A whole new world opens up to the reader in this story about diamond harvesting, trade, and sale in Africa, Ireland, and the USA. Easy reading, very informative...I won this book on librarything.

Deadly Diamonds by John Dobbyn (Oceanview Publishing, September 3, 2013, 304 pages, $26.95) is the fourth in the Knight and Devlin series of mystery thrillers set in Boston. The plot revolves around the abduction of Kevin O'Byrne, the spoiled son of a Boston Irish mob boss Frank O'Byrne, who has apparently taken a joy ride in the new Cadillac of an Italian gangster only to discover the dead body of one of the thug's capos in the trunk. Kevin is soon indicted for the murder, placing Knight under

Book Review & Giveaway: We reviewed Black Diamond a while back and I’ve been looking forward to reading another John Dobbyn novel ever since. So I was excited when the publisher sent me Dobbyn’s newest novel in the Knight & Devlin legal thriller series, Deadly Diamonds.

This series features a Boston attorney team who just can’t stay away from trouble despite the best of intentions, and each novel I’ve read has an international element to it. Deadly Diamonds is no exception. Before you get concer

I loved the mafia-themed story and the twists and turns involved. It just felt "unreal" how some things fell into place, the ease with which they get away with tight situations, how they pull off stunts easily, and how seemingly well practiced or experienced Johnny Walker was in dealing with thugs/the mafia/RUF without a hint of hesitation or fear. But even with this in mind, the author was able to maintain the interest in readers and push away all doubts in the hopes of finding a resolution.

This is the fourth in Dobbyn's series of a brash Harvard lawyer dealing with the Irish and Italian mafias plus the blood diamond trade in Sierra Leone, Africa. I enjoy reading Dobbyn's novels because they have a great story line, plenty of suspense, and the writing is excellent. This is a page turner. The only difficulty is that some assumptions stretch believability, but because the story is so good, I didn't care.

Although this legal thriller starts quite well, it rapidly devolves into an absurd plot in which our lawyers team up with the IRA and an amazingly sophisticated man from Sierra Leone to bring everyone to justice, kill some of the bad guys and rescue missing family.

To be avoided.

Another rollicking adventure involving the Knight/Devlin duo. Belief must always be suspended when reading this series, but in my opinion, they are fun reads and I have enjoyed them all. Look forward to book #5

Really good mystery/adventure, but I felt the ending was a bit too perfect. I would be interested in other reviews.
