GOOD: The characteristics of a 3 star book include: interesting characters, a decent storyline, and unique story elements; there was something about the story that I didn’t completely connect with; the book will never be a star player but definitely made the team. I would recommend to a friend.

I was pulled into this one pretty much from page one due to the vibrant world and characters that the author has created here. It is only due to limited time to read that it took me several days to finish, for it really does read quickly, even for a slow reader like me. The author's ability to convince you that something is one way and then show you how it's not anything like that is impressive, though I can't say that the work is without fault

Ms. Para Ora has done it again, creating a unique world for her wonderful characters to inhabit. There is almost a gothic feel to this, with the illicit love between an Initiate and the one man who shouldn't have her love. I was so glad to see the story resolve as it did, and it left me with a smile. Ashland is a terrific heroine, one who is brave enough to question the world around her, and Cirian, the perfect tortured hero. The author keeps you guessing right until the satisfying end.

This was my first “Nulli Read” and I enjoyed it very much! As soon as I saw the cover with her beautiful peek-a-boo hood, determined eyes, and that extremely ornate castle in the background, it instantly went on my to read list!

Set in a time where the Kingdom of Minra is protected by the duty of the Initiates ( townsfolk who willingly offer themselves for the chance of being the kings next companion for a ritual of keeping him...alive). They are c

If you like to read books about romance, and hate putting them down once you've started, stop reading this review right now and get Initiate.

Paranormal author Nulli Para Ora delivers a mind-blowing reading experience with Initiate. From the very first page you are drawn into a world that challenges the notion of "the greater good" as you follow Ashland on a journey that she had no intention of starting. Even as she is being whisked away toward an uncertain future, she plots her resistance to th

Great short story! I admit that this is the first of her books that I have had a chance to read more than a few paragraphs.

I was interested in the premise of the store from the first moment I read the blurb and it did not disappoint. I liked the premise of the story. Ashland is a woman chosen for "the honor of giving her life to feed her king" - against her will - and how her struggle will change their world forever.

I was impressed with the character development even though the story is only nov

For starters, this book is well-written and well-edited. It flows (fast) and has an original story.

The characters are likeable, the world-building solid and the sex plenty and steamy.

I felt some things could have been developed more, and that some parts were rushed with a lot of "telling" rather than "showing", but not enough to flag it as a problem with the book. I'm sure most people wouldn't even notice.

My single criticism is with the dialogue, which is somewhat too "modern", at times, in a

I read this book for the Gotta Have Paranormal Romance with a Kick group's newbies vs vets challenge. I loved this story. The beginning made me think of Hunger Games meets Mulan. All the eligible people standing in a line with their parents hoping they get the honor to be chosen.

At first I thought this would be a story similar to Scheherazade where the woman woos the king by entertaining him. I was wrong. It's much more than that. I really liked Ashland. She was not afraid to make her thoughts

I REALLY enjoyed this book. It's unexpected--the premise hooked me and the delivery was completely satisfying. The book does not go the way you might expect and it's very original and lovely. I enjoyed it and highly recommend if you want a sensual, inventive romantic read. Will definitely pick up more books by this author!!

I really enjoyed this story. It was a fun, hot, quick read with intriguing characters. The story moved fast and was entertaining the entire way through, with a surprising but satisfying ending. I'm very much looking forward to reading more by this author!

Oh man, I think I chewed a hole through my lip. This. Book. Was. HOT! I am just sorry that I didn’t read this sooner. Nulli Para Ora has delivered an exceptional and unique paranormal romance that will grip the reader in from start to finish. Nulli also has a an excellent talent for stringing together a charming narration and dialogue amongst the characters; capturing a readers heart.

The characters and their development and the relationships that form between each other are certainly remarkable

As a lover of fantasy, as well as paranormal romance, this book rubbed me in all of the right places.

The world-building was strong with backgrounds on many different characters and the history of Ashland (our heroine) was clearly laid out along with her mentality regarding her situation in the world. I felt that she was realistic, vibrant and interesting. The initiate concept, where the young people of the villages are being used as sacrifices to the king, is fascinating. It is interesting to se

This is my first book by Nulli Para Ora.
I liked how Ashland thought for herself to develop her own opinions istead of regurgitating what everyone says. It did cause her grief sometimes, however she was always honest with her opinions.
Cirian is a very honorable man who puts his duty to the king above all else. When Cirian finally gives into his attraction to Ashland, it complicates his life. He needs to do his duty to the king by training her, however in his heart he just wants to keep her to hi

There are no words to describe how much I enjoyed Initiate by Nulli Para Ora. From the very first page until the last, I was hooked! If not for the battery of my e-reader dying, I would've finished this book in one sitting. Cirian was an incredibly sexy hero. Oh, that hooded face (shivers....) Ashland was a heroine with a kick-ass attitude, just like I like them. I highly recommend Initiate to anyone who enjoys an absorbing fantasy-type read!

This novella is like a paranormal fairytale with a Stockholm Syndrome twist. I liked it. Short read...but a lot packed into a small box. It was a good surprise. I did think Cirian could have been a stronger character though.

This is fun quick read. I finished the novella in one sitting, and it took me about 1.5 hours (I read fast). Fans of forbidden love and heroine-in-peril tropes will enjoy this story. Fantasy RPG fans will also really like this (hero's journey with swords, magic, and a romantic twist).

The blurb makes Initiate sound a bit dark, but I felt the tone of the entire book was pretty light-hearted. The two main characters are well-developed and memorable. For a novella-length work, there is quite a bit

This was a very fun and unique story. The pacing of the story was good and the characters were well written. There was a couple of spots that I felt could have been more expanded but still it was a really good read and I recommend it if you are looking for a quick, enjoyable, fantasy story with a happy forever after.

What I liked about it was the plot was very unique and the characters very clear. I loved the characters in the story. Ashland was a really great main character. I love her voice an

In the land of Minra, Companions and Initiates are chosen from neighboring villages and considered a great honor to be chosen. Ashland of Valen doesn't want to be chosen because it's barbaric practice that no one questions. Ashland speaks her mind no matter the cost or how rude it seems to be. Ritual Master Cirian wonders why this one girl doesn't think it's an honor to be apart of the choosing. Ritual Master Cirian is up for the challenge that Initiate Ashland presents. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The romance was believable and I'm a sucker for romances where at the start of the book the characters fight and argue nonstop. Imagine living in a kingdom where the young are raised and trained to one day possibly give their life to the king so that he can keep on living. Most people consider it an honor and a great sacrifice, not Ashland she throws an entire different point of view into the matter and shakes things up at the castle. This book is a quick and ente ...more

What an enjoyable story! I became involved in this story from the beginning and remained there until the end.

The heroine of the story Ashland is determined, sharp witted and sassy. The hero Cirian is every bit her equal with his thought evoking retorts. Their banter is a humorous thing of beauty. Kendrick is an unexpected pleasure with his sweet nature. The characters are truly enjoyable.

I highly recommend this story to everyone. It is a fun fast read.

I would love to read more about this kingd

I truly enjoyed this book! Ashland was just awesome. She sure had conflicted emotions and didn't quietly go to what she feared could be her death. She made me laugh at some of the things she said.
The relashionship between Ashland and Cirian was written beautifully. Cirian was so conflicted , and I loved it when he gave in to his feelings (view spoiler). They were hot together!
The ending was a surprise, and also pretty beautiful.

Ever so often a book comes along that sticks with me long after the final page. Initiate is just such a book. I loved, loved, loved (did I say loved?) Nulli's tale of forbidden romance between a tortured hero and a bold heroine. Cirian beyond words. Ashland was brave and mouthy and exactly what I like to see in a heroine. I think my Nook caught on fire at one point I was flipping pages that fast! If you're looking for something completely fresh in the world of romance, be sure ...more
