Tracey West is the New York Times bestselling author of Dragon Masters, a series in the Scholastic Branches line. She has written more than 400 books for kids, including the Pixie Tricks series and the Underdogs series with Kyla May.
Some readers also know Tracey for writing books based on animation such as Pokémon and LEGO Ninjago.
She currently lives in the western Catskills of New York with her husband, Bill; their adopted dogs; and a whole mess of chickens.
In the world of Ninjago, there is always something going on. While the Ninja seek to train Lloyd on how to capture the essence of Spinjitsu, Lord Garmadon is trying to cause even more trouble. He accesses an old pirate crew with a secret weapon that has come into his possession. With the new crew, headed by Captain Soto, Lord Garmadon is sure that he will soon control all of Ninjago City. However, the Ninja soon arrive to take matters into their own hands. With a little help, Captain Soto is defeated and flees and leaves Lord Garmadon to rush off. It would seem the Ninja may have a new ally in their ongoing battle to overthrow the evil powers in Ninjago City. Neo liked the story and is always interested to see the new adventures that await him as we continue to tackle many of the books in this extensive series.
Possibly the best Ninjago early reader for sheer outlandishness. But if you're reading these in chronological order, there's a huge time jump over between Books #5 (early season 1) and #6 (early season 2, so they skipped over the great devourer, the Samurai X mystery, etc.). None of the stuff they skipped is explained so be prepared to roll with it. Lloyd has gone from potential villain... to the chosen one! But he's still a little kid in training to be a ninja. This book introduces recurring characters Dareth and Captain Soto and is the first kids book with Garmadon. It's a wild, enjoyable and hilarious adventure.
I really wish Lego would have made early readers age appropriate. My boys are age 5 and just reading. This book has the words hate and stupid in it. Seriously, for a 5 year old? Please stop! I know they hear these words at school and I will have to teach them not to use these words and I also know this is a great teaching opportunity as a parent, however I won't be buying anymore of this series. Too bad because my boys LOVE Lego. :(
This series was Johnny's choice but let me say, it is less than optimal literature. Transitions are non-existent, plot development is jumpy and there is no clear indication in the books to determine how to read these in order. But he was thrilled, did his own predictions, was intrigued by the illustrations. My guess is he would give it 4 or 5 stars.
AD The author is Tracey West. This book is about four ninja. There names are kai cole jay zane and there,s one more. Lloyd. they fight scelotins stone man and ghost. one of the guys is a sameri. I like this book because I like the show. I would recommend my friend would like this my faveirt part is when they use there powers wich is fire ice rock lighting. they can turn into a tornado.
2013 Fantasy This book will appeal to the Second and Third Grade age group and it has quite a bit of context. This would be a good builder book into more action chapter books. Fun to follow the LEGO characters and the Green Ninja with him just starting out.
I was tolerating this book, for Riley's sake. But when the ninjas broke a gum ball machine on the pirate ship, I was done. The four headed dragon made more sense.
