This charming flip-over book tells the story of a little girl named Dot who lives in London, far away from her grandmother in New York--who is also named Dot. The pair share more than a name: they also have the same birthday, and they want more than anything to spend the day together. Readers start at one end of the book to learn about how little Dot tries everything to hand-deliver a special card to Grandma Dot. They can then flip over the book to follow Grandma Dot as she takes a trip across the globe to Beijing, Mumbai, and Rome, gathering family members on her way to visit her granddaughter. Everything comes together in the middle.

A flip-over book with half the story being told from one perspective on one side of the book and flip the book over an the story is told from a different perspective with both stories meeting in the middle of the book. A sweet story that's fun to read from both perspectives.

It's Dot's birthday, she and her Grandma Dot share the same birthday but grandma lives in New York and Dot lives in London. Dot makes a card for grandma and wants to get it to her quickly, nothing is quite as quick as she wants. As she's trying to get her card to grandma, there is wonderful surprise!

Grandma Dot wants to spend her birthday with her granddaughter, Dot, but she lives in New York and her granddaughter lives in London. Then Grandma Dot has an idea, she gathers up all of Granddaughter Dot's cousins and they all go visit London.

My kindergartener LOVED this book. Was it the vintage-looking illustrations? The cute story about the girl and her grandma with the same name and the same birthday trying to reach each other across the world? Was it the clever way the book was formatted to tell both sides of the story on opposite sides of the book? All I know is that this book and The Tiny King are the only two out of the hundreds of books that I bring home that she has insisted we need to own.

We, meaning myself and 3.5 year old, absolutely loved this book. We loved the concurrent stories, the illustrations are wonderful and the flip is such a fun innovation. WE highly recommend this one....

I liked this one! I liked the color palette used, I liked the unique format, but most of all I liked that there was a Grandma Dot in the story, because I had a Grandma Dot too (I'm glad she only lived in Casper though instead of New York or London!)

I liked the idea, especially because a lot of new vocabulary was introduced along with different countries, etc., but it just seemed one-dimensional to me.
