For every rule, there’s an exception

Ardan Boyle has spent the majority of his life as a freelance assassin. Working throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East, he only accepts contracts for the most vile of criminals, for those who have made themselves 'above the law'. His success can be measured in the reduction of criminal filth in the Old World but even this service to

What a great start to a series... I am already SooOoo invested in this... Loved it!!

I picked this up on a whim, no idea why, except I probably have a thing for Assassins! Mmmmm!?! Anyway, I am so very glad I did as I was totally engrossed and loved it, it’s only short so it wont take long to read but it is so worth it!

This is the first in a series of books which revolve around the two main characters Arden Boyle an Assassin and Brad Myles a Salesman and wannabe Actor. This book is told from Ard

The romance derailed the story for me, it was to fast and I found it hard to believe that Ardan the assassin would fall for Brad in an instant. His suspicious attitude goes up in smoke? For Brad a virtual stranger and almost immediately he trusts him? Their first meeting would have had the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end, yelling "its a trap"! Nope Ardan has no such thoughts and jumps right in, throws caution to the wind and his training out the door. I don't see how this

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was short and fairly well done but I had some issues with it.

First, the positives: I really enjoyed the assassin angle (reminded me of Warrior's Cross). I haven't read too many M/M books of this type so it was a nice change of pace. I have a thing for a guy who knows how to handle a gun (in my fiction reading only, thank you very much!). I also really liked the fact that Ardan was so sexually unaware of himself. It made him seem a bit sweet and vulner

Wow. Not what I was expecting. It had meat to the story and I found it to be a very believable assassin POV. I love the fact the series is going to deal with the same couple. What a plus nowadays. I can't wait to see what Cailtin has up her sleeve with book two.

As for speed and suspense, this book actually didn’t leave much to be desired for my action-loving reader’s heart.

The main character’s distinctive, catchy narrative voice gripped me from word one. Ardan Boyle, the 1st person POV narrator, is one of the best hitmen money can buy. If he accepts a job, he gets it done, fast and clean by preference but he doesn’t shy away from messy if necessary. He has never been caught since he sticks by a set of rigid rules the most important of which is never to

Characters were poorly developed. The plot was infuriatingly incomplete.

+ the characters

Ardan was established as a disciplined assassin, but the carefree way he acted towards Brad vastly undermined his role. He recently completed a mission so to have a stranger like Brad come up and chat him should have put Ardan on alert. Ardan should have been suspicious of Brad and done a background check at the least. Should have this, should have that — Ardan never did. Instead, what I got was a clumsy gett

And this was a weird book for me. In general the action genre is one of my favorites and if you throw an assassin in there it rapidly becomes a top priority for me. The downside of course are expectations, you know since you really, really like the genre you expect a mind-blowing read. This was far from it.

Ardan has spent his entire adult life (we don’t know how old he is, unless by some miracle I missed it) killing people. He’s an assassin and a damn good one. There are rules to his

Killer Contingency #1: Reactivated is Caitlan West's first foray into M/M Erotic Romance. I have not read any of her M/F stories, so I can't compare the styles, but I can say that this isn't my favorite M/M story I have read. I usually love Assassin stories, but this one was just rushed. Once Ardan and Brad get together it is kinda "insta-love" which I don't like to see in a story. Especially one where the main character is unsure of his sexuality as Ardan is. He has been an assasin for so long ...more

3.5 stars, rounded up

A quick start to a series about a worn out assassin who meets a man who makes him want to walk away from his profession and settle down. Unfortunately, others do not agree. The characters are written well. The story is written well, though rushed. I kind of had a hard time (in the beginning) watching the hardened assassin (Arden) give up control so easily in the presence of the other man (Brad). It did not take long, however, for me to understand it and to see where the auth

I love books with assassin!!!!!!

This is pretty good IMO. The story was told from the assassin's POV, it sounds kind of cold, dry and distance in the beginning. Since it's what required in his character to have the jobs done, I think it's strangely suitable. There's not so much action, only one kill in the beginning of the book, the others were his flashbacks.
It's interesting to see how Ardan the assassin turned from a cold and asexual person to be a more normal person who seeks human contact. H

The concept for this book had "me" written all over it: Cold, callus assassin meets lively actor who awakens something long thought dead.

This book just misses by being uncomfortable and awkward.

Ardan Boyle - Professional assassin, arrogant, apathetic and calculating.

Brad Myles - This is where it falls apart for me. Brad is supposed to be fresh, lively, warm and real, but I just didn't feel him.

Brad could have benefited from a POV, while Ardan could ha

This is the first book I’ve read by Caitlin West and it definitely won’t be my last. Once I read the blurb I admit I was pretty excited to read this book. Who can resist an assassin who falls for an ordinary Joe? Not me…

The blurb does an excellent job of describing the gist of the storyline, so I won’t rehash a lot of it. The book is told in first person through Ardan’s (the assassin) point of view. When the book begins Ardan is about to kill a mark. Now, e

A good new start for the series. This was really a tease. I wanted to read more of the book, right now! LOL

A story about man , Arden, who knows nothing about life than being an assassin meets a wannabe-actor-turned-businessman, Brad, in an airport. The book was written from the POV of Brad. His narration comes out detached from his feelings (which captures his personality to a tee!) Since he lived a life of discipline, his personal experience constitutes only of his "hits" and people he knows f

I was excited to find out there would be more from these 2 guys. This is the first book I’ve read by Caitlin West and it definitely won’t be my last. I loved the flash backs into Ardan's life which leaves me to worry about how things will prgress when he has to leave in 4 short days and what Brad will do if/when he ever finds out who/what Ardan is. I loved how big bad Ardan who is an assasin was shy toward Brad being he is so inexperienced in the sex/love dept. There time together to me was swee ...more

It was OK. The story was predictable, but it held my attention. Luckily it was a short book. The biggest problem though is that it didn't really go anywhere. Well I guess it is better described as nothing really happened (from an action standpoint anyway). Then it ended abruptly. I get that the writer was setting the story up for a second book. I just felt as if this story was just beginning. For me it would have been a better ending to have the main character complete the final job he is offere ...more

The narrative actually kind of reminds me of this book I read once written by an ex-FBI sniper talking about - what else? - being/becoming an FBI sniper.

I don't quite know if I like the fact that he's Irish of the suspender-wearing variety because that seems to...make him all caricature-ish.

Nonetheless, I do kind of want to know what's going to happen next. -Ish.
