Refreshingly original and exciting, Opalescent will delight fans of both Young Adult and science-fiction genres!

Beautifully multi-layered and cleverly complex, I was stunned by the sheer vastness of such a substantial otherworldly creation that Sarah Elle Emm has envisaged. Drawn into an apocalyptic, futuristic setting full of danger and sinister secrets this is a story nothing short of a paranormal phenomenon. As I plunged back into the familiar mix-raced zone of the authority, I once again wa

OPALESCENT by Sarah Elle Emm - Loved it! Can't believe I have to wait until Feb. 2014 for Book 3 - I'll probably have to read the first two over again while I wait because they were intense and eye-opening, even though set in the future - but, I'm afraid I could see this happening - sadly, it's the world we live in. Hitler tried & failed but who's to say it won't be tried again!!! ...more

I'm not completely sure I liked this book. Although it was good to see the characters from the first book and get to know new ones, I found it really difficult to believe in the feelings Rain has for Jabari. Just to give an idea of one of the reasons why, this is an exchange early on between them:

Jabari: I love you because you're a warrior.
Rain: I love you because you're hot.

If it weren't for the ro

I loved Book 1 of this series, Prismatic, and when I read Book 2, Opalescent, I was thrilled to find that it was as good, if not better! Sarah Elle Emm does a wonderful job of creating a terrifying, but completely believable, science-fiction world set in the near future where people are brutally tortured and even killed for opposing the regime. Amongst its victims are a group of teenagers, introduced in Book1, who band together to fight against injustice and along the way discover that they have ...more

Sarah Elle Emm does a remarkable job of creating a science-fiction world both frightening and intriguing, set in the near future where people are harshly punished or perhaps lose their lives when opposing the tyrant who rules with a singular power-hungry intent and heavy hand. A group of teenagers (introduced in Book1) band together to try and stop the injustice and soon discover they have special powers. The book is filled with suspense, romance, complex characters and a beautifully orchestrate ...more

Another great addition to this series from this author that i enjoyed reading and it was done beautifully. The book is so done wonderfully that we get to the depth of the characters piece by piece, the dialogue, and flow of the story. A must read for any and all book lovers everywhere.

I received both the first and second book in a contest by the the author. I wasn't as fond of this book as the first, but I still really liked it. There was a bit too much teen drama for me. Overall though, I would recommend this series, and can't wait for the third book to come out. ...more

One of my favorite Young Adult books in 2012 returned with a sequel that did not disappoint. Rain and her band of super-teens (that’s my tagline, not the authors) are still enslaved in the UZA. The new breed of freedoms fighters are committed to ending the tyranny of President Nicks “Tricky Nicky”, but realize that in order to overthrow her reign of terror, they will need to devise a plan and ally themselves with other rebels. Rain begins to have unsettling dreams, where she hears the voice of a ...more

I really enjoyed reading the first book in this series, and this sequel didn't disappoint. We learn more about Rain, her brother and the rest of the resistance. The story continues to be strong, and there are a few twists and turns with the story that keeps you on your toes and the story engaging and dynamic.

The same themes still stand in this book as were in the first book Prismatic, and the author continues to impress upon the reader what a terrifying situation the members of the 'Indy mixed z

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I love this series and I am so grateful that the author sent me this book along with the first book to read and review. I am in love with the storyline it's so unique but also has "familiar" aspects because it has similarities to the holocaust. Plus it is a dystopian which is my favourite, but it had paranormal aspects as well. I did find this instalment to be a tab bit slower but only because there was so much informati

I loved this book! I read Prismatic last week for the book of the week for my book group (AARRAR) and loved that so I had to immediately buy this one to find out what happens next. This one was definitely harder to read emotionally, as I was getting more and more angry at the way the dictator-bitch was treating the mixed race zones. And I was getting angry with the characters as well... not because they sucked or anything, but some of them were hiding things and hurting others unintentionally an ...more

In this amazing sequel to Prismatic, the kids find out more about their powers. They make some new allies and find new hope. But it ends on a cliff hanger… a sad one. Life in the slightly post-apocalyptic world is terrifying and hard.

The people in these stories are flawed humans but they have found strength in each other.

I give this book 4 out of 5 clouds.
