड़ता हैं
सुनील को रमाकांत का फ़ोन आता हैं. नाहर दीवान -आर्ट कलेक्टर -के घर से -पार्टी से बुद्ध की मूर्ति दूसरी बार चोरी हुई थी जिसकी सुरक्षा में वो था
लिफ्ट में एक्स रे थी गेट पर रमाकांत खुद फिर मूर्ति और साथ में ब्लोवर गायब कैसे हुआ?
सवाल का जबाब फोटोग्राफर सुदेशकुमार -जिसके कैमरे से मूर्ति और बैसखी से ब्लोवर हासिल होता हैं. दिलचसप बात थी की वो इस बात से अनभिज्ञ था. सुनील बताता भी नहीं...
दोनों चीज वापस करने दो बार जाता हैं....
ब्लोवर में दीवान की बीबी मिलती हैं जो बातरूम से कमरे में बंद दिखाती हैं जो कुच्छ लिखता था तो ऐसा करता था
मूर्ति में दीवान का नौकर -हैरान होता है की ब्लोवर नीला के कमरे में छोड़ा था, आगे दीवान उसके साहब का बाहर ना आने की बात होती.
..... दरवाजा दूसरी चाबी से खोला जाती हैं
और लाश मिलती हैं
जहरीले तीर से मारा था, ब्लोवर के तीर, जिसका इशारा नीला का बाथरूम था, ब्लोवर भी तो वोंही था, तो कातिल नीला थी?
कहानि इसको फ़ॉलो नहीं करती..
वह नवेली के नाम, मूर्ति से जुडी रहती हैं
आगे एंजेला, नीला के मॉडल से कृष्ण नारायण मूर्ति चोर तक पहुँचती हैं जिससे अपनी बातो में फँसा दूसरी मूर्ति भी हाशिल कर उसे.... आगे चल जेल भी भिजवा देता हैं
अंत में कातिल पर कहानि लौटती हैं....
ये नॉवेल कतल पर फोकस नहीं करती खुद को डाइवर्ट नहीं करती
फिर भी एक शानदार नॉवेल बनकर उभारती हैं
जिसतरह फ्लैट से मूर्ति चोरी और कृष्ण नरायण को फँसाता उसमे परंपरिक सुनील नजर आता हैं
पिछले जेम्स बांड के बाद तो ये सुनील की शानदार वापसी हैं

This is a good adaptation of A. A. Fair's The Count of Nine. Although this story was not so very difficult to adapt, unlike Perry Mason's stories, as in the original book there is only one protagonist with a partner who helps him occasionally in investigation, just as are Sunil and Ramakant in Sunil Series. Nevertheless, SMP must get the credit to adapt the story so excellently, placing it in Indian settings so well.

The story is simple, a statue and a blow gun is stolen from an antique collection which Ramakant was given contract to guard. However, Sunil finds them very easily and returns it. Almost immediately the owner is murdered apparently from the same blow gun. Sunil investigates further and soon is able to uncover the culprit.

As in original story, the mystery is pretty easy to solve, if you are paying attention to the text. Yet, its a good and nJoyable read. Most recommended to the SMP and whodunit fans.

One of the first of Sunil novels that’s full of intrigue and suspense. Loved it.

Good

Very Nicely written novel by the writer. Suspense is maintained till the end of novel. One cannot left till the end of the story. Good one.
