This positive book of encouragement and hope is compiled from text in the newly released Job by best-selling author Charles Swindoll. His practical application of the Bible to everyday living makes God's truths a reality to people experiencing loss, uncertainty, and doubt. This book will be directed at a broad audience of both genders. The object is to create a book that will provide encouragement, comfort and direction for the matrix of modern life. Based on guidelines gleaned from the life of Job, the book will focus a) Seven things Job teaches us about ourselves b) Seven things Job teaches us about God
Charles Swindoll has devoted over four decades to two passions: an unwavering commitment to the practical communication and application of God's Word, and an untiring devotion to seeing lives transformed by God's grace. Chuck graduated magna cum laude from Dallas Theological Seminary and has since been honored with four doctorates. For his teaching on Insight for Living, he has received the Program of the Year award and the Hall of Fame award from the National Religious Broadcasters as well as multiple book awards.
This is a wonderful little book that I've actually read twice and will read many more times I'm pretty sure. It taught me to instead of asking "why" I go through trials, to instead say "I don't know." The point is, I don't have to know. All I need to do is trust in the God who knows all and trust that He will bring me through to the other side. I borrowed it from the library, then I bought a used copy from the internet. I couldn't find it in stores, but I knew I had to have this book in my home.
Loved it. Will be reading it once every couple months til this trial ends, after that once a year. Such a lovely book I could NOT highlight in it so I have sticky notes everywhere to mark favorite passages. Especially recommend to those struggling with life right now.
This is a beautiful book that helps guide people through a trial in life. I have bought and gave this book to multiple people over the years. It is an easy read that is not too overwhelming for people going through a crisis.
This is a perfect small book to compliment meditational prayer. If you have gone through or are currently going through a rough time and feel like God is not hearing your prayers, this is the book for you. I found it a great resource to reflect on areas in my life where I still felt bitterness and uncertainty for what God was doing in my life. This book does not offer answers for suffering, it just offers faith. That is all I needed as I read and reflected on each chapter.
I do think this book is written more for committed Christians, not for someone who is just getting into their faith or are still deciding if they want to commit to a life of Jesus. Everyone's faith journey is different though, so take that last recommendation with a grain of salt. I also recommend reading the book of Job before or after this book as well.
