The reluctant hero from Alien Invasion and Other Inconveniences is back in all his droll glory — and this time the fate of humankind is on the line.

Jesse has had the worst year of his life. First a race of homicidal (but very polite) aliens invaded Earth, killing pretty much everyone and enslaving the few people left behind, including Jesse; his best friend, Michael; his s

Yansky puts real human emotions into spacey background. Hero tells of growing mind powers, young love, fighting scary aliens, power-hungry people, self-doubt. I'd read more from Yansky. ...more

It’s a YA, sci-fi novel set right after most of humanity has been destroyed by a race of machine hating, green plant loving, and ridiculously polite psychic aliens.

Don’t be put off if you haven’t read the first book (though I’m guessing you’ll want to after you read Homicidal Aliens, so you might as well get them both). Brian Yansky does a great job of bringing new readers up to speed quickly and interestingly. And he does it without a big, clunky “previously on” opener. Homicidal Aliens does st

Not very often I begin a review with LOL! but in this case I feel I must, so LOL!!!

First of all, this book begins with something interesting happening. I like that in sci fi and fantasy titles. Rather than there being a long setup of all the characters and unnecessary back story, the author tells it like it is and gets straight to the point. I respect that in a book.

Here are some of the things that I also loved about this book and what made me decide to give it a full five stars:

The humour. I

I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one, Alien Invasions and Other Inconveniences. Interestingly, the series is only two books so it is a quick read to a feeling of resolution with these characters. Part of what makes this story so enjoyable is the humor that is laced throughout what should arguably be a horrifying situation. I mean aliens are taking over the earth and killing people in droves. Somehow Yansky manages to distract from the horror while still emphasizing the gravity of th ...more

I thought it was a pretty good book. Although there were a few parts that I skipped over because they weren't interesting, but I'm pretty sure all books have that. I did have the opportunity to meet the author and get an insight on his writing process which may be accounted for an extra star. The plot was unique but great. The only negative thing I'd have to say is the short summary on the inside flap of the hard book cover is a bit confusing and may give off some bad image... ...more

Homicidal aliens have invaded the earth and a small group of survivors with possible telepathic abilities decide to fight the invasion. A teen with super-human telepathic abilities becomes The Chosen, and heroically fights the aliens. Fast-paced, fresh voice in teen's sarcastic POV, suspenseful. My only issue with this book was that I didn't get a clear mental picture of the aliens, which would have added a lot to the horror and suspense for teens. Second in a "duology," but stands alone. ...more

I think this book was almost better than the first. Lots of twists and turns, action, and of course more death. This series will be enjoyed by reluctant readers, especially boys, and of course sci-fi fans.

Full disclosure--I worked on this book, so I am a bit biased. But it is a fun sci fi romp.

I write fiction. It has funny bits and serious bits. Sometimes on the same page.

Brian Yansky, like most fiction writers, writes from a parallel universe. He just carries it a step further and writes about the parallel universe in his new series, The Poe Detective Agency. His Poe Detective novels are independently published (except for the audio version which was picked up by a small press). He's p
