Pirates are dangerous men, yet I can't help but find a fascination with them--especially with the "good" ones. The story begins with Senona fleeing Spain the night before her arranged marriage. She finds a pirate who will take her and her horse and get them away quickly. Brant, a privateer, knows this evil pirate's reputation and kidnaps Senona in order to help and protect her.

Of course, I was intrigued by their journey on the ocean. I came to really enjoy the characters and their strengths and

Heart Like an Ocean is not the typical romance novel. Senona, the main character, is headstrong, tough, slightly naive due to her protected upbringing. She is beautiful but she doesn't flaunt it which makes her an even more attractive heroine.

Steendam's leading man Captain Brant is an intriguing character. You love to hate him but also want to love him. The historical journey of a high society girl living the life on a pirate ship and becoming a pirate herself is one that I immersed myself in, t

What impressed me most about ‘Heart Like an Ocean’ was the author. It is a historical romance novel, and yet, Christine Steendam is in her twenties. Maybe it’s the values, which I see so rarely nowadays, and the fact she wrote a compelling and heartfelt novel without resorting to gratuitous language and sex.

‘Heart Like An Ocean’ takes you on a true adventure across the seas with fascinating and stubborn characters you’ll want to shake your fists at in frustration, but cheer for them at the same

From page one, Christine Steendam had me hooked and caring about what happened to Senona, a character that I could identify with even though we are separated by centuries. Christine does an awesome job of showing how human emotion and desire flows as one across the expanse of time ... and oceans. I don't want to give any spoilers, but rest assured that you'll feel the roll of every tide right along with Senona and the ending is not one that you'll be able to guess! Can't wait for more from this ...more

I haven’t read a Historical Romance in a while, as you can tell from all the reviews that I have been posting, but when I was asked to do a review for Christine Steendam’s book Heart like an Ocean, I couldn’t pass up that opportunity!

I personally use to read historical romances all the time; they were my favorite type of book. But like with many books these days, it seems as though you are reading the same book over and over. In the case of this book, there were so many twists and times that I

I loved this book so much. It is Senona's story, her journey. She is a great character. Strong, brave, intelligent. She makes some choices that others don't agree with, but she does what is best for herself, and she grows a lot over the course of the book. All of the characters are very human. Add to that the unexpected twists in the story and you get a book that I couldn't put down. It is quite a ride and you just have to hold on and have faith that things will work out the way they should. The ...more

Heart like an Ocean was exactly what I was expecting and not at all what I was expecting. I typically don't seek horse/romance/pirate-type books, and this isn't something you would want to read if you like an edge-of-your-seat kind of read, but it was nice change. While I agree with some of the other reviews that it would be nice to "see" rather than be told, I found it genuine and enjoyable. I have to say, there were a few times I wanted to slap both Brant AND Senona, so I was definitely emotio ...more

It was nice to read a romance book where the main character valued integrity and commitment over passion. I also liked seeing the characters grow and become better people, helping each other see their faults and learn from them. Looking forward to reading more about these characters.
