One superior smirk from Michael Endicott convinces sixteen-year-old Georgia Barrett that the Devil wears Polo. His family may have founded the postcard-perfect New England town they live in, but Georgia’s not impressed. Even if he is smart, good looking, and can return Georgia’s barbs as deftly as he returns serves on his family’s tennis courts. After all, if Michael actua ...more

Example: He shakes his head and his mouth is quirked at one corner. I can't tell if he thinks I am sort of amusing or truly pathetic. It's especially hard to tell because we are both looking resolutely at the teacher so she can't accuse us of not paying attention. We talk out of the sides of our mouths, like gangsters in those old movies my dad likes to watch.

I wasn't sure what to expect from Stephanie's Snark and Circumstance (ebook)

I'm hoping that this is the first part of an ongoing story; a short 48 page novella, this story really only gives us a taste of these characters.

Georgia is a little pushy in her vegan believes and I had a hard time really liking her. She doesn't have a teenage voice to me. While I can really see the vegan teenager, I just felt like her struggle to make friends sounded more like an adult trying to relate to teens. We are told that she has struggled with making friends in the past to the point th

Oh, I just start to read and then finished so quickly and then I realized this is a novella ^^.
Teen version of another retelling of Pride and Prejudice. Not bad, quietly amusing and entertaining. Well, I guess I need to continue to read the next part soon :)

Maybe it’s the 200th anniversary, my new-found addiction to The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, or my long-standing crush on Colin Firth that was eternally cemented the first time I ever watched the BBC version (Episode four? Yeah, you get me.), but I have been borderline obsessed with Pride & Prejudice as of late. More than usual, anyway. So when I found out that Stephanie Wardrop’s Snark & Circumstance is the latest, greatest retelling of this ever-so-wonderful story, I pretty much leapt at the chance ...more

Snark and Circumstance is the first book in a series of novellas, and as such, felt a bit incomplete. I knew this going in though, and didn't let that influence my enjoyment of the story. Georgia Barrett is a sharp-witted vegan with an aversion to slicing and dicing animals for her high school biology class. Michael Endicott is a member of one of the founding families in their small New England town, recently kicked out of prep school. He's got an attitude as big as his family's influence. When ...more

Usually, I love reading novellas, but at the same time, I don’t. This is because while I love the amount of excitement or entertainment I can get from the amount of reading I have to do, but I’m still hungering for more of the characters and storyline I experience from it. When I was reading SNARK AND CIRCUMSTANCE, it was about the same case – it was short and sweet, but I still felt like I wanted to read more about Georgia and Mich

“Maybe that’s why he comes across as Mr. Glacier sometimes. He’s hard to take at times, but he’s not a bad person, even if Michael and I do come from different solar systems. Whole other galaxies. But sometimes, galaxies collide. Hard.”

The review for this novella is going to be short and sweet – just like it was. I read this one and the next two novellas in the series in a matter of a couple hours, in preparation for an upcoming blo

In 2012, I read a lot of short stories and novellas that ended up adding many books to my read shelf by means of which I overdid my reading goal. Then when the blog came up, these type of books took a backseat until I won author Stephanie Wardrop's books Snark and Circumstance and Charm and Consequence in a giveaway. The author and I had a fun time chatting till the time the books got to me.
So anyways, to the book. Unlike most readers, I do enjoy reading short stories but like most of them, I f

I received an e-ARC copy to review, but in no way does that impact my opinion.

Snark and Circumstance is literally dripping in sarcasm which I LOVE. I am a very sarcastic person. I can't stand up in front of a crowd of people and start cracking jokes. I have a real dry sense of humor, so I was able to easily relate to the main character Georgia.

The book was a lot shorter than I expected, so I flew through it within an hour maybe an hour and a half. The style of writing is simple. As far as how

When she gets partnered up with him in bio and tells him that she can't do the dissection he becomes even more aggravating.

Now weeks into school and still finding Michael the bane of her

I love Jane Austen. I had all of her works by the time I was 16 and have been a constant fan ever since. When the chance to read Snark and Circumstance popped up, I knew it would be a good fit for me. I love Wardrop’s fresh take on Austen and while I was frustrated that I will have to wait a bit for the next installment, I actually do appreciate the series aspect. To explain—-the book is being released as a serial ala Jane Austen style. I love this return to the way these books were originally r ...more

Cute short (emphasis on short) story... this is actually the first installment of this story. I think I would have enjoyed this version more if we had the whole story instead of an installment. I don't love the characters enough to continue the story in the next book, but if it had all been in one book then by the end of the book the characters may have grown on me more!

Georgia Barrett is a vegan who refuses to dissect a worm for Biology. She misses her best friend in Colorado, but is finally ma

It should have been one book but it was still pretty good. I'm a fan of Jane Austen and Jane Austen retellings so keep that in mind. However, aside from feeding my Jane Austen craving, I thought the characters were well developed, the story had enough happening that my interest was peaked throughout all 4 volumes, and the overall writing style was smooth and easy to read. Georgia, the Elizabeth-like character, was occasionally a bit over-zealous with her veganisms but that was kind of the point. ...more

I'm liking it so far but I wish this had been a whole bind-up book instead of 5 novellas.

It might be an idea for the author to explore, yeah?

There isn't much I can say about the characters at that point. The P&P similarities are not too glaringly obvious, even if this is certainly something I wouldn't have minded, seeing that I picked this book up for precisely the fact that it was a Pride and Prejudice retelling, but at least it won't put off the other readers that aren't as much of a fangirl a

This Jane Austen-inspired Novella put a fun twist on the old classic. Georgia's awesomely snarky voice was reminiscent of Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries series, and it was neat to see Ms. Wardrop's characters go through the (high school) trials of the Bennett sisters. I'm excited for the second novella to come out soon!

A cute modern (kinda') re-write of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, this is a 'serial' type of short story that ends abruptly and with a cliffhanger. It introduces us to the characters and main plot, but hasn't really ventured into the 'meat' of the story yet. Well-written and full of promise, I'm looking forward to the next book.

I love that everything isn't easily wrapped up in a neat bow by the end of this novella. Because real life is never neat and easy like that. But now, I'm anxious. I have to read the next installment!! :D

This was a fun read and cute twist on Pride and Prejudice. I won it in a giveaway and read it the next day! Its perfect for when you want light entertainment. I plan on reading the rest of the novellas.

It felt incomplete especially as it's advertised as a novella (five chapters.) I wouldn't even call this a novella, more of a 'chapter' that has become popular, as in those the story continues from one to the next.

Cute and fluffy story. This is not a complete book. I just wish that instead of 4 books it was 1 complete book. To me, it just doesn't make sense to charge separately for incomplete novellas. Anyhow, it was a fun read overall.

Really enjoyed this novella. Yes, it ended abruptly, but unlike a few others who've read it, I knew that was going to happen because it's part of a series. Anyway, I really liked Georgia's voice in this story and I'm looking forward to the next book.

Sometimes, you need to read cute little Austen-retelling novellas. They make you feel warm and happy inside. Ugh, I love this series. (Though I kinda feel like I'm cheating my Reading Challenge because these are all separate little novellas... woops.)
