Bad Rep #2

Perfect Regret

Rate this book
Riley Walker makes all the right decisions and knows exactly where her life is headed.

Riley Walker does not make mistakes.

Riley Walker certainly doesn’t make spontaneous decisions.

But then Riley Walker gets dumped.

Spectacularly, gut-wrenching, stomp all over her heart dumped. And she is feeling more than a little angry. And a whole lot bitter. And suddenly the girl who has always done everything right feels like doing something completely wrong.

Garrett Bellows, lead guitarist for the local band, Generation Rejects, is going through life without a plan. Trying not to think past the next gig or the next party, he has worked hard to not become too attached to anyone or anything. So he is shocked to find himself drawn to the snarky girl with a chip on her shoulder. She pisses him off and puts him down. He knows she’s nothing more than a self-entitled college brat who thinks she’s better than the townie boy without a future.

Alcohol and a hefty dose of lust leads to a night both Riley and Garrett immediately regret. Her embarrassment, his pride and the weight of rumors and misconceptions convince Riley and Garrett that their one-time indiscretion will never be repeated. Particularly when their harshest critics are each other.

But how do you reconcile a head that wants to let go with a heart that keeps holding on?

And what happens when your biggest regret begins to seem almost perfect?

We meet Riley and Garrett in Bad Rep. Riley Walker is Maysie’s best friend and spunky, snarky roommate. Garrett Bellows is the guitarist for Jordan’s band. He is a townie, known for getting high, throwing parties and hooking up. Oh but there is SO much more to Garrett than meets the eye!

The first time Garrett met Riley, he knew. He knew she was something special, a challenge. There was something about her feisty attitude he liked. Riley is a little (understatement) judgmental of Garrett. She only see’s the musician with no ambition when she looks at him.
Looking at him standing in front of me, I couldn’t see past the blood shot eyes, messy shirt, and torn jeans. And I didn’t want to either. Garrett was who he was and I knew without a doubt that we were never destined to mix.

Little does she know the things that have happened in his past, things that have shaped him. Made him into the man he is today. Riley and Garrett see each other occasionally, but she spends a lot of time with her boyfriend, Damien. Damien dumps Riley. She is a bit depressed, but Garrett tries to help get her out of her funk.
“If he could let you go, he’s a fucking moron. Not worth the mud on your shoes. You are so much more that that.”

After ‘hooking up’ with Garrett, Riley has mixed feelings about him. He gets under her skin. She starts to see glimpses of the real Garrett, but she is still so inside of her own head. Garrett is so sweet to Riley, even when she doesn’t deserve it.

 photo 5fac46af-6931-4b4c-85dd-15144588a2a2_zps7a8070d6.jpg

Riley is so focused on herself, her schooling, potential career etc. Riley can be very hurtful. Some of the things she said to Garrett and their interactions broke my heart.

 photo 227b0407-9af8-4b40-ba6e-604f77eb0ff9_zps71d3a25e.jpg

Garrett and Riley seem like total opposites. But when Riley has to deal with a family emergency, Garrett is the one who is there. Who stays with her, helps her cope. They realize they may not be quite as different as they thought. Garrett has a fragile heart. He doesn’t let many people in for a reason. He’s willing to let Riley in.

 photo 2c1fbd64-105b-445e-803e-5a37673ae0b5_zpsc7491e0b.jpg

And what does she do with that... she stomps all over his precious little heart.
“I just wanted you, to just once, look at me as the guy who would give you the world. And for that to be enough.”

Riley never means to intentionally hurt Garrett, she lets her inner bitch come out way too much. She doesn’t always see things the right way. It takes someone who can make her see things in a new light for her to realize what she had and what she lost.
“Have a life that matters. A life with purpose. Find your own way but don’t lose sight of the journey.”

Riley and Garrett are both a little lost, but they may each be the missing parts of each other.

 photo f8825670-57d5-4fb1-9999-3afb29036a47_zps2be2f49e.jpg

Riley is smart, but she is also a smart ass. She thinks too much, and only with her brain. Never with her heart. Garrett is a very complex character. What you see isn’t what you get in the very best way. The more I saw the real Garrett, the more I loved him.

 photo 01d6ba4a-14df-43d8-add1-d37c7feee3c4_zps5fecb258.jpg
“I want you so deep in my life that you can’t ever leave.”

Personally, I enjoyed this one a bit better than Bad Rep. For one reason. Garrett. A sweet broken soul. He made me swoon, melted my heart. The main reason this wasn’t a five star read for me? Riley. Riley grew on me by the end, I was happy she grew as a person and made some better decisions, but some of her choices early on had me wanting to give her a good slap. She was straight up mean. In the end, I was happy with her transformation.

Full of drama, angst, add in some heart broken moments and some heart warming moments, some sexy and a bit of sweet and you have Perfect Regret. There will be frustrating moments, tearful moments, happy moments, your emotions will be all over the place. I did enjoy reading this book. It was good to catch up with Maysie and Jordan, and I look forward to the next book in this series. And lets face it... this is from the author that brought me Clayton Reed- and I will pretty much read anything she writes! This is one I would definitely recommend!

QUICK REVIEW
SPOILER FREE -mature content reader discretion is advised.
3.5 STARS out of 5
Genre: New Adult Romance

 photo Fotor092414484_zpseb18891a.jpg

All Riley Walker has to do is open her mouth and you’ll never forget her. She tells it like she means it without sparing your feelings in the process. Her snarky attitude has worked to her advantage and is expected by those in her presence.

When a devastating breakup causes her grief she briefly becomes unrecognizable to even her best friend. Bouncing back with a sexy lead guitarist was not what she intended but it’s exactly what happens with none other than Garret Bellows.

 photo rachelbilson4_zps6dbab38e.jpg

Who is Riley Walker?
For those who’ve read Bad Rep you will already be familiar with Riley as Maysie’s best friend and roommate. Riley is the complete opposite of her bestie and is proud of it. Never one to fuss over hair makeup or clothes.. Riley is more of a laid back throw on a t-shirt and jeans then go about her day kind of girl. So whether she’s headed to a party or to class makes no difference to her being dressed to impress is just not her style.
Anyone who knows her is also aware that she possesses a mouth that has no filter. Riley will speak her mind as if she is suppose to let you know exactly how she feels about you, him, her or it (being a thing or situation).

 photo michaelheverly1_zpsa213f48c.jpg

Who is Garret Bellows?
Garret does not just play the guitar he is a man of many talents but you must read the book to get those details, sorry. Garret is one of the characters where you only get to know in small revealing doses. Here is what I will say… You will want to jump his bones and I think readers will very much enjoy getting to know him.

My Thoughts
3.5 STARS? Few things..First, Riley’s personality at times was a BIG turn off. Second, Lastly, I felt that Garret's character could have been a bit more developed.

Overall thoughts ... I never really connected to Riley or Garret and stayed connected it was very brief moments and then it was gone. Not really sure how to fully explain it any other way; I hope that makes sense.

My Ratings
Characters- Cute but at times annoying
Writing Style- Fair
Plot/Storyline- Opposites attract
Steam Factor- Medium/Mildly Steamy
Overall- I do not think it lived up to book one. Will I continue with the series? Maybe.

Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads!

3 if only it wasn't for Riley stars

Blessed are the hearts that bend; they shall never be broken.

That awkward, confused looking person in that gif? That's me right now. Minus the penis and plus some more hair. Why you ask? Well because I'm in a bit of a loss as to how to rate a book like this. A 3 star rating for me isn't bad. It means I liked the book, but something just kept me from loving it. It was good...OK...but not great.

I loved, absolutely loved the first book, and I really enjoy the author's writing. I loved everything about this book. Well everything aside from one tiny weenie little thing: the heroine, Riley. She drove me out of my ever loving mind! Now, it will be fair to say that I seem to have a short fuse for annoying and weak heroines. But here's the thing...Riley was not weak. If anything she was the polar opposite of that times infinity on steroids.

Riley Walker has just been dumped. To say that she's not handling it well is an understatement. She's supposed to be the girl that doesn't make mistakes, that leads the perfect life, that has her goals and priorities in order, and knows what she wants from her life. She had all of that, plus the perfect on paper boyfriend...until her perfect boyfriend tells her that their relationship has become boring and dumps her. So of course she's going to wallow in some self pity for a while.
And to commemorate my recent descent into early spinsterhood, I had compiled a list of the most obnoxious and annoying songs ever written. Nothing says heartache and the overwhelming urge to disembowel yourself with a butter knife quite like an hour of Celine Dion ballads."

But then, to add insult to injury, she finds out that her ex just asked her very annoying coworker out. So what's a girl to do? Well get drunk and have a very hot one night stand with the person she least expected to pay any attention to; Garrett Bellows.
Time to take a ride on the Garrett Express all the way to Fuck Me town"

Riley never thought to give him the time of day. After all he's a townie, a pot head, and no goals in mind aside from being the guitarist of Generation Rejects...but is that really all that was to him?
Garrett

We've found something in each other that we want. Hell if I understand why. Out of all the fish in the sea, I had to hook you. One giant, snarly toothed piranha ready to bite my fingers off."

Garrett had me swooning after him for the entire book. There were some moments in the beginning that I questioned it, but he was just amazing. He wanted Riley, and once he let her know what he wanted, he didn't play around. He's already been through so much, and all he asked of Riley is for her to not break his heart when he gives it to her?

So what did Riley do with that? Well she ran it over with a friggin mack truck, of course. Then for good measure, she backed up, and ran it over again!!! To say that I hated Riley for the majority of the book would be a gross understatement. She was a bitch. Plain and simple. She was HORRIBLE to Garrett. Everything she said, everything she did, I found myself getting more and more angry

It actually got to a point where I found myself rooting against her. I kid you not, I wished that Garrett would end up with someone that was deserving of him, and that was not Riley. I have never wished more that I could reach through my kindle and actually choke a fictional character. GAH!

She finally did manage to get her shit together in the last 15ish% of the book. For me this was just a case of too little too late. I didn't think she deserved someone as wonderful as Garrett. He was always so understanding and tolerant of her, and she never ONCE returned the favor. She was judgmental, and rude, and at times purposefully hurtful. Yes, that was her self defense mechanism, but it was just too much. I understand that she was going through a lot, but I didn't find that to be a good excuse for her behavior.

I just couldn't find myself to look past my hate for Riley in this book to rate this anything above 3.5 stars. The writing was fantastic, Garrett was wonderful, and it would have been a 5 star book for me if not for Riley.

So that is all the raging ramblings you'll be getting from this girl. I'm off to read a book with a heroine that I will not be having homicidal thoughts towards. And I thank you

3 1/2 ~ I ❤ Garrett Stars

Perfect Regret is the story of Reilly Walker. Reilly is Maysie’s bitchy roommate/best friend from Bad Rep. She is so darn arrogant, rude, pretentious, snarky that I couldn’t stand being in her head.

I just…

description

”I used sarcasm like a shield. Because God forbid anyone see that I was vulnerable under all this bitch.”~ Reilly

Garrett Bellows is a townie and the guitarist in Jordan Levitt’s band, Generation Rejects. He lives in his deceased parents’ house and is known as the party throwing, laid back guy. Let me put it to you this way, he was WONDERFUL! This guy’s souls shines through and he is beautiful inside and out.

description

Reilly has been recently dumped by Damien and is nursing the blow to her ego. She finds herself hooking up with Garrett whom she usually dismisses with rude comments after a night of drinking and doesn’t mince words when she deems it a mistake.

”Yes folks, I was being a bitch. And yes it was messed up. And maybe I was being a world-class idiot. But all I could see when I looked at Garrett right then was a guy who didn’t fit.”~Reilly

This story does end in an hea and is told in Reilly’s pov. I don’t think I could have handled Garrett’s pov at all. Just the things he would say and how he handled her rejection was enough.

”I just wanted you, to just once, look at me as the guy who would give you the world. And for that to be enough.”~Garrett

Sadly, a reader has to be endure Reilly’s holier than thou attitude towards Garrett for the majority of the story. Reilly is career driven, idealistic and has to learn some really important lessons about happiness and love.

Readers will be thrilled that Generation Rejects are starting to get popular and this reader can’t wait to see what’s next in this series. I’m hoping for Cole next!

”Blessed are the hearts that bend; they shall never be broken.”

This was a good book and I likely would have given it 4 stars were it not for Riley.

LOVED Garrett soooo much, but not sure what he saw in Riley.

Riley was the most unlikeable, judgmental mega bitch and she was supposed to be the heroine!!!! There was no good reason for her nastiness, no tragic background that caused her to be guarded or shield herself. She was just a straight up bitch.

Overall I liked the book but Riley was a hard pill to swallow.

ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. Spoiler-free. This book does not end with a cliffhanger. This book can be considered a stand-alone but I would highly recommend reading Bad Rep (book# 1). NO cliffhanger. I have no regrets reading this one….4.5 - 5 stars!

Riley Walker is perfect.
Riley Walker has a life plan.
Riley Walker gets dumped by her boyfriend.
Riley Walker is now a total bitch.

After her boyfriend breaks up with her, Riley’s perfect world comes to a screeching halt. Misery loves company and everyone around her is her is feeling the pain. She is critical, angry and just a beast. Riley goes out one night and decides to let loose. She dials down her bitchy demeanor and puts on some beer goggles. Riley hooks up with her BFF boyfriend’s band mate – Garrett Bellow. By Riley’s standards hooking up with the hottie stoner is equivalent to “slumming it”. Garrett is a “townie” who lives by her college and seems to have no life plan in place. Garrett plays guitar is in a popular local band and has job doing construction work. After a wild night of sex (which she can’t really remember) she wakes up and regrets ever being with Garrett.

“I felt like a miserable failure on all fronts. I was hung over and ashamed. Not a good combination when you felt like throwing up all over your shoes.”

She rejects Garrett over and over again…while fighting her feelings for him. Garrett doesn’t have a life plan so she thinks he is a lost cause and not for her. Riley strikes out at Garrett and treats him like total shit…but he keeps coming back for more. He sees something behind her cold mask of rejection and slowly melts her ice berg sized heart.

“We’ve found something in each other than we want. Hell if I understand why. Out of all the fish in the sea, I had to hook you. One giant, snarly toothed piranha ready to bite my fingers off.”

“My heart isn’t strong enough to survive you Riley. You won’t just bend it, you have the power to shatter it to pieces.”

After being bitch slapped…literally by a few loved ones. She starts to snap out of her PMS on acid façade. But will it be too late?

This story unravels mostly through Riley’s razor sharp tongue. There is angry and then there is Riley Walker. She’s not likeable through much of PR. While I didn’t like her…. I loved the book. In Bad Rep (book 1) she was a solid friend with just a strong personality – not mean spirited like in PR. Garrett on the other hand…is so likeable (and maybe too nice). I will say there were times there were times I want to reach in my kindle a smack him for putting up with Riley. Bad Rep fans will be happy that Maysie and Jordon are integrated nicely into PR.

This story has the perfect amount of – angst, drama and character chemistry. I made the mistake of thinking I could skim through Bad Rep before I read APG. Not a chance…I got sucked in all over again. I would recommend this book and series. A Perfect Regret is a perfect read and was worth the wait. 4.5 - 5 stars!

I'm not sure why I waited so long to read this book!! It was a back and forth book - not in a whiny way...but a way that made sense. I really fell for Garrett! Kind of hard not to. Guitar player, in a band who writes songs...doesn't wear a shirt. Yeah...

Riley, remember her? Well if not, it only takes a few moments of her inner musings and pretentious judgement before this character comes to you... Jesus, did I want to shake the shit out of this girl through nearly 75% of this book! Although this journey to the HEA caused my claws to come out several times, the overall story just worked.

I have had my issues with heroines in the past, but seriously Riley...

Riley is too strung out. Too focused on the life that she thinks will make her happy - make her complete. But when Damien dumps her it leads her to the bed of Garrett, the slacker guitar player for Generation Rejects. But Riley is not about to let go of her ideas about what makes a person matter. Garrett is completely not her type. He is going nowhere and she might be physically attracted to him, but he is the complete wrong guy to ensure that she ensures she lives a life that matters.

But when Garrett get's under her skin, their snarky banter turns into a few heated moments. Garrett is more than just the pot smoking, one night stand having guy that doesn't give a shit about anything. He used to care - but his past has taught him the hard lessons of how much losing something can destroy you. So rather than suffer, he ensures he never has anything worth losing.

These two were a disaster of epic proportions! And although it seems like a HEA doesn't have a fighting chance, a certain someone is forced to pull her head out of her ass and take a hard look in the mirror.

"I don't particularly like you, Riley. But right now I want to fuck you." he growled...
... ... ...
"You're an asshole." I whispered, not trusting my voice at the moment. Garrett emitted a low groan as I yanked on his hair again. I bit his lower lip, pulling it into my mouth. "And I want you to fuck me. I want to remember it this time," I sad raggedly.

I adored Bad Rep, Maysie & Jordan's story was one of my favorites and although I found it hard to like Riley, I fell hard for Garrett and his brokenness. I loved seeing the story continue for all of the Characters and wonder if we will ever get a Gracie & Mitch story.

And although the girls were still all in college, without the drama of the sorority girls, we didn't have to contend with too much of the drama that seems to come along with the college age romances. The drama here was kept solely within the head of Riley. A great companion novel to go along with Bad Rep. Garrett never seemed like a character that would have depth, until A. Meredith Walters unleashed him in Perfect Regret.

While I did enjoy this book... I just didn't LOVE it as much as I did the first.

Garrett was beautiful. LOVE HIM

Riley however... just annoyed the shit out of me.. I didn't like her till about 80% and the chemistry just wasn't there like Number 1

Still enjoyable though.

Review taken from our blog The Three Bookateers

As most of you know I have been waiting for what feels like a very, very long time for Perfect Regret to be released. If you follow my reviews, you will know that I even stalked Ms. Walters for months beforehand to provide you all with all the Perfect Regret updates. I know, I know you all probably think I am freaking loony but what can I say?

That's right, my loony-tuneness-please-check-me-into-a-ward-after-i-finish-reading brought you all some sneak peeks and excerpts of Perfect Regret to tide you all over until the book was released and GUESS WHAT? PERFECT REGRET HAS BEEN RELEASED! YIPPEEEEEEEEEE!

So that's pretty exciting right? YES but... I have more EXCITING news! I was lucky enough in my stalk-quest to receive an ARC as part of the Perfect Regret blog tour! WOOOHOOOO! I am feeling incredibly lucky right now.

My Thoughts

Starting Perfect Regret, we are introduced into the feisty, sarcastic and highly guarded world of Riley Walker. In Bad Rep, you notice that Riley is incredibly witty and always has some sort of smart-ass comeback to everything thrown at her. At times Riley is a bitch and is a bit snarky as she is not afraid to speak her mind. However there is a likable sense around her character due to her interesting quips. Riley seems like such a composed person, giving you the sense that she is the sort of person who likes to plan ahead. She knows where she wants to go in life and has planned out the steps of how she will get there. So you can imagine her surprise when her ass gets dumped by the guy she had deemed her one and only.

After getting her heart trampled on by a herd/pack/gang of baby elephants, Riley despises the idea of love, and becomes the only member of the Love Sucks club (hypothetically speaking, there is no such club and if there were there would be more than waaay more than one member :P)

After getting dumped out of the blue, Riley is in a funk for daaaaaays. Maysie, her BFF suggests that they go to Garrett Bellows house after work to get her mind off things. Garrett is one of the residential man whore's in the Generation Rejects band and has always has a harem/gaggle/pack of women throwing themselves at him, left, right and centre.

Garrett is usually stoned or drunk, and in all honesty, Garrett is a guy that Riley looks down on. He has no future goals, takes life as it comes and spends his time either lounging around, playing in the band or getting stoned... again. Although Garrett seems a bit dopey.... from all that weed, he is actually a very observant character and a deep thinker. He is good at reading people and he is even better at reading Riley. As soon as I read that Garrett had long-ish blonde hair, I pictured this . I know, I know, I will admit that I am an occasional asshole but that's what I honestly pictured every time Garrett was mentioned.. terrible, I know that Garrett is supposed to be pretty hot, but as soon as the long blonde hair was mentioned, it got me picturing Jim Carrey... HAHAHAHA :P

Anyway, moving back to the story, Riley arrives at Garrett's party, talks to him briefly, realises that they have nothing in common and somehow gets pissed at him. Riley then gets white girl wasted and soon one thing leads to another

And Riley wakes up with a massive hangover with hazy memories of the night before. When she realizes that she is in bed with non other than the whore of all man whores, Garrett Bellows (actually Garrett probably isn't the biggest man whore but I needed to emphasis my point, plus the sentence sounds better that way :P) she immediately regrets everything about the night before.

After this initial shock find, Riley dismisses Garrett which in turn Garrett reciprocates, and she then heads home. When they meet again and again and again, there seems to be a constant buzz of chemistry between the two. How can there be chemistry between two people who presumably despise one another (but between you + me, its all an act ;))

Anwyay, throughout the novel, Riley, being the strong willed person that she is, won't give in to her feelings for Garrett

Going from resisting her urges to wanting to jump Garrett's bones, Riley and Garrett embark on a journey of self discovery with one another... LOL no they don't.... actually if I think about it they kind of do in a way, which you will discover if you decide to read it.

From a third party perspective Garrett continually tries to show Riley how good they are for one another

BUT I am going to be a brat here and end my review with a *dum dum dum*. Will they end up together? Will Riley see Garrett as someone who is there for her? Will they end up having little Rigar (Riley+Garrett) babies? I can't tell you that, you'll have to read the book yourself to find out!

To get a taste of the book, head on over to Amazon to download a free sample chapter and if you love it, buy the book - then tell me what you think of it. If you want a few more excerpts, read my first Perfect Regret post (if you hadn't already).

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

All in all, I enjoyed Perfect Regret but I have to admit that Bad Rep takes first place between the two. I am a MASSIVE sucker for Jordan Levitt, and reading his little quips and hearing more about his relationship with Maysie in Perfect Regret only enforced my book crush on Bad Rep.

I think that you will enjoy Bad Rep if you like a witty, sarcastic and comedy filled novel. Perfect Regret is filled with so many LOL worthy lines that will have you giggle-chuckling in no time.

*SEMI-SPOILER ALERT - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED*

In ending my review, I am going to be a bit critical say that my only issue with it,

It was OK. A huge let down after book #1 in the series, Bad Rep. I really liked that book gave it 4 stars but this book wasn't close to as good. First, Riley Walker was not likable at all. She was a bitch in the first book and she is worse in this one. Judgmental, mean, condescending. I found no reason my Garrett [the lead] would want her thus detracting from enjoying the story.

He, Garrett, just wants her to look at the real him and not they judgmental way she always does. After Riley is shattered after her boyfriend breaks up with her than goes after a coworker she parties a little to hard and wakes up in his bed. Then she acts like an ass and this how she acts throughout the book till finally after many times seeing the sweetness and awesomeness of Garrett she realizes she was wrong.

I just couldn't get into this book and wanted it to end faster. Riley was a horrible heroine to lead a book.

I was honored when I received and ARC of Perfect Regret from A. Meredith Walters' ~ I freaking ADORE her to the moon and back ~ I also purchased this one cause well I loved it! When I started it I literally.....

yep those pages were turning so fast I couldn't get ENOUGH! Riley (if you read Bad Rep then you know this is Maysie's BFF & roommate) has just ended her year long relationship with Damien ~ yep she is downright doing a little ....

she thought they were PERFECT together! The whole break up for her was way out of left field and she was certainly...

what do you do when you want to get over heartbreak and move on? well, of course you get your pretty little arse drunk and hook up with Garrett ~ you know the sexy as sin guitarist for Generation Rejects who loses his shirt by the end of the night ~ yep ladies I would so..

Because if he was my biggest regret then it was the most perfect regret of my life.

Riley Walker has just gotten dumped by her boyfriend of one year-Damien Green. After having given her the “it’s not you, it’s me speech” she wants to hide away from the world. Her roommate and best friend Maysie Ardin (from Bad Rep). She is trying to get her out of her slump, without much success. Unfortunately, Riley works at Barton’s, a small bar/grill and so does her now former boyfriend. Seems there may be something brewing there between Damian and another waitress. Riley is beyond gutted.

Maysie’s boyfriend Jordan Levitt, is in a band called Generation Rejects and he also works at Barton’s. One of his fellow band mates, Garrett Bellows, the lead guitarist is a manwhore/pothead who seems to rub Riley the wrong way. She wrote him off as a townie loser with no goals other than to screw a different girl after each of their shows.
You know the ones that smoked a bowl or two and suddenly they were Plato reincarnate, talking about the meaning of life and how it had to be a government conspiracy that McDonald’s only rolled out the McRib a few times a year.

The two seem to share a lot of animosity between them. So how is it that after seeing Damien making out with his new love interest, she winds up the next morning, in Garrett’s.

Time to take a ride on the Garrett Express all the way to Fu*k Me town.

Vowing never to veer off the straight and narrow again, and cursing the alcohol she blames for her regrettable night, she puts it all behind her.

“It was fun, but I won’t be signing up for round two. You can leave now.” His grin was as brittle as broken glass and I felt my face flush red in a mixture of humiliation and gnaw-through-his –jugular rage. “Well it’s a good thing you were entirely forgettable then,” I whispered, licking my lips slowly and chuckling as Garrett’s eyes dropped to my mouth.”

But maybe Garrett doesn’t want to be forgotten. These two frustrated the hell out of me! Especially Riley. She fights what she desires the most and convinces herself she doesn’t need nor want the person who sees beneath the layers she wraps around herself. And she’s MEAN!! Really mean to Garrett. This guy uses women and weed and alcohol to fill in the holes of his heart. He has dealt with terrible loss and thinks Riley may be the cure. She bobs and weaves in his orbit constantly letting him have a small taste and then pulls away. When she needs him the most, he is there, but again she breaks his heart.

I couldn’t do it. I just couldn’t. I needed safe. I needed something I could depend on. And a relationship between Garrett and I would be entirely too messy.

Can Riley ever listen to what her heart tells her and shut off the noises in her head? Can you put safe and her ex-asshat behind her and take a chance on the unknown?

“Do you even know how many times I wanted you to look at me, not as a loser with no future. Not as a guy in a band with no idea of what he wants in his life. I just wanted you, to just once, look at me as the guy who would give you the world. And for that to be enough."

I loved this story as much as I loved Bad Rep. Anytime I can revisit with Maysie and Jordan is a good thing. Now I can add one more couple to my favorite list.

Because I’d rather he be a guitarist without a plan than a jerk with his life laid out ahead of them.

I loved Bad Rep and I like this authors writing style. I loved Riley in Bad Rep but in this book she tried my patience quite a few times. She reminded me a bit of Keira in Thoughtless.

I looked forward to this book but it wasn't as good as Bad Rep. It had far too much of Riley's internal monologue and although it had dialogue with her friends and her ex Damian, it had very little dialogue between her and Garret. I wanted more of their romance...they don't interact much throughout the story and when they do Riley is a bit of a b*!ch more often than not. It makes you wonder what Garret sees in her. The few sex scenes are quite tame.

Garret is in a band but he isn't a bad boy rocker. In fact, he is a sensitive soul. Maybe a bit too sensitive for my liking. I wanted him to man up a bit and make Riley work harder for forgiveness. Riley knows where she's going in life and most of the book came across her believing Garret wasn't good enough for her and him thinking the same. The book is told entirely from Riley's POV but it was easy to read between the lines as to how Garret felt and you do feel sorry for him.

When we did get some romance I liked it. I liked some of the sweet things Garret said to Riley. I liked the lyrics of the songs Garret wrote. Yet even in the epilogue it seems Riley is still holding back so when she says what Garret has been waiting to hear, it should have had more impact than it did but instead it was rushed. Maysie and Jordan feature in this book and seem to be living HEA. Alcohol and drug abuse play a part for some characters and the book certainly has a message.

Although errors etc can be expected with self published authors, I was surprised in the acknowledgements when the author thanks her Editor as I found an awful lot of errors (missed words, repeated words, incorrect words etc) which at times distracted from my reading. This book has had a big push from Bloggers and a 'Street Team'. I'm surprised nobody mentioned the errors to the author and PLEASE don't take that as an offence against people lucky enough to get an ARC because it isn't. I just think the author should have been told before publication (unless of course they were given an unedited version but that doesn't account for the Editor).

All in all, I would say I was a little disappointed in this much anticipated book but only because I wanted more of Riley and Garret being a couple and interacting. I wanted more dialogue. I have read a lot of this author's books and will continue to do so. Because one disappoints, it doesn't mean the others to follow will and the teaser for her new book sounds promising.

Read more of my reviews at here

When it comes to A. Meredith Walters, I will pretty much read anything she writes. I read the first book in the series which was about her best friend Maysie, and I liked it. But I enjoyed Perfect Regret a thousand times more.

I knew from the last book exactly how Riley was, and I was okay with that. But I'm not going to lie, she really made me mad at times. At first I was really into it and all "You go girl" but after a while it really started to get old. She was being so hateful for NO REASON Not to mention she's judgmental as hell. She said that she didn't think she was better then everyone else but her actions said otherwise. I wanted to understand, and at times I did but she made it so hard some times. Don't get me wrong: I loved Riley but she definitely made me want to scream at times. It seems to be a reoccurring theme when it comes to the characters in this series but I must love it since I always come back for more.

*Received a copy as part of the blog tour.
Garrett really surprised me. He comes off as someone who doesn't really care about anything, just trying to get by in life doing the minimum but he's so much more. I really didn't expect him to be such a closet romantic. The things he said had butterflies in my stomach and made my heart skip a beat on more then one occasion. I really wish I could find a guy like Garrett because he's perfect in all the ways that count. I felt bad for the way Riley would treat him at times but he always came back for more and it was very obvious he had feelings for her from the beginning.

I think one of my favorite things about this book was that we got to see Maysie and Jordan. It was great seeing them function as a couple, especially since all that drama in the first book. I loved all the other characters as well and I'm really hoping they get their own stories.

Drove me crazy but in a good way. I couldn't put it down and I definitely couldn't stop reading. If you haven't read the first one I suggest you start with that one. You don't have to but it's always more fun to start from the beginning and get to know the other characters story.

This review is going to be short and to the point.

I was not feeling Riley in book 1 in this series. And sadly she was still not likable in this book either.

Omg.... This book was hard to read. There really is no reason for her to be the way she is with everyone.
It was totally utterly exhausting reading her story.

She's one of those people you either love them or hate them...or you just flat out put up with them.
And I think a lot of people just put up with her gigantic attitude towards everyone.
It was so hard to read. I thought what happened to her dad... Would have softened her up & open her eyes to how she was acting.
I mean she even knew how she was acting was bad.
But... We don't see a change in her until 76% into the book.
That's way to long to read about someone who is mean to other people and goes out of their way to make them feel bad about themselves.

And Garrett... He pops in & out. Says some hurtful things to Riley after she had her say with him. But it's all so back and forth between them.
It was just so hard to feel the connection between them. Riley whole attitude just over took the whole book.
So when they finally get together.
It all seemed too rushed.

Bitter, Much!

I enjoyed Riley's sarcastic wit and inner monologue a lot. But, when does her bitchiness and snark remarks become too much? Well, when it becomes the norm and it's just down right mean. Riley has a chip on her shoulders, she's judgy and has her life planned out for her.

She can't see that Garrett is more than what he portrays. I really couldn't understand why she was the way she was bc she had a loving family and nurturing childhood. I would have liked this one a lot more if Riley would have toned down her emo-hiding scared bitch a bit more.

Garrett was just a wonderful hero, I couldn't understand what really kept him coming back to her, he deserved so much more than what he got. But, I love this authors writing and loved Bad Rep and those characters, but Ri 's left a bad taste in my mouth.

Looking forward to the next to books.

I'm a bit indifferent about this story. I really liked Garrett's character alot. Riley's self righteous attitude got old for me pretty quickly. I found myself skimming through of this because I was getting bored. It was just ok.

Another truly enjoyable read from A. Meredith Walters.

An eye opener to how we judge one another on appearances and sometimes behaviours.

If you take the time to actually scratch the surface of something or someone then what you may find is a real treasure worth hanging onto.

Review by Jo:
"Perfect Regret" is the second book in the "Bad Rep" series but it can be read as a standalone.

This book focuses on the story of Riley and Garrett. Riley had her life all planned, she knew the path she was going to follow and nothing and no one was going to get in her way. Well that is until Garrett came along. Up until this point, I found myself really liking her character. She was strong willed, feisty and very witty. Some of the comments she made were just laugh out loud hilarious. The minute Garrett made an appearance though, she changed and not for the better. Unfortunately she seemed to turn into a complete bitch. She refused to acknowledge her growing feelings for him and said some god awful, heartless things. Her stubborness really frustrated me and to be honest, I became a little disheartened by her character. My initial connection with her character was lost.
"No one bantered Riley Walker. Especially not a guitar paying, pot smoking, needs a haircut in the worst way, jackass."

Garrett came across as a bit of a bad boy, a bad boy that REALLY appealed to me (don't they always!!!). He hid his true character from those closest to him allowing them to see him as a drug taking, alcohol drinking individual. However, he took a bit of a shine to Riley and for some reason, found himself attracted to her challenging personality. When he was around her, he changed. He opened up and let her know how he felt about her (now that was a contradiction to the character his friends were used to).
"When I tell you you're beautiful, I'm not just saying that. I'm saying it because you are. You. Are. Beautiful. And I want to kiss you more than I 've ever kissed anyone in my entire life."

The words he spoke were just beautiful. If he'd have said those words to me, my heart would have well and truly melted so I just couldn't believe that Riley was reacting the way she did. What was wrong with this girl?
"My heart isn't strong enough to survive you, Riley. You won't just bend it, you have the power to shatter it to tiny pieces."

The end of the story didn't result in a nail biting cliff-hanger which was a relief although to be honest I would have liked the story to have continued a bit longer, I felt the ending was kind of quick and happened just as things were getting good and I was beginning to like Riley again. I definitely could have read more about Garrett, I think I found myself falling a little bit in love with him!

I loved catching up with Maysie and Jordan from "Bad Rep" and it was great to see how their relationship had progressed. There are another two books in this series, so fingers crossed I will get another dose of Garrett and Riley. I really do feel I need more from them.

I rated "Perfect Regret" 4 hearts.

Riley has it all together, and then she doesn't. She's snarky with a sassy internal dialogue but she hides from her real emotions. In the beginning, she is dumped by Damien. He was part of her life plan which for Riley, that meant no upheavals. I really felt I was in her head, listening to her. At times, it was as if she was talking to me. I laughed out loud several times at the level of snark. But then I also felt all of the anguish Riley felt from her break-up, from the other pieces of her life that cause her pain, and from life spiraling out of control when she least expects it.

Garrett is the partying guitarist with Generation Rejects. There were so many unexpected sides to him that are revealed throughout the story. His apparent man-whoring ways and pot smoking were a turnoff for Riley and I can't blame her. But there was something about him that could be seen peeking through during moments with her that was very intriguing. His vulnerability and his depth of character were definitely more than meets the eye.

I really loved the inclusion of Riley and Garrett's friends (and some who wanted to be more than friends!). They all added to the story but not to the point where they take over. And it was easy to pick up where they all left off from Bad Rep, the first book with Maysie and Jordan.

A Meredith Walters builds a very real story of growing up and learning to look beyond the surface. As the story progressed, it was as if I was growing with Riley and feeling all of her feelings. Overall, I liked the ending but I also felt like there was much to be discovered and not quite finished - there are too many "what ifs?" for me. I won't expand on them here as it could add some spoilers but maybe this means we will see a continuation of the story of the friends? Note: This was a standalone but also one that by reading in order with Bad Rep it will add to the story for you as a reader.

I really loved this book. It was full of LOL moments, great witty banter, drama and angst, and hot chemistry between to completely misunderstood characters.

This book picks up after Bad Rep with Jordan and Maysie's Crazypalooza, lol! All is well with the happy couple and Jordan's band is gaining popularity. The gang from Barton's is still the same, only Maysie's roomie Riley now gets her own fun.

Riley is the smart mouthed roomie who has constant structure and goals. She is a top notch student with ridiculous drive toward her life plan. Well life plans don't include getting dumped by your "perfect" BF after a year and then getting shitty only to land yourself naked in bed with a band member. Yep...Riley had a battle with her vagina, and it won...come on, Garrett is hot, in a broody, stoner, chiseled kind of way, right? I loved this coupling. I was fierce....harsh words and fire...hate for what each other represented yet a pull to be together that was making me sweat! Most of all I loved the good character of Garrett and how amazingly beautiful he was. Every time he put himself out there and gave Riley his heart and every time she stomped on it...I got a visceral reaction! I honestly did not think she is good enough for him, but sometimes it takes loss and some courage to deter yourself from the "straight and narrow" path that you think your life should be on.

Maybe I found Riley's character to be close to home...always doing the right thing, not immersed in the party lifestyle, always responsible, but yearning for a touch of the forbidden...wanting to just let go one time and throw caution to the wind. Also then realizing that something different is not always bad, but that it can be beautiful! When you open you eyes and look at life maybe what you truly need isn't what you are supposed to have but what you found unexpectedly. For Riley and Garrett this holds true!
