I liked the nice cliffhanger ending, but I could've guessed the ending not being as clear-cut as Carpenter and Harding first thought. Both Jordan and Ellie are tested in this one in different ways but they still are able to come together and have time for their family and have time for their daughter at the end of each day. It was those little moments spread with them fawning over their daughter that made the day worth it. I love that at the end Ellie realizes that Jordan is on to something in regards to her old High School boyfriend, Miles, and that he might not be able to be trusted anymore.
I'm glad to get another offering in this series, but this book didn't really rise to the level of earlier ones that got me hooked on the series. The cases just seemed sorta rushed & incomplete, lacking build up & development, instead just instantaneously wrapping up with Matlock/Perry Mason unrealism.
Another great instalment of Carpenter and Harding. It was really good to get reacquainted with some of my favourite fictional people and see how well they ended after those awful days.
The police bit of the story was good as always, but it felt more like laying the ground for some shit yet to come, especially with the last chapter and I'm here for it.
Barbara Winkes Carpenter/Harding series never disappoints to bring the mysteries and wonderful character development. Ellie and Jordan are two of my favorite main characters. If you love detective series, then you should check out the Carpenter/Harding series.
