About the author

Santa Montefiore is the number one bestselling author of over thirty novels and has sold over eight million copies worldwide. Jack, het zoontje van Celeste en Robert, is anderhalf jaar geleden overleden aan leukemie. Celeste heeft het er nog atijd heel moeilijk mee en sluit zich af van iedereen. Maar dan vraagt de zus van Robert of ze 5 dagen op hun zoontje Bruno kunnen passen, omdat ze met hun verhuis bezig zijn.
Celeste denkt dat ze het niet aankan, maar ze wordt min of meer gedwongen om toe te geven, omdat er zogezegd geen andere oplossing is.
En eigenlijk meteen vanaf het begin is Celeste helemaal vertederd van Bruno, die even oud is als Jack was toen hij stierf. Binnen de kortste keren begint Celeste te ontdooien en weer levenslust de krijgen, en als Bruno dan ook nog over een speciale gave blijkt te beschikken, is ze eindelijk in staat om Jack los te laten en verder te gaan met haar leven.
Heel aangrijpend boek(je). Santa Montefiore kan op beeldende wijze alle emoties en gevoelens weergeven.
Doordat het boek zo kort is, is er natuurlijk niet veel plaats voor uitweidingen. Daardoor blijft onze kennis over de familieleden en wat ze meegemaakt hebben natuurlijk beperkt, alles is beknopt uitgelegd.

Słaby ten książkowy początek roku. Mam wrażenie, że prawie każda czytana przeze mnie książka, wywołała we mnie w pierwszej fazie czytania emocje i zachwyty, a potem nagle to wszystko się gdzieś rozpływało.

To moje pierwsze spotkanie z twórczością Montefiore. Bardzo polecały mi ją czytelniczki w bibliotece, w której pracuję.

"Miłość matki" jest bardzo cienką pozycją (część tego wydania to fragment innej powieści autorki). Opowieść o stracie dziecka, o radzeniu sobie z żałobą. Ciężko się to czytało mając córkę niedaleko siebie.

Gdyby autorka na końcówce nie skręciła w stronę w jaką skręciła to ocena byłaby wyższa. Dla mnie było tego już za dużo. Wszystko stało się dla mnie mało realistyczne. Szkoda, bo to była smutna, ale też budująca historia rodzicielstwa.

Heel vlot boek. Bevat verschillende korte romantische verhalen.

Not only is the storyline very predictable, it is rather simple as well, in the negative connotation, that is. There are so many aspects that could have been elaborated, so many options to further evolve the characters, so many angles to touch the reader's emotions, and none of them have been used. And finishing the book in this particular way is, really, astonishing, again in its negative connotation. I'd say that the book might be experienced as an insult to those people whom actually lost a child.

Ik las het boek aan één stuk door uit. Het is een ontroerend verhaal over een koppel dat de dood van hun 8-jarig zoontje probeert te plaatsen. Gedurende 5 dagen zorgen ze voor hun neefje. De komst van het neefje brengt tal van gevoelens naar boven, maar geeft ook weer zin aan het dagelijkse leven van het koppel. Het einde is heel ontroerend en liet me zeker niet onberoerd.

Het is een kort boek, maar perfect. Het verhaal is uitvoerig beschreven en vraagt niet om meer pagina's.

Ik lees niet vaak andere genres dan een thriller maar over dit verhaal had ik al zoveel positieve dingen gehoord en gelezen dat ik deze wel een kans moest geven. Wat een prachtig en ontroerend verhaal. Normaal ben ik niet zo van de paranormale dingen maar dat hoort gewoon in dit verhaal. Ik heb echt genoten van dit verhaal(tje)

Ontroerend feelgood verhaal van slechts 65 pagina's. Celeste en Robert hebben anderhalf jaar geleden hun 8-jarig zoontje Jack verloren aan leukemie en sindsdien heeft Celeste zich in haar intense verdriet afgesloten van alles en iedereen. De komst van hun levenslustige - nu eveneens 8-jarig - neefje Bruno (zoon van Roberts oudere zus Georgia), die geheel tegen Celestes zin enkele dagen bij hen moet logeren omdat hij volgens Roberts moeder nergens anders terecht kan, maakt dat Celeste zich langzaamaan weer open stelt voor het leven, de liefde en de mooie dingen om zich heen.

Lovely, comfortable simple story of pain and recovery following the death of a child. The subject is too ghastly for any parent to contemplate, but its treatment here is warm, supportive and satisfying. Its a short story and a very quick read and I enjoyed it a lot as it followed a gloomy dystopian book which I did not like and this brought a simple charm to a difficult subject. Her books are always worth reading.

A short, but very pleasant novella, maybe one of the best books of Santa Montefiore that I listened to. The end is quite surprinsing. The book is also very well narrated. It is an easy, emotional book, which made me feel human and I warmly recommend it to those who want to spend time listening to something interesting which may take you back to times when life was not so complicated although not deprived of problems and tragedies.

ik vond het boek zeer goed. Het laat je ook oog in oog staan met de werkelijkheid en de leed waar sommige mensen mee te maken hebben. Wat ik het beste vond aan het boek was dat je op het laatste kon voelen door het boek te lezen hoe blij de moeder was toen ze het geheim van Bruno had ontdekt. Ik raad dit boek dus zeker aan en vond het de moeite om het te lezen.

Being only 110 pages long, it doesn't take much time to read this story. It was enjoyable and the idea of an afterlife is something I've been reading a lot about. I agree with other reviews in that it had the possibility to have been made into a longer novel but sometimes short and sweet is just enough.

A Mother's Love was a short, sweet read about a woman who has recently lost her son. When she reluctantly agrees to look after her nephew for a few days, she realises the joy of having a little boy back in the house again. Emotionally charged, this story about love, life and death was touching.
