Wow, what a thrilling intense adventure through time, that takes us through corruption, conspiracies, betrayals, lies, deception and murder!!! THE EIGHTH GUARDIAN is full of soo much awesomeness, all packed in one little book!!!
I don't even know where to begin with all of this book's awesomeness! The world building was so complex and full of layers of plot and character development that made this book what it was, a bombshell of a debut!!
The characters were interesting... They're was a ...more

Dear Audiobooks,
I love you so freaking much because you make my boring life at work 110% better. I'd also like to thank my Kindle Unlimited account for giving me really fantastic book recommendations ever now and then. You've really stepped up your game this month and it's only the beginning of 2018. You keep doing you KU! Also, here's a little shout out to my audible app because I just love changing the speed of the narrator every now and then.
Sincerely,
A very happy reader/customer (AKA ME!)

Gosh! I didn't enjoy this book. I dragged myself through it. I didn't like Amanda/Iris. She was judgmental, whiny and really not that great as everyone made her seem.
Amanda graduates from Peel Academy in junior year itself and is taken away from everything and her boyfriend Abe to a secret government organization called Annum Guard. She is considered an outsider and has to prove herself before she can become a full member of the organization. Oh and she is given another name, ...more

This book is nothing short of brilliant. Seriously, I ZOOMED through it. The plot is deliciously twisty, the characters are so well-drawn(and kick butt!), and the world building is top-notch. I loved the mystery elements, the time-travel bits, the quick pacing, and the general awesomeness of the heroine.
I honestly cannot WAIT for this book to release.

I'm not too terribly fond of the cover, but when I read the description, it sounded exciting and full of action. And this book did NOT disappoint!

Woah. That was an intense and adventurous read! Even though there were parts that really annoyed me, seriously I considered putting the book down, I got really into it and loved it in the end. I like the fact that this is not an insta love story, and focuses rather on a "heroine" with selfish tendencies (think Katniss). Its also not a love triangle or love story whatsoever, and I loved the friendship and self awareness that Iris developed over the course of the book. The book doesn't end on a cl

I enjoyed reading the book in a the way someone enjoys a sugary dessert - all fluff, no nutrients. It's fun but I wish there was more substance underneath. Hard to rate... enjoyment-wise? Pretty good. But parts start to unravel when you think about them.
If you think about McCardle's approach to Time Travel, there is a paradox issue... The way the book is set up, it seems like the people who "enhance" the past can remember the previous history (their memories move into the parallel universe uncha ...more

This book rests on my 'favorites of the year so far' list in case you missed our top ten tuesday! I'd been dying to get my hands on this, and then I won a copy from the author. When it arrived, I immediately put everything else to the side. This book has a little bit of everything for everyone! Twists and turns that will keep you guessing, mystery and intrigue to keep you turning pages and wonderful characters you'll find yourself cheering for! Plus a bit of romance. To say I'm excited for book

The Eighth Guardian is the first book in the Annum Guard series by Meridith McCardle begins with Amanda taking her exams at the Peel school which trains young men and women to work for the government. Amanda has a bad feeling that things are not going to go as she expects them to at the graduation ceremony. When she hears her name called, a year early, for graduation she hugs her boyfriend goodbye before being rushed into a room to meet her new boss, the leader of the Annum guard, a small time t

Time Travel.....What a difficult subject to write about. I don't normally enjoy time travel books because it's just too far fetched and there are so many factors involved and it's extremely hard to wrap my head around it. This book was a lighter read when it came to time travel and I think the author did a good job of explaining it. I enjoyed it for the most part but don't expect some deep incredible story-line that leaves you breathless. Just take the book a ...more

This book is smart, smart, smart. And, hey, it has time travel and history, two of my most favorite things. I'm so glad it's only the first in the trilogy because I love spending time with Iris and her gang. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Amanda and her boyfriend Abe are top students, and they’ve just endured thirty-six hours of testing. But they’re juniors and don’t expect to graduate. That’ll happen next year, when they plan to join the CIA—together.

I enjoyed this narrator and will have to dive into book 2 again soon. Definitely check this series out when you can. It is complete so you can read them all back to back with no delays!!

I really, really enjoyed this one.
This book is officially on my favorites list. You may have seen an update somewhere stating I had to force myself to put this book down and I wasn’t exaggerating. This was a story that continually had me saying to myself, “Just one more chapter” and when I finally realized how late it was and that I actually had to function the next day I did it. Nevermind that the second I got home from work I immediately opened it back up until I finished. So…if that isn’t jus ...more

(4.5 stars) I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. It grabbed my attention right away and I had a hard time putting it down until I was finished. It starts on Testing Day and Amanda notices a man intently watching her. She's a junior so Testing Day is generally considered a warm-up for her senior year, when she will graduate. She has a feeling, though, that she'll be graduating early and tells her boyfriend, Abe, who quickly dismisses it. Her name is, indeed, announced as a graduate, and s

The Eighth Guardian was so much fun - this book kept me on the edge of my seat! I loved the time travel and intrigue and all the different time periods and historical events. I was excited that so much of this book takes place in Boston, including a fantastic section that involves the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum Heist!
However, there was some mean girl jealousy and drama that I think was overdone. I also feel sort of indifferent about the romance. Amanda and Abe are already dating when the b ...more

What an incredible read! The moment I picked up THE EIGHTH GUARDIAN I was hooked and literally flew through the book until the very end. As a fan of the Alias TV series, I fell in love with this book right away. Chapter one gives the reader a glimpse of the action and intrigue that this book has to offer and it doesn't disappoint! The world that McCardle crafted with the Annum Guard is so real and believable. And the characters are each unique in their own right and add to the flavor of the stor

This was such a fun fast-paced romp of a book. Time travel in the Boston area, a secret government conspiracy, and a sassy MC added up to awesome. McCardle leaves you hanging from chapter to chapter making you turn the pages faster than Iris can jump through time. It's also smart and thought-provoking, opening up questions about how history could change if we really could time travel.
This will appeal to readers who like intrigue, adventure, and a quick look at pivotal moments in history. There's ...more

If you want a book with a likable protagonist, this is not the book for you. I won't give anything away, but if this bitch said, "YOU LIED TO MEEEE" one more time, I was going to break my Kindle in two. (Not exaggerating. She said those exact words at least ten times.) Thus this was a DNF for me, for the health and safety of all involved. My reviews are normally super long, but I'll keep this short and sweet: the premise was brilliant, but the execution was the actual worst. Don't even bother wi

3.5 stars It started a little slow for me and it was hard to connect with the main character at first. But the more I read the more interesting it got so I'm happy I kept reading it. I did enjoyed the twist and turn of events this book took; it totally surprise me. The whole concept of the time travel and Annum Guard School that McCardle created is kind of cool. If you like time travel books you should give this book a try.

Meredith McCardle is a recovered lawyer who lives in South Florida with her husband and two young daughters. Like her main character in the Annum Guard series, she has a fondness for strong coffee, comfortable pants, and jumping to the wrong conclusions. Unlike her main character, she cannot travel through time. Sadly. She is the author of THE EIGHTH GUARDIAN and BLACKOUT.

“The Concert,” Zeta says. “Painted by Johannes Vermeer around 1660, stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum on March 18, 1990, along with twelve other pieces of art. The Concert alone is valued at two hundred million dollars.” My mouth drops open. “The total value of all art stolen that night is about five hundred million. None of the stolen works has been recovered.”
