When Col. Link Taylor, Spacefleet Mars Command, finds himself in the Fantasy Shoppe, he finds himself with a pre-loaded card that gives him access to The Palace, a high end brothel. If that weren't enough, he sees his former lover, Sara Evans, on the list of available attendants. Intrigued as much as horrified, he buys her services believing she's doing time for something she's done. What he doesn't know is Evans is an undercover agent for Homeland Security on a mission to locate a government official's daughter.

Quite frankly, as an undercover agent, Evans really didn't impress me to begin with. She's more wishy washy than I'd expect however she's truly working her job, having sex with clients though that happens off page. And I appreciated the authors not insulting my intelligence by having her work in a brothel yet somehow only have sex with the hero.

The emotion between Taylor and Evans is as lovely as it's hot. Even when he thinks she's nothing but a prostitute he's drawn to her an as a result messes up her investigation.

The Palace itself is as amusing as it is horrifying. The cameras the constant requests for upgrades, and the treatment of the attendants all truly make it a golden cage.

The book has its dark moments, Evans punished for disobeying and Taylor captured and sexually assaulted. But the later moves into an awesome Evans bad ass scene and I especially loved how Taylor waited for her to rescue him knowing she cared enough about him to come and was tough enough to do it.

A really great read.

Venus Rising by Annalise surprises by delivering a full fledge erotic romance in the midst of a whorehouse. Col. Link Taylor, Spacefleet Mars Command, is surprised to discover his lost love working in a posh brothel when he returns to earth on leave. He is unaware that Evans is actually an undercover agent with Homeland Security attempting to rescue a senator’s daughter. Link and Evans rediscover their romance when he becomes her client.

I was pleased that there was a great deal of affection and admiration in the sex scenes between the two lead characters. There was not a lot of detail concerning sex with other people although it was clear that Evans was actively working as a prostitute. The brothel was like a luxurious spa for the clients and prison-like for the workers.

Annalise is a writing team of two authors working together. They incorporated a great deal of suspense as well as some elements of Sci Fi and Fantasy. The plot was consistently developed through the book and took a surprising turn toward the end. I also liked that the agents got in trouble for disobeying orders. That was a nice realistic touch.
