Cute chapter book for kids. The characters were interesting, and the story moved quickly. Just enough mystery, suspense and action to keep the story moving along without being scary, gross or offensive.
Apparently this is a follow up book to Shadow Over Mousehaven Manor. I never read that book, and I understood this story pretty well. It was another library sale find that I thought looked adorable.
This is a great story for kids who like a little mystery and intrigue but don't want the scary stuff. A mysterious package arrives at the doorstep of Minnabell Mouse, and she wants to protect everyone she loves from its repercussions.
This book is illustrated by Stella Ormani and she does a lovely job lending illustrations that help move the story along.
This is a charming early reader chapter book. The action moves along and would keep a child's interest while the characters are fun. Anyone living in Central Illinois should love this book as Mousehaven Manor "exists" in the prairies not far from Springfield. The descriptions, from mouse-view, of the prairies and even the Sangamon River were delightful.
I liked it at the end because the two mice named Minnabell and Cousin Violet Mae killed the vampire bat named Count Von Flittermouse that is a shape changer.
