My first book by Susan May Warren and I loved it! Can't wait to read more about this family!

I love the Christiansen Family series! This first book got me hooked on the drama, angst, emotion, hope, and romance. I love how the characters come to life and I feel like I know them. Highly recommend this book and the whole series!

I am so glad I took a chance on this novel. I absolutely loved it! The story gripped my heart from beginning to end. Following the lives of 3 best friends and a new comer was interesting, exciting, and at times heartbreaking. The events that led each character to where they are at this point in time were each traumatizing in it's own way, but watching them grow, triumph, and overcome their pasts gave me immense satisfaction in the story. I probably shouldn't have started reading Take a Chance on Me right before bedtime on a school night. Then the next day the book distracted me from grading papers. This became slightly dangerous when my students realized I had a new book by one of their favorite authors. But it was worth the risk. Yes, Take a Chance on Me was that good.

This romantic story is the first in Susan May Warren's new series about The Christiansens: six adult siblings and their parents. What's this book about? Two bes

I read Take a Chance on Me in just a few sittings...would've been one if I didn't have a little thing called a day job getting in the way. But I absolutely adored this first book in Susan May Warren's new Deep Haven spin-off series. She's set up a wonderfully fun and unique family with characters I know I'm going to enjoy getting know more and more in subsequent books.

As for the main characters in Take a Chance, Darek and Ivy tug at your heart from the first chapter. Their backstories, their hop

There was a lot of great ratings and ravings over this series and I thought I should give this series a try, so when it was available at the library I made sure to get it before someone else gets to it.

I really enjoyed this story - Tiger was my favourite little character! Darek, Ivy, Jensen, Claire and Nan had so much emotions and struggles to work through, and the author did a great job in bringing the characters to life. This book portrayed just what unforgiveness and bitterness will do to a p

Take a Chance on Me by Susan May Warren

This is my first time reading the work of Susan May Warren and I'm impressed. Darek Christiansen and Ivy Madison are powerfully-written characters. Warren's wording grabbed my attention straight away and I read the book in one sitting.

I received this novel compliments of Tyndale House Publishers for my honest review. It's a delightful book! You'll most definitely want to take a chance on it!

I loved being introduced to the Christiansen family. Overall this story had a very real feel for me. Some of the characters were not very likeable at first. For example Darek and Jensen. But like in real life as I got to know more of there stories I could understand there behaviour. By the end I loved everybody and can not wait to read the next book in the series.

I can guess in advance that the best aspect of this series is going to be the family dynamics and the Deep haven community

This is the first novel in the series and features Darek Christiansen and his young son Tiger. The author states, “We are in this season of life…As you nurture your children, then guide them, then walk beside them…and finally stand back as they walk into life. And then you really start praying! These books are about those years…watching, hoping, praying your adult children into a legacy of faith.”

I instantly connected with Darek, Claire, and Jensen and was intrigued at how their lives had inters

Ivy Madison is the new county attorney in the small town of Deep Haven. She didn't know when she took the job that she drafted the plea bargain that has kept Jensen Atwood serving time of community service for killing the wife of Darek Christiansen. Darek is the town's most ineligible eligible bachelor. He's the eldest son and heir whose family runs the Evergreen Resort. He's a devoted father, but he's also hurt and angry over the death of his wife. As Ivy gets to know both Darek and his family, ...more

Susan May Warren is one of the best at creating a family of characters that leaps off the pages. Rugged Derek is heir to the Christiansen family's resort and should be on the top of every eligible bachelor's list. But, he's not. Angry over his wife's death at the hand of his best friend, he's determined to focus on his son and reviving his family's business.

When Ivy Madison moves to town, looking for a place to call home after a childhood of jumping from foster placement to foster placement, she

This is the first in a new series, The Christiansen Family. I listened to the audio version. We are introduced to the family and they are delightful. Darek, the eldest has had tragedy in his life, is now a widower raising a lively, rambunctious 5 year old son called Tiger. Ivy has longed to belong and be part of a family since her days in foster care. Claire is the daughter of a missionary couple who are doctors, who have specific plans for Claire, now age 25. Jensen is trying to complete commun ...more

It looks like it took an incredibly long time for me to read this, but that isn't really the case. I'm close to ocd about reading series in order. I knew that technically this was the first book in a series, but I recognized the town of Deep Haven, so backtracked and in the time since January 25 along with a number of other books I read all of the Deep Haven series. As several had told me, I wouldn't have been lost had I not done that, but it was fun recognizing names as I read, kind of getting ...more

Tragedy has been chasing Darek Christiansen from the moment he agreed to do the “right thing” by marrying the girl from his small hometown of Deep Haven. Instead of becoming a good husband and father, Darek was too busy travelling the country as one of the Hotshots, an elite firefighting team, leaving behind what should have been his greatest treasures. Now after a brief, tumultuous marriage, Darek’s wife Felicity died five years ago in a tragic accident and now the lovely

I love Susan May Warren's books and I especially love her books set in the small Minnesota town of Deep Haven. I wish it were a real town and I could go visit. She's set 6 books there already, I believe. They are all stand alone books but this time: she's written Take a Chance On Me, the first in a 6 book series about the Christiansen family.

I was fortunate enough to be on the launch team for this book and I am so glad to be given this book early. What a joy to hold another of Susan's books in m

I love finding a new book series to fall in love with! And that is what I feel has happened after reading Take a Chance on Me. This book was wonderful and introduced me to a family that I want to learn everything about. I have had this book on my Kindle for awhile, however, had not gotten around to reading it until now. I knew that I needed to read it, since I have book two waiting to be read and reviewed as part of an upcoming blog tour. I am so glad that I did.

This is the first book of Ms. Warren's that I have read. Let me just say that it will not be the last! I enjoyed this book immensely! The author portrays life in a small Minnesota town so well it makes you feel like an honorary resident of Deep Haven! Aside from the setting (which became a prominent character in it's own right!), what stood out to me the most was the incredible message of forgiveness, and the fabulous, utterly unforgettable characters. I loved both Ivy and Darek, but I think Cla ...more

Take a Chance on Me by Susan May Warren is a gem. Her characters are so real, I expected to look up and see Darek swaggering into my living room, dusty and sooty and asking for Tiger. Instead I got a limping cat who begged for more food, took one sniff, and stalked away.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes. Take a Chance on Me.

Darek Christiansen has his hands full taking care of his five-year old son and running the family resort on Lake Evergreen, outside of Deep Haven, Minnesota. He has no time for dat

A beautiful story of redeeming love, grace, mercy & second chances.

I especially enjoyed Jenson & Claire's story.

What can I say except that I loved this book! Which is kind of weird because it took me so long to read this book. I said I would read it in exchange for some truthful reviews. I’m kind of a stubborn person, and the thought of having to read a book felt like school work (if you must know I didn’t like any of the books that I had to read for school) so I put off reading it. Then it got some good reviews, and I was afraid to be the person who didn’t like it. So I put it off some more. But once I f ...more

WOW! This is one of those books that grabs you from the first page and does not turn lose until the last page. If you've never read a Susan May Warren book, you're in for a treat. If you have, you'll soon discover that this is by far her best book!

Although a spin off from her Deep Haven series, it's not a requirement to read the six book series prior to reading Take A Chance On Me. For me, having previously read the Deep Haven series, it was nice to visit with old friends - Deep Haven is a smal

Darek isn’t the only one whose world fell apart after Felicity’s death. Jensen, Claire, Ivy, Tiger, Nan – truly the entire community of Deep Haven was impacted by the accident. Three years have passed, but the pain and anger still lingers.

Ivy thought moving to Deep Haven would be an escape to a quiet community. Little did she know that she was settling right into the middle of this hurting people. Can this town forgive those “at fault” – and themselves – for all that has happened? Can they repai

Review on my blog:

I've read more than a dozen of Susan May Warren's books and I don't think any of them have disappointed me, so I wasn't surprised that I loved Take A Chance On Me.

There were so many things about Take A Chance On Me that I loved! I'll name a couple of them:

The Setting: I've only read a couple of Warren's "Deep Haven" novels, but I really liked how it was a small-town set in Minneso

This is the first book in the Christiansen Family Novel series. It was such a good read, and I am thrilled to know there is another book coming!
The Author shows how most of the characters in this story need to find forgiveness. They blame God for their circumstances, and won't take his gift of redemption.
Darek Christiansen is mad at the world, feels he has been handed a rotten deal, and the only good thing in his life is his 5 year old son Tiger. He was a willing player, but now feels life has n

Ivy Madison is Deep Haven's new Assistant County Attorney, and she's looking to put down roots and finally belong somewhere. Starved for love and family, a growing relationship with young widower Darek Christensen, looks like a dream come true. But sooner or later, Darek will learn the truth about her professional involvement in the light sentencing of his late wife's killer. And while she waits for that shoe to drop, a custody battle for Darek's five-year-old son also makes it to Ivy's desk.

I loved the characters and the intertwining stories, the setting is in a small town in the woods of Minnesota which I really appreciated. The ending was perhaps a little sweet and idealistic but in this case it was alright because after all isn't reading suppose to be an escape? I don't mind as long as there is depth and a good message and there was, quite happy, not earth shattering but I really enjoyed this book.
