Vegas is not where Karly had imagined herself to be at this point in her life. She was supposed to be living in California, soaking up the sun and enjoying the life of an artist. Instead, she's just moving out of her parent's house and going to a school that could loosely be called her second choice. When she meets Zeus Drakos, owner of the new hit casino and resort in town, he seems just like every other jerk guy out there. How was she supposed to know who he really was?

This book was an absolute disaster. I do hate leaving bad reviews but I can't help it.
You know Zeus, the mighty king of Gods and all. In this book the fates actually banish Zeus from Olympus, they take his powers because he divorced Hera. Please! Nobody gets to banish Zeus from his home because all the other gods owe him and because if it wasn't for him they wouldn't exist. Zeus can cheat whenever he wants because he is freaking Zeus and nobody can stop him, not even Hera. So I hated the fact that in this book Zeus was not Zeus but a classic creepy, rich, player with bitchy attitude. NO! God/Zeus can act that way because he is a god, but not human/Zeus.
About Karly; I hate her. She is the worst kind of female lead one can find in books. She is completely immature, she never listens to what others have to say and she is selfish, she comes to conclusions and creates unessecery drama and even though she is a college student she acts like a spoiled 15-years-old (no offense you're not all bad, just the spoiled ones!).
Other than that it was not even well written. It was like all these fan fiction written by amateurs that I used to read. Not a good job at all..
It is really sad that I actually spent hours of my life reading it but I did it because I wanted to give it a chance. Maybe the plot would have been better, maybe I misjudged it but no.
Anyway if you have second thoughts about reading I suggest you don't but that's me. It is always nice to give books a chance because you never know. I mean we all have different tastes and opinions so you may actually enjoy it!
I absolutely loved this book. The intricate story and take on the Gods was so wonderful. I felt like I was a part of the story and it came to life for me. Just all around great.
Decent story that took me ages to finally get around to, but I’m glad I did. As a fan of Greek mythology, I enjoyed this alternate take on the lives and activities of Zeus and his fellow gods and goddesses. This is the first book of the series and focuses on Zeus and his punishment for divorcing Hera. He’s stripped of his powers by the Fates and sent to live on Earth for nine years, to Las Vegas of all places. There he will remain until a mortal woman falls in love with him and he falls in love with her. Should be a piece of cake, right? I mean, he is Zeus, after all, and his prowess with the mortal ladies and his legions of offspring are well known to those who have read any Greek mythology.
It's not going to be as easy as Zeus assumes. Firstly, the woman he has his sights on thinks he’s a grade A pig and makes no bones about it when she meets him the first time at his Vegas resort, Tartarus (insert eye roll here, I know, but it really works). Secondly, his father Kronos manages to break out of his prison and is determined to destroy Mount Olympus this time and keep Zeus stuck on Earth. You remember Kronos right? He swallowed his children to include Zeus, Poseidon and Hades and if he hadn’t been stopped the first time would have likely destroyed all of humanity. Excellent villain casting here as he is a truly despicable character.
Though this book is quite predictable from the true identities of certain characters that Karly meets to her discovering the truth of who Zeus really is to the epic battle back on Olympus, it does prove to be entertaining. The author takes a few liberties with which I was OK.
My Final Verdict: Overall, this book is a good start to a series that consists of five books. I am unable to determine if this is a series that should be read in order, but if you are like me, you will want to read them in order to ensure any past references are not confusing. I recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance and fantasy genres.
I would give this book 3 and a half stars, Zeus was a good story but some things i felt could have been better. I couldnt really get in to the story untill half way through, The chemistry between Karly and zeus wasnt great to begin with, i didnt really feel it, i couldnt get how zeus went from wanting a one night stand to loving her so quick and how she went from hating him to loving him so quick, for a god that has been around for a long time sometimes i found him childish and annoying. It took me a while to actually start to like Karly, she could be annoying at times and wasnt very likable. So i gets to about 55% on my kindle and it changed, the chemistry got better, i started to like them more and really got in to the story. I loved the fighting scene with the gods, it was well thought out and totally made the story jump out at you. I will say that i got this book free as the author was giving it free for mothers day but i would have payed for it and i will read the next one in this series, i think with time this author will just get better and better.
Overall: Zeus decides that because he is King and doesn't want to be married to Hera anymore, he divorces her. That doesn't go well with the other Gods and The Fates punish him by sending him to Earth for 9 years and he has to find a woman that loves him as much as a loves her. Karly is finally leaving home to go to school in Sin City. She moves into an apartment with 3 sisters that are eerily close to each other. Her second night in town, the girls talk her into going out to the club with them and she agrees. While there she meets Zeus, but he is crude and she slaps him and leaves. The next day he shows up with roses, but she tosses them to the ground and walks away from him. Zeus has a tantrum, but after talking to her roommate, he tries again and wows Karly. After this point Zeus and Karly get to know each other and she supports him while Kronos is trying to take over and his ex tries to warn her off. After he charms her family, she falls in love with him and a big battle ensues. In the end they get their HEA and you get a sneak preview of the next book.
Pros: I loved watching Zeus go from a pig-headed idiot to someone that was deserving of the love that was being given to him without any strings attached. I loved how the author weaved some of the myths of ancient Greece into the story to add that extra touch to it. All around, I just loved this book!
Cons: I personally didn't have any cons with this story.
Update changing rating from a 4 stars to 4.5 stars
So because i always like to complain before my reviews how i stupidly started to assign songs to books that is how this review is going to begin. I chose for this song, "I Will Possess You Heart" by Death Cab For Cutie, and i recommend if you are going to go look up this song, look for the radio edition, i love the original but i am not shitting you it has a 4 minute intro, the song is like 8 minutes long, and the intro is all instrumental and its not really needed...still i love Death Cab and i love this song. And it really shows off the beginning of this book...
Okay so first thoughts: I love everything Greek Mythology i think its like the coolest stuff ever, yes i am sadistic so you gotten know that right off the bat. Anyways i was excited when i found this because i know that the Gods seem to becoming the "next" big thing but some authors aren't just doing it right... and that sounds mean but i tried out the big named one, the Goddess Test and i couldn't do, damn i walked away so fast you didn't know i was there, but then awhile ago i stumbled across Persephone <-- its a great book if you are looking for another Greek God story... anyways moving on from that. My point was that i appreciated that this book actually did stick with some of the true myths and not the glorified versions of them.
Alright now more in depth thoughts on the plot:
Oh kay....where to start. I am going to get the ugly part out of the way first and foremost, here is where i tell you why it got a 4 not a 5. Well there were times i that i found this very almost run of the mill romance, and thats not to say that it was bad or anything it was just okay i have seen this before. At the end of it i just kept thinking to myself, what made this so different from any other relationship that i have read about. Well there were plenty of things that were different, and i will admit that is something that won me over as well, because it wasn't a soulmate rule, and it wasn't BAM hot man walks in asks you to bed and ya do it! NAH not our girl, she is a classy lady with a lot of spunk! She...i'll talk about her later. So now back to my original point i was really pleased that the author took the time for them to fall in love. YAY for FALLING in love and not supernatural means to an end. though i do love the supernatural sometimes its nice to see it grow, and here is where i think my other problem was, that they didn't seem to have any problems i guess in the grand scheme of things this is where my first comment comes in, i wanted them to have minor arguments i didn't want it to be so damn easy! wow... i really am evil...eh i will live with it, have the for past 21 years, whats another couple decades right ;) Near the end is where all the realllll meaty action is, and that is not say that the beginning didn't have me hooked line and sinker because it did. It was an fast paced read and i don't think there were many times, maybe besides the very beginning that i felt like i was forcing myself just to get through it you know? i think you know.
Update: So i re-read this and i am going to disagree whole hardheartedly against what my past self said about this being a run of the mill romance, its far from it, its a beautiful, slow, well developed romance. I loved it! it was even better the second time, full of humor, romantic scenes, understanding and just plain awesome-ness.
Okay so the characters!
Karly: She is our spunky MC i was telling you all about before! She is dangerously awesome. I really liked her because, well besides her being super sheltered, she did stand up for what she believed in, granted i don't quite believe in the same stuff i respect that she did and she stuck with her guns. She was fearless when she needed to be and she stood up to Zeus and didn't fall at his feet the moment she meets him. She keeps him on his toes. There were points like i mentioned she was super sheltered that had me questioning her age at times, she was in the book 21 but she really seemed like she was stepping right out of high school, which i get because she took a couple - four years - off before starting college. But at other times she was really mature, and then sometimes she made this elaborate excuses that even I was going, are you kidding me? Even i couldn't make something like that up! and i have some weird ass ideas...anyways letting that go....
Zeus: Well first off he is a total ass, and if a man did what he did to me when i first met him i would have done a lot more than slap him that is for sure. I really liked that the beginning, began with his POV and ended with his POV, but in the prologue in his POV he seemed like a child throwing a fit it as annoying as hell and i was scared that i would have to deal with this complain-y little man child as the MG (main guy). Luckily he turned out to be very persistent, very arrogant, had a bit of a tempter problem, and then yup so if you aren't in love yet just you wait! I thought that his change in character came all to abruptly, i think that it could have been drawn out more and we could have seen the changes better than just going like BAM he is a new man after Karly stood up to him. Though he does change, he gets a sense of humor, and he is very protective of his girl. He also has those moments where all girls probably swoon a little even if they hate children like me but the way he was....oh i am getting off point again my bad.
Update: After second read through: Past me i have to disagree, i think that while he does change, we never really knew the "old" Zeus, we only know the "stories" everyone says about him, in fact he is ridiculously charming, persistent, and in the end enchanting. He was fantastic! A beautiful character that really you have to pay attention to what he does, and what he says, he is always on top of things *suggestive eyebrows*
The roommates: Who if you don't figure out the moment you see them who they are well um you need to brush up on your greek mythology don't you. anyways they disappear after they serve there one purpose, and that is a little upsetting but whatever. i suppose i will get over it.
The ending: Conclusive, sort of....i am hoping that the next one - if there is a next one - is going to be about a different brother/God and i know that makes me one of those people who like the series that does the different character for different books but i at first hated them then grew to love them but i think that it would be best for these books because I believe that Zeus' and Karly's story is done.
Alrightie its lunch time so i am going to make this quick if you liked this blah blah blah check out other books that i reviewed, blah blah blah, i do mostly indie books, blah blah blah, we appreciate you blah blah blah no i am not crazy and referring to the voices in my head as "we" i am talking about my friend who does compt. fiction reviews, blah blah blah here is the link: http://theviolethourbookreviews.wordp...
It has been a long time since I have been this geeked about a new to me author/series. This book had romance, some adventure, a bit of mystery, and the gods and it takes place in Vegas. what more could I ask for? Karly is young and taking her life into her own hands and by doing so ends up living in Vegas with 3 intriguing roommates. While there she meets Zeus, who is at this point no one I would even begin to want to know. Somehow, this beautiful love grows between them as they both discover who they really are and who they want to be. I could not put this book down and I hope that it is going to be a series. It would have been really easy for a romance in Sin City to turn very "sinful", but the author kept it clean, yet how. Not an easy thing to do. If you like modern day stories with the gods and a sweet romance, this is definitely for you.
Modern day Mythology is always fun. Kamery Solomon brings Old World and New World into one fun read. The story revolves around Karly, a naive 21 year old artist, who is just now venturing out on her own. Where does she go, Sin City. Where does everyone end up in Las Vegas eventually, a club. This is where Karly and Zeus meet and where Zeus acts like a complete jerk. Fortunately, Zeus is able to redeem himself and Karly falls for him. There is an undercurrent of mystery through the book having to do with Zeus's family and the end of the book brings answers to Karly's questions.
I believe that as Kamery Solomon grows as a writer, so will her story telling abilities which is why this is not a 5 star review. I also believe that we will continue to receive good, fun reads from this author. I was given a copy of Zeus in exchange for an honest review.
This is just the book I needed to get me out of a reading slump. On the third (whatever day that was) I watched Hercules. The Disney movie. I know but after that I wanted another Greek mythology re-telling. Now this is stretching it a lot but I still love this book to this day. I love the romance and the humor. I love seeing the Gods and Goddesses that I loved and still love reading about. I love the family aspect. This book over all just makes me so happy and is a really great pick-me-up.
When I first read the book's synopsis, I had high expectations because I always loved reading Greek mythology story in a modern setting. However, after reading it, I was disappointed as its kind of felt rush, not much twist in it, and its lacking of emotion had made it hard for me to connect to the story. I hope it would get better in the next book, Poseidon.
Zeus is the first book within The God Chronicles. I think this book did the impossible. It made me like a version of Zeus. Which, yes, does leave a bitter taste in my mouth right now. I'd like to thank Karly for falling in love with him. As well as making him do the impossible: fall in love with a human. Will be on the lookout for the next book!
I was given a copy of Zeus by Kamery Solomon in exchanged for a unbiased and honest review. This was my most ABSOLUTE FAVORITE book that I have read in a long time. I am a enthralled by mythology and Kamery captured my attention from the very first page. Her stimulating imagery brought each character into a three dimensional vision. I was able to see clear pictures of Zeus and Karly. Their relationship didn't start in the most conventional ways but true love is something that not even the fates could deny. You couldn't help but be engrossed into their very tender moments even just watching reruns of Hercules. He seemed genuine in what she was interested in and made it his mission to prove himself to her over and over. Although he was fighting within himself for not being able to protect Olympus he knew what needed to be. This was such a heartfelt and endearing story that mixed some mythology and true love I don't think I will ever find such a story that didn't ruin the fantasy of the Gods. I absolutely loved this quote, "When I saw you playing in the backyardon Thanksgiving, I knew. I knew you were my guy and that I would never want another my entire life." In that quote you could feel all the emotion the author was pouring into this fantastic romantic adventure that Zeus and Karly were to embark on for their immortal lives. I was unable to put this book down from beginning to end and I definitely want more. Thank you for sharing this immensely romantic journey.
Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a total sucker for stories with a mythological plot so it's understandable that I didn't hesitate to get this book and read it asap. And I'm thrilled to say that I loved it. Loved every second of it. Especially how modern it was. Usually god related stories are either still a little outdated with the characters or are told poorly, but this one was awesome; modern, good romance, good characters.
I hope we see more of Zeus and Karly and their relationship.
totally predictable. I hated the lead character with her self righteous ramblings. Zeus of course was rich, you know cuz when you get stripped of powers and thrown to earth you of course become a rich businessman. I was so happy it ended I think I shed a tear.
I liked the plot there was one thing I really didn’t like though was the skipping of time without any indication it had happened that was a little confusing sometimes but all around a great book I’d recommend to anyone.
Zeus is a paranormal romance by new author Kamery Solomon. It's about a young woman named Karly, who is a little naïve and sheltered from the world. Against her parent's wishes, she moves to Las Vegas to attend an art school. She moves into a place with a few roommates, and they take her out and show her around. She ends up meeting a handsome guy named Zeus, who ends up being a cocky jerk. She isn't a one-night stand kind of girl, so she kicks him to the curb.
Zeus isn't used to women saying “no” to him. He is a total player, and I think he was stunned to find a woman that didn't instantly fall for all his charms. He is determined for her to go out with him. His personality practically does a 180 overnight. That part didn't feel real to me. He went from being a player to wanting only Karly rather quickly. I think it would have been better if his personality change would have spanned a longer period of time. He ended up being a great guy and won Karly's heart – though he was keeping many secrets.
Zeus and Karly had some good chemistry and sort-of-steamy moments. Their relationship was very, very tame if you know what I mean. If you're looking for a steaming hot adult romance, then this isn't the book for you. If you love sweet, clean romances – then you will probably love this.
Sometimes, Even The Gods Can't Change Their Fate...
I cannot say how much I enjoyed this book, it was amazing, it had all the right amounts of romance, all the greatness one expects & it had the most unique depicting of the King of the Gods that I've ever read or seen before!
As a character, Zeus was both charming & devastating, he made me smiling like Tartarus & want to scream at him at the same time, I loved the idea of Zeus falling in love, it was unexpected & surprising, took my breath away & was downright spellbinding.
Karly as a protagonist was the coolest girl ever, I loved her naturalism, her ability to make me laugh & the cuteness she shared, I adored the way she fell for Zeus & was just outstanding & the ending was about as beautiful as it could get.
I knew instantly exactly who Karly's three roommates were they were nice & wonderful although I would've liked some more of them near the end but I guess since the action came towards the ending, there really wasn't much they would fit in to have done.
I knew instantly that 'Niki' was the Goddess of Victory -- Nike.
Bottom-Line: A Must Read & Must Recommend for a Fresh Taste At Greek Gods & Romance Unlike what is expected for the King of all Gods!
Zeus is banished for breaking a vow made on the River Styx. The fates ban him for 9 years to Earth, strip him of his powers, and say the only way to make it back to Olympus is to find someone who loves him and someone he loves back. They also mention that if he ever cheats on this person, he will permanently lose his powers.
Since Zeus is not loyal to any one woman, he spends the nine years in meaningless flings and the fates intervene to help him. They find Karly and arrange for her to meet Zeus even though he has already been banished for over 9 years. They do this because Kronos is attempting to take over Olympus.
An easy read that is predictable and with boring characters. They have no depth. I really don't like how the author completely changed Zeus' personality in order to make her story work. I have no desire to read any others in the series.
Huge amount of slut shaming from Karly's point if view. "She isn't one of those girls"
Zeus' "courtship" of Karly was hugely problematic. He literally stalks her. She initially reacted normally but I would have called the police, when he didn't leave when she refused his flowers and ran into her house.
He vandalizes her car so she has to accept a ride with him. God knows why anyone would actually accept a ride from him.
He then forces her to accept a date with him while being a naked life model and forcing her to look at his penis when she is clearly uncomfortable with it.
This is is not a romantic courtship! The only reason this is even remotely romantic is because he's good-looking. Which is bullshit.
Her reaction to him telling her he was a God was pretty realistic though.
DNF I tried but this book reads like fairly pedestrian fan fiction. I can't imagine Zeus, king of the Greek gods, even with his powers stripped, acting like someones boyfriend. He'd be plotting and scheming to get his status back. How is it that his powers have been stripped but he's as wealthy as Bill Gates? Read some Greek mythology, this character is not Zeus. He never played fair, was careless with the truth, was selfish and dictatorial and couldn't be faithful if his life depended on it. Zeus was tough with a will of iron, this Zeus is a wimp. Karly seems immature and just plain boring. I can' recomend this.
I just loved this book. I have always been interested in the Greek gods so that made me give this book a shot and I was not disappointed. I like the story line the author went with to teach the almighty Zeus a lesson about life and love. And two thumbs up to Karly for being so strong thru it all. I will definitely be following this series
Karly is a bit of a prude and Zeus is a big child playing at being an adult.
Zeus' whole character screamed stalker. Karly should have called the cops instead of giving him a chance. He creeped me out from the beginning and never won me over.
Not at all what I was expecting and a major let down.
This was great! I was curious to see where the story was going to take me and enjoyed the ride. My only complaint is I wish we had seen the "roommates" after the fight there should have been some sort of resolution with them. I have suggested it to all of the book clubs I belong to be their Z read for the ABC Title challenge!
Just brought it and had it read in a day and I really liked it I love to see how much the both changed through out the book and I liked the three room mates and how they weren't who they said they were
A romance novel is only as good as its heroine, and that's where this novel completely falls apart. Important Reminder: any book where the main character is addressed as being "not like other girls" is sure to be a complete flop.
