Once again Nalini Singh proves with her newest release, Archangel Shadow why she's my favorite paranormal romance/urban fantasy author.

So I know I said that I don't like angels in Urban Fantasy in my last review, but I should have qualified that statement: if the angels are simply winged, humanoid beings without ties to religion (and only called "angels" for lack of a better description), then I like them juuuuust fiiiiiiine. And if they happen to be the angels in Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter books, then I flat-out L-O-V-E them.

So I had two options for a review title in my head when I sat down to write this. My original one was a little...longer. I went with the above option (obviously), but here is what I originally wanted to go with:

3 - 3.5 Raphael & Elena, no Dimitri & Honor, no wait Illium & Aodhan, no hold on I mean Ransom & Nyree, oops no I meant Tanu and Avri, oh wait actually Titus & Keir ok I mean definitely Naasir...Okay fine, everyone OTHER than Janvier & Ashwini STwith:

We have been waiting for a year to witness the aftermath of two Archangels fighting over New York. Raphael's light beat the hell out Lijuan's darkness but the Archangel of Death though beaten isn't yet dead. The town has gained a respite. To heal its wounds and bond tighter than ever.

So, it's Aswini and Janvier's time. To let themselves fall in love and share their deepest, darkest fears.

“I’ll show you things that’ll make you laugh in delight, scream in passion, cry for the sheer joy of it.”

Before starting this book I was more excited of the idea that we will get glimpses of my all time favourite couple, Raphael and Elena, more than reading about Ash and Janvier give in to each other. But Nalini never stops surprising me. She takes us from the skies down to Earth, to the heart of the territory where basic instincts rule and people are easy and sometimes willing prey to predators. This is were Ash lets all her shields and hesitations go and surrenders herself totally to Janvier. Sensual in their passion and heart-achingly beautiful I LOVED their story. It was indeed a break we needed after the battle of New York and the rising threats on the horizon.

But the stars of this book, were the guest-stars. The Legion with their loyalty, Caliane as a loving mother-in-law, Keir with his playboy ways, Titus the honorable warrior, Aodhan the diamond Angel, Dimitri and Honor, Ilium, my precious Bluebell and of course my new favourite, the one and only, I-have-no-idea-what-the-hell-he-hides, Naasir!

Best fantasy romance series and personal favourite, I can't recommend these books enough. I am hopelessly in love!

*pouting* I wanted Ilium! Or Aodhan! Hell, I needed more Raphael....
But OK, it's Nalini Singh's book it's bound to be awesome!!!

UPDATE from Nalini's blog

The book will feature Ash and Janvier from "Angels' Pawn" as main characters, but it will also feature Elena and Raphael (after the events in "Archangel's Legion", they have a lot to deal with!).

This is a tightly connected world and group of characters, so we're also going to see most of the usual suspects, including the hunters and many of the Seven (Naasir, too ;-)).

A buddy read with the Wednesday UF group at BB&B! We need to get our hunting on!!!

This was supposed to be a buddy read. For those of you who are not familiar with the concept, a BR is a book reading club, only on line, and several people decide on a book, a date and read it, while making comments and discussing the said book. What makes it a buddy read as opposed to a read along is the act of discussing and communication. Well, I sucked at being a good buddy this

I was bored for the most part, the heroine's non-stop angsting and self-pity was off putting. On top of that, the romance and main arc were nothing I hadn't read about countless times before, it was the same old, same old. There were some good parts though, I loved the Guild Hunter world and the majority of the secondary characters.

-What's what: Ashwini/Janvier's story. POV's from Elena/Raphael and other characters as well. The story mainly followed Ash/Janvier's romance whilst they investig

You know how there are certain series that you just love so much that you know you are going to give each book all the stars? This is one of mine, along with Kate Daniels. There are just some characters and worlds that burrow under your skin and give you an itch that only they can scratch.

I know, I come up with beautiful analogies.

This world where there are angels (but they are more like another race - not heaven's angels) and vampires is so awesome. I almost want to live there. Well, as long

"5 Fantastic, sexy Cajun stars!"

The wonderful thing about reading Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series is that no matter if it's been 3 months or a year since you've read her last book, by the time you've finished the first page, you're transported right back into her fantastic world of cruel, cold angels; ruthless, sexy vampires; and kick-ass, sassy, warrior-hunters.

Ms Singh's world-building, characters, and stories are amazing, addictive, creative, memorizing, thrilling, dangerous, and sexy.
This addition to the series is no exception.

The angels, vampires, hunters and humans are all dealing with the aftermath of the big war that just occurred. Raphael, Elena and The Seven are trying to get the city back on its feet and celebrate their victory. But there's some horrific deaths turning up and a new nasty drug on the street that's threatening everything.

As this series gets more advanced, the story line gets more complicated. It is the story of Ashwini (Ash) and Janvier but unfortunately that only accounts for maybe fifty percen
I can't believe that I didn't write an actual review of this book at any point in the last couple years since it's come out. Noticing that is actually one of the reasons that I started on this re-read of the entire series. And it's been so worth it. This is the first time I've re-read in a few years and I'm enjoying the series like it's brand new - mostly because since Archangel's Storm, it feels that way to me. I've re-read these later books once at most, and they're still not fully settled in my memory. This is probsince Archangel's ...more
I'm loving Nalini's books and for the past month or so I've been re-reading her Guild Hunter and Psy-Changelings series. I cannot get enough of her amazing plots and the awesome characters. You know you'll get just enough action to satisfy your cravings. And don't even get me started on the romance and wonderful heroes. I mean...yum-yum.

In this book we got to see the aftermath of war and how a new evil threatened to destroy the newly peace and how everyone got involved in solving that problem.

Ashwini and Janvier…YES!!! We are back on track. Okay so I’m straight up going to say that I really prefer the stories that aren’t centered on Elena and Raphael. The stories that have other characters as the main players seem to appeal more to me. That could just be because I we’ve had four stories centered on them or that I struggle with them as a couple sometimes. But Ash and Janvier’s story is too much fun.

Though Ashwini and Janvier's story fell a bit short for me (in comparison to Jason and Mahiya's for example), it was still written by Nalini Singh, which means it was far superior to a lot of things I read.

I didn't enjoy her POV like I thought I would. I liked Janvier. He was funny and dedicatedly sweet to Ash. The best parts of this story for me were the continuation of Elena and Raphael's story and Naasir. Naasir has been a very background character until the last book and I enjoyed his inclusion. You know how Nalini has a way of putting these little interesting tidbits about secondary characters in her books? It's one of the reasons I don't want any of her series to ever be over. She teased us with Ash and Janvier since Angels' Blood and yes, they are finally hooking up! :D

Review @ Vanilla & Spice Books

Nalini gives us the story of Ashwini and Janvier in this installment. It has the trademark formula of a mystery and love set in her Guildhunter world.

Ashwini is Janvier's one and only. Ever since the hunter chased him across the bayous of his homelands he has fallen for her. Nothing like a crossbow at your throat to make you go gaga o
I am officially sold on Ash and Janvier.

I want to weep at how cute and sweet and caring they are to each other.

Here are some of my thoughts:
• Ash is badass. No doubt about that. Her backstory made me feel for her so much.
• Janvier. Ugh. He can’t be anymore perfect. There are no words for him. He is fun-loving and serious at the exact perfect moments for Ash. He certainly supports Ash with both his humor and his deep understanding and acceptance of her. He is so loy

Technically this was Ashwini and Janvier's story. Instead of solely focusing on them, this was more of an update of all the side characters. We also got more of our beloved couple, Raphael and Elena. As much as I love the side characters, this is what I seem to like more with this particular series.

I truly enjoyed each and every character in this book, but some really stood out for me. First of all, Ashwini and Janvier floored me with how devoted they were to each other by the end of this book.

Nalini Singh has built such a fascinating world in this Guild Hunter series. She writes such wonderful descriptions that I get the most vivid images in my head as I read. As we are on book seven of this series, not only do we get a HEA between hunter Ash and Janvier but we also get pages devoted to Raphael and Elena, Dmitiri and Honor and one of my favorites from this book, Naasir. So I’m going to break down the review into segments.

I loved Janvier--sexy, charming and devoted to Ashwini despite her reluctance. There are two secrets in this story, the first is the identity of whoever is leaving dessicated bodies, while the second plot revolves around the romance between Janvier and Ashwini who has a deep secret that prevents her from committing fully to Janvier, despite the very hot attraction between them. “Am I a person, Dmitri? Will you be sad if I die?”

Hardened and cruel though he’d become, the innocent question had shaken him. “Yes,” he’d said, as honest in his answer as Naasir had been in his question. “You are a person. You are Naasir. I’ll lose a piece of me if you die and it’s a piece I’ll never get back.”

Naasir had stared at him for a long time before coming over to hug him. “Okay, Dmitri. I’m sorry. I didn't know I was a person before.”
“Venom has taken Naasir's place temporarily." This time, the amusement that shaped Raphael's lips was acute. "My mother called to ask what else I have in my menagerie."

Elena snorted, in no doubt of Caliane's acerbic tone. "Can you blame her? First you send her a tiger creature who eats people he doesn’t like, and then a vampire with the eyes and fangs of a viper.” She held up a finger. “Oh, and let’s not forget the mortal you keep as a pet.”

“My mother does not consider you my pet, Elena. She is very kind to pets.”

“Oh, ouch!”
