Sharkchild's second collection of short fiction, assembled from his podcast stories. Once again, there is a tremendous amount of imagination on display here. Stories range from very modern, present-day, horror stories to weird, dream-space works, to dark, timeless, fantasy, bearing the apparent influences of writers like Lovecraft, Kafka, and Ligotti. In the Dark Verse, strange monsters step out from the interstices of reality, the realms of the afterlife, and the gloomy corners of people's dera ...more

Good fun. I took my time with this, never reading more than one story per day. Great imagery, definitely heavy Lovecraft inspiration. Looking forward to next volume.

The Dark Verse, Vol 2: In the Blood of Death is a masterfully crafted and illustrated book of 26 short stories regarding the soul on the brink of death; each subject is harassed and manipulated by channeled energies of the universe. While the dark ethereal beings feed on the human vessels' spirits to sustain their existence, the humans find themselves teetering between life, death, or somewhere in-between.

Both volumes from The Dark Verse series are well-written, but volume 2 surpasses the bar s

Before I get into the review of THE DARK VERSE, VOLUME 2: IN THE BLOOD OF DEATH, I need to state up front that I have not read Volume 1, however doing so is not necessary to enjoy Volumes 2 or 3 of this series. Now that my preface is done, I will simply state this about the book (Volume 2): do yourself a favor and buy this series at all costs.

I rarely rave about a book unless it is outstanding on every front. Books I rant about are written well, are thoroughly original, and are almost flawless

Another collection of florid proems and short stories. It's important to note that these were originally podcasts that were collected as a book. As such, I think the stories are meant to be read out loud. The stories themselves seem much of a similar quality as the previous collection, with more of an emphasis on the cosmic rather than dreams. The subjects of the stories are frequently nameless protagonist, and are told in first person. They often seem like the author himself. The ideas for the ...more

Great book

In my opinion just as good as the first. The stories are great. Doesn't take long to read through the entire book

Great atmosphere

Like most anthologies I enjoyed some stories better than others but I did find that overall this collection has a wonderfully creepy atmosphere. Some of the titles and illustrations were difficult to make out in the ereader version, which made it a bit harder to keep track of which stories I enjoyed.
