Laura Webber is determined to uncover the truth behind her parents' murders. But after being interviewed about the unsolved case, she's abducted and dumped in the Mississippi River with a warning to stop digging up the past. With her life in jeopardy, she knows that her former fiancé, Brad Austin, is the only person she can turn to for help. The cold-case detective has spent years trying to forget Laura, yet he can't turn her away. But before Brad can wrap her in his protection, will their reunion be cut short by a killer threatening to silence Laura forever?
I loved when Brad was waiting in the waiting area of the hospital and Tamika say to him "Don't you want to pray for your friend?" He shook his head and cleared his throat. "I can't do that. I don't know God very well." She patted his arm again and smiled. "That's okay, mister. He knows you."
I like Christian fiction. As a Christian myself, I want to read books where their faith is as important a part of a character as is their love life, their job, their goals and their past. But I also want to read good quality books, and all too often, these two desires are mutually exclusive.
Which is why I am thankful to have come across Sandra Robbins' book, "Dangerous Waters". The storyline was good, the characters believable. They were not (as so often happens in Christian fiction) divided into all Christians being good guys and non Christians wicked. The Christians in this book had flaws, and they were as fallen as the rest of mankind, while there were good guys who weren't believers, too.
I did guess, quite early on, whodunnit, but there was enough action to have me questioning my deductions once or twice before the final showdown. And I was rooting for the hero and heroine from word one. Believe me, that does not always happen.
There were one or two things I didn't like so much - the conversations were, at times, stilted, and I lost count of the times the heroine told the hero she was grateful he was willing to help her. I was ready to shake her and yell, "You said that already. Get on with it!"
Ms Robbins says she considers writing a ministry and I have to say that, for me, it worked. Even though I am a believer, as I read of her characters realising they needed to turn to God more and let him take charge, I was not just thinking "Amen!" but also that it was a lesson I could use. Putting Him first, letting Him take the strain, these are things I need reminding of constantly, and this book did this for me.
Sandra Robbins is an excellent author of romantic suspense; this is the first in a new series of 'cold cases'. Laura needs the assistance of ex-fiancé, a cold-case detective, if she is every able to get justice for her murdered parents - as the questions she has been asking are almost the death - literally - of her. Exciting, suspenseful, hard to put down - races to a pulse-pounding denouement. Highly recommend this clean-read, Christian mystery with hint of romance.
I really enjoyed this book. I sucked me in right from the beginning and keep me guessing who the culprit was the whole time. I was shocked at the end when I found out who was behind everything. Didn't see that one coming!
Ugh. This book couldn't decide whether it was a mystery, Christian fiction, a police procedural, or a love story. It was effectively none of those things for longer than a chapter at a time.
The storyline was good, but the author repeated everything twice, like she was afraid we wouldn't catch what was being said the first time around. It was annoying. And, I knew who the bad guy was from the beginning, so it wasn't very suspenseful.
Laura is determined to find the criminals who killed her parents when she was 10 years old. The more she tries to gain evidence, the more she is threatened. She turns to her friend, Brad, who is a cold case detective. They have had a troubled relationship and she tries to become part of the cold case investigation. The threats against her increase as new evidence is exposed. This is a fast paced story with romance and intrigue. Brad saves her from extreme danger and the villains are exposed and captured. Laura and Brad are brought together and and are committed in their love. A fast paced story.
Great story but getting kind of tired of reading this particular line of books. I start seeing a certain repetitiveness of wording. Something most would ignore but I always pick up on it and I think I can write it better...but I never sit down to write so I should just shut up about that. The story is great but I picked up on things about what is going to happen with some of the characters, still, there was a great plot twist I didn't pick up on and that was pretty good.
A lot of times when you read a book it’s very predictable this one absolutely is not the writer is amazing I believe this is the first book I read by her and I pray there are many more to come if you have not read books by this author and you like Christian fiction you really need to read her writing
I liked how Brad and Laura found their way through their history and back to each other. I thought the twists were good, but could have been foreshadowed better. I also didn't really like that the original break-up seemed to be completely Laura's fault. While she comes to terms with her short-comings, Brad doesn't seem to grow as much.
3.5 stars. As other reviewers stated, there were definitely some repetitive parts and I didn’t really connect to the characters. I knew exactly who was responsible for the crimes and completely guessed correctly. I did enjoy some parts of the book and felt the descriptions were well written and I could imagine the scenes playing out in my mind.
This is the 4th book I read by Sandra Robbins. This book's storyline was okay. Laura's character was okay. Brad's character was okay. The ending was okay. I wish this story had action & suspense without these it made the story a little boring.
Laura and Brad have been in love since they were 14. High school and college sweethearts but then Laura felt the need to get away from her bad memories and leaves town, breaking their engagement. Six years later she's back in town and Brad has been put in charge of Cold Cases for the police department. The murder of Laura's parents 20 years earlier is his first case to consider and after Laura does an interview in tv, all heck breaks loose. Together they work on the case. If you've read Sandra's other books, you are familiar with Laura's brother Mark from 'Fatal Disclosure.' Very good story.
The story is typical of these books. They are faith based. This one actually surprised me at the end. I just didn't see the people as part of a mob. Laura and Brad. Laura's parents were killed when she was 10. Brad was her sweetheart, they were engaged. It is now 19 years later and Brad is a police man looking into Cold Cases, like the bomb that killed Laura's parents.
I really enjoyed this book. I love reading these Love Inspired Suspense books. This story is full of intense drama, tender moments, and scenes that tug at your heart strings.
