There's a new take on just about everything now and this book is no different. Well, let me take that back- this is different. Very different and I enjoyed it!
Darlene Burns, the author of Midnight Comes With the Dawn, took the vampire in a direction that reminded me of two movies, but still stood strong on its own. There was originality, as far as a vampire story can go, but there was an inner strength that made me LOVE the tale!
Midnight, the name she goes by is Queen. She was purposefully created with a destiny and she's all about the biz, but there's something happening to the world, above and below. Humans are dying of a virus, that's now pandemic. Vampires, who are normally immune are now caught up in the plague, killing prey and predators alike.
I loved this book. It was also nice to see a strong, feminine lead, even if she played both protagonist and antagonist. Katrine had ghosts to fight and the chapters taking us back then forward helped to clarify those issues. The action was detailed and the storyline was on point.
I did find a few errors there but all in all this is an awesome story. I love the taking of something very old and snapping a new style to it and I am really looking forward to what Burns has next. Check out Midnight comes With The Dawn- available at Amazon.com!
While this book needs a good run through by an editor it was a great read. It was smooth and interesting loved the take on Vampires, loved the flashbacks every other chapter, loved the relationship between the coven, hated that a few of the girls were murdered. Loved Katrine's character but Adamine was my absolute favorite! I enjoyed the book
Queen Katrine feared and revered by many African countries is turned into a Vampire in order to fulfill her destiny. Her maker Darius comes to her to reveal that her deceased father was his best friend and knew what he was, which makes her acceptance of what she is to become no easier. Fast forward Katrine is now known as Midnight and is the leader of a lesbian clan of Vampires. A plague is killing not just humans, but Vampire kind as well. How will the oldest living Vampire in her clan find a cure? Well, you will have to read the story and find out.
This was a different spin on the Vampire tale that we normally read in paranormal fiction. Instead of the usual roguishly handsome brooding male Vamp, the author gives us a strong female lead, well more than one. Alex is a force as well. You can get more of her story in Book 2. The author did a good job of pulling you into each scene with the characters and kept a bit of realism to the story which aided in making it easy to connect with the story. However, outside of the grammatical errors & it is a bit wordy at times, I would have liked the smoother transitions when moving between flashbacks and the present. There were definitely times when I didn't realize that the next chapter was a flashback and not the present until a few sentences into it. The errors can be addressed by an editor or with a solid proofreader.
All in all the story was entertaining and was structured well enough to keep you engaged. Get your copy and please leave a review.
