His major characters are Crime reporter Sunil (unprecedented 123 Titles), Vimal (46 Titles) and Philosopher Detective Sudhir (23 titles). Apart from series, he has written 60+ Novels in thriller category.

A dead body is found on the railway tracks. The corpse is of a clerk in the Ministry of Defence, who was carrying in his person some documents which are extremely sensitive in nature. Worryingly, three sheets containing vital technical drawings are still missing. Sunil Chakravarty is enlisted as an undercover agent to trace down the drawings before they fall into the hands of an enemy nation. Who are the people behind the defence leak? Can Sunil recover the documents and return to India alive?

Written in 1966, Hongkong Mein Hungama is a roller-coaster ride, a page turner that never slackens even for a moment. It is not the typical Pathak novel in that its not a mystery. Nonetheless, there are a few surprises along the way and no little action. It is is many ways the product of an era when Hindi pulp fiction writers were expected to churn out multiple novels each month. Nonetheless, despite the pressing deadline- evident in places- it is an excellent thriller.

One of his earliest works (this was only the sixth novel, out of nearly thee hundred written to date), this is the first novel in which Pathak started showing signs of the great writer he would go on to become in the 70s. This is also the first in a series of novels written in the late 60s and early 70s, in which Sunil Chakravarty features as an undercover agent.

Despite the simplistic, even naive approach at places, for a young writer in his mid 20s still finding his feet, Hongkong Mein Hungama is an excellent work. Its nowhere near the brilliance that Pathak would achieve with his later works, but a very good novel in its own right.

Good one

Very Nicely written novel by the writer. Suspense is maintained till the end of novel. One cannot left till the end of the story. Good one.
