A tragic accident has stolen Joel Stanfield's ability to love. But he can't escape the memory of the unforgettable kiss he shared with his sexy coworker, Ava Carson. When she leaves his company, he shows up on her doorstep, determined to burn her out of his memory with a week of scorching passion. Ava can't resist the temptation of hot sex with Joel, on a private island. After the temporary affair, she hopes to be free of her obsession so she can find love, but she's in for the shock of a lifetime when she finds she's pregnant. Will Ava find a way to heal Joel and unlock his heart, or will Joel lose his second chance at love and family?
I’m on a kick of reading just okay books. A WEEKEND TEMPTATION was another one. Although it didn’t rock my socks, it was a pleasant read.
Ava Carson had a plan in life. Start a career, find a guy husband and father potential, have babies and then go back to career. When she puts in her two week notice to boss Joel Stanfield, she’s ready to start guy hunting. The thing is, she’s found that guy in Joel.
Joel Stanfield has blocked his emotions since the loss of his wife Elizabeth and the baby he didn’t know about. He’s put up a wall and doesn’t let anyone in. Yet, after a one time kiss with assistant Ava, he’s been distracted.
Now, since she’s been gone, he can’t get her out of his mind. Using his wealth, he convinces her a week spent getting the other out of their system is the perfect way for them both to move on.
Skipping over the week, although apparently it was very fiery, Ava finds herself pregnant. Both she and Joel have found someone they can settle with, but once Ava gives him the news, he demands she marry him.
Ava wants love and Joel can’t give her that, but he begins showing her what he can give her. Slowly he breaks down her defenses, although they were that thick. Ava loves Joel and finally trust him not to treat her like his father treated her family.
However, when the unfortunate happens and she loses the baby, her insecurities come back with the help of a jealous ex. Despite Joel’s assurance he now wants a family with her and won’t leave her, Ava decides love is what she wants, and what he can’t give.
While separated, Joel tries to put back his emotionless wall, but when jumping from his plane, he realizes Ava has gotten into his heart.
Finding her at her brothers’, Joel tells Ava what she’s been wanting to hear. He loves her. Now, two months after their wedding, Ava shares her news; she’s pregnant with multiples.
I enjoyed this story although this sentence was a bit misleading, "A tragic accident has stolen Joel Stanfield's ability to love." Other than that I enjoyed it a great deal.
It's the classic girl falls in love with her boss, but at least in Ava's case she tried to fight it. In the way that we all try to get over someone. Need I say more.
I love alphas, but a few times there Joel was a little bit too domineering for my taste. That's saying a lot considering the type of books I usually read. That being said, I did understand why Joel acted the way he did in certain situations considering his past. He did like most men do with their emotions, internalized them instead of expressing them.
Ava & Joel: Ava is Joel's Secretary at the opening of the book who he had kissed once in a drunken stooper. She fell in love that night & he in lust. You see Joel has a secret in his past the won't allow him to love again & open his heart to another. Yet, he can marry a socialite to further his business, have regular sex with by marrying her & won't want children. So, when he becomes engaged to this woman Ava resigns knowing she can't watch the man she love anymore especially now with this other woman who now be planning their wedding. But, he won't let her quit so he thinks. After Ava is gone sveral weeks he meets with & convinces her to come away with him for mind blowing sex to his island so they can get each other out of each others minds for just one week. Well, guess what happens?...read and find out. I enjoyed this book the chemistry of the characters was believe for the most part(heck your talking billionaire what do I know?) I read for free on amazon.
Ava is crazy in love with her millionaire boss. Joel is the typical millionaire who has a horrid past that has his heart trapped and doomed from loving anyone. That is until he takes a chance on Ava. Typical romance story set up but with very charming likeable characters – although the typical female reader will probably want to castrate Joel a few times during the course of the book, but in the end his compassion and love shine through.
If you are looking for a quick simple love story this is the book for you. You will travel with Ava and Joel to his private island where they will try to get each other out of their systems – as if that ever works. Then you will travel with them as they discover their true feelings for each other and work through Joel’s past and commitment issues.
Secret baby in this contemporary office romance. I did respect the fact that the rich boss Joel Stanfield did not want to fraternize with his attractive Assistant which was very professional, although he did get into the grey area of creepy when he had a PI follow Ava around after she quit the job. Ava Carson know what she wants and it is a loving husband and children so she is very difficult with Joel when he will give her everything except the love. There is a not-so-secret baby, a nasty ex-fiance, two loving family support systems and lots of confusing miscommunication mixed with a large dose of secrets. Cute quick fun read with HEA. 150 pages and kindle freebie 2 stars
This was a pleasant and quick read. I liked the story and the characters. It had some emotion but wasn't full of pain or angst and was an enjoyable way to spend a few hours.
