I really loved this story the characters are HOTT, the hole story line was great and I mean come on it's about demons, angels, magic, and loads of fighting!!! what's not to love about that? The author really did a wonderful job writing this amazing story. I liked how it had just about everything from the paranormal world mixed into it. This is a must read!!!!

*** I received this story for free in exchange for an honest review, see more of my review @ http://jmhoward2007.blogspot.com on 3-31-14***

This book starts you in the middle of quite a traumatic scene and really gives you a hero you can stand behind. The protagonist, Jade can a bit ballsy at times, but its a nice change to the usual dull as dishwater and twice as soppy female leads that can end up in fantasy titles.

The book moved at a nice pace, and I finished quickly (which is always a good sign for me as a reader) It kind of reminded me of the Karen Marie Moning Fae series – gutsy gal can see things that others can’t, gets lost i

Awakened drops you right into the middle of the action. The story starts right out with a bang, is what I mean. It was a little confusing at first, but then again that just helped me connect with the main character, Jade, that much better. She was just as confused as I was. She didn't know what was going on and it must have been so scary for her to be attacked and then transported to a strange new land. After the initial shock, the world that Kriston Johnson created started to be described and t ...more

This book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I originally started reading this book more than a year and a half ago. The plan was to have it read and reviewed by April 1st, 2014, which was the requested review by date for this review copy. The obviously didn’t happen. I started this book about a dozen times and it just never happened for me. Even just now, I basically had to force myself to press on and it still took me more than two weeks to actually read it. I just

I'll be honest. It took me awhile to get into reading "Awakened" by Kriston Johnson. It is the first book in her new series, "The Legends of Elyndia", and although it might have started slow (at least in my opinion), it did pick up toward the second half and left me in a place where I would be interested in reading the next book when it is released.

One big reason why it took me so long to get invested in "Awakened"

As a girl who can see demons, Jade is an outcast among her peers. One day, she discovers why. In an attack on her grandfather’s home, she is whisked away to the realm of Elyndia where magic and evil await.

I loved the premise for this story. There is a lot of originality here, and the world is developed nicely. There are some interesting rock creatures (which I would have like seeing more of), as well as giant spiders and all manner of fae. There are also elves, and their reasons for staying most

First, thing first, can I direct your attention to the cover? I have to tell you how much I love it. I don't know what it is, but it is definitely part of what drew me to be part of this Awakened blog tour. And then the description for the book sounds interesting no? Well if we're done admiring the cover, which by the way, I am not, we'll move on.

I think for the most part, this will be a rather quick review. I'll be honest with you, I've given the book a 4/5. However, I don't think I've gotten f

This cover screams: READ ME NOW! doesn’t it? I was drawn in before I knew what the book was about, though it’s obvious that Awakened fits right into the fantasy genre. And fantasy you shall receive!

Our main character is Jade, a seventeen-year-old seemingly normal girl, living with her grandfather, Walter, and his assistant, Maggie. We are introduced to Jade’s ability to see demons in the first few pages of the book. Afte

There is an attack on her grandfather’s home and she is then taken away to the realm of Elyndia where all her answers will await, as well as magic and evil.

Awakened starts right with some action, which I liked, as it sucked me right into the story. Us readers also discover everything at the same pace as Jade does. I was a bit confused at first, but th

Did I enjoy this book: I really wanted to. But I didn’t. I found myself skimming the book because it just wasn’t holding my interest.

Here’s the thing, this book has a lot of potential. It just didn’t deliver. For me, it seemed like every YA fantasy/paranormal/romance cliche and plot point are jammed into this book. You have the young girl who has no idea who/what she is. Her parents are gone. She accidentally casts a spell or conjures a demon or something. Then, there is a love interest. And fig

This was a really nice fantasy novel. With just the right amount of darkness to keep it from being too goody-goody, but not being too dark that it might scare some people away. I enjoyed the story and the range of characters was great!

This book mainly took place in Elyndia, a magical world parallel to the earth accessible through portals. I was very interested in Elyndia and all it's various creatures, towns and peoples and was very excited

Awakened, the story of Jade, a girl who was just trying to make it through highchool without anyone causing trouble or sending her back to a shrink over the otherwise not too horribly-unusual detail that she kinda sorta sees demons starts out with an average day of drama filled school and goes down hill rapidly when her makeshift family is attacked in an abduction attempt and Jade is pulled into another realm by her would be assassin. From there, it doesn't really let up until the end.

A tough talking seventeen year old. A magical grimoire. Another realm. A unique talent. A great cover. These are some of the things I found in Kriston Johnson's YA fantasy, Awakened. Jade is cool, sassy, and totally confused. Literally tossed into a magical world she didn't know about, she still gets her sass on and takes care of herself. She unknowingly spoke an incantation she read from a book and opened up a can of magical whoop.

Jade lives with her grandfather who runs an antiques shop. But t

Awakened was a pleasant surprise, the action begins from the very beginning and we, readers, discover everything at the same pace as Jade -our MC- does which is, at least for me, pretty cool.
And Jade is a strong girl with a lot of attitude that even in the circumstances she finds herself in she doesn't hide and tries to figure things out as best as she can.

And this is the thing: we don't really know what's going on during most of the book and even at the end there are still a lot of questions th

An imaginative tale filled with magic, heroes and demons, twists and turns and a heroine whose world is turned upside down.

Jade was a great heroine. She's thrown into a new world, she learns that nothing is what she thought it was, and everything and everyone is against her but she still keeps going, she never gives up. She's loyal to her friends, she's willing to sacrifice herself for them. There's also a little bit of a love story, one that kind of sneaks up on Jade. But like everything else i

With its gorgeous and eye-catching cover, "Awakened" is a wonderful start to Kriston Johnson's The Legends of Elyndia Series. It's filled with creativity and imagery. It has adventure, magic, excitement, romance and some likeable, kick-ass characters, and of course, evil bad guys who want to ruin everything for everyone. The storyline might feel a little confusing at the beginning, but keep reading because things will start to fall into place. As the book progresses, there are several interestin ...more

An interesting tale woven with mystery, magic and romance. This was a difficult book for me to review for multiple reasons. It had a strong intro which kept me reading but there was something story wise that threw me off.

Some of the pros include Characters, Storyline and Magic.

And I really enjoyed the ending of the story.

Some of the cons are the inconsistencies and Story Composition.

But all in all it’s a pretty solid story once you get past the minor set backs that I encountered. Personally,

Usually when I read books the most important thing to me is the characters. When I read fantasy though the most important thing to me is the world the author creates, the more magic there is the better. Awakened is the kind of fantasy book I love to read. My top three reasons why I loved this book were 1. there's enough action/ adventure to keep me from getting bored 2. I pretty much loved all character (even the bad ones) 3. there's just a tiny bit of romance added mostly towards the end becaus ...more

I had a lot of trouble putting this book down. Jade was an enjoyable protagonist who discovered her life was far more interesting than she'd ever imagined. I was immediately pulled into the action, and I couldn't wait to see where this adventure led me next.

The creative world of Elyndia is filled with fascinating characters, fantastical creatures, and unusual landscape. Surprises erupted at every turn. I loved how the story didn't follow a typical fantasy pattern and mirrored life with twists a

Disclaimer - I know Kriston and I know how hard she worked on this book over the years in order to be able to tell the story she saw unfolding in her mind. 4 stars for having the discipline and drive to get it down on paper and write a good story as well.

I found that it was just missing... something. Maybe it's because sometimes I found Jade frustrating? But the idea of Elementals is really fascinating, so you might want to check it out if you're a PNR fan.

Mini review to come.

Her home rests at the fringe of an old growth forest that she insists is the home of Jason Voorhees. Her husband thinks that’s a ridiculous assumption, because everyone knows it’s really Bigfoot.
