Smug the pug is a clever dog who has invented a brilliant machine to help things run smoothly in Mrs. Fudge's busy salon. Mrs. Fudge and Pippa Peppercorn, the girl who often works in the salon thinks it is a great idea but Dash the dachshund has his suspicions about this so-called doggy genius. The message of this book is that although smug is intelligent, he might fail someday because he is being too selfish and proud.
