GAHHH!!! Where to start, so Gabriel is now Death and Rhyn is now head of the counsel. Lizzy does a great job at updating us on where all the characters are now in their lives, I was especially happy to see the update on Rhyn and Katie (my fave couple from the series) "Dude, you have no f***king idea. My new shoes." She grimaced at the memory. "Knowing what's coming, I've never felt more alive than I do now."
When she stopped, the sound of waves filled the quiet.
"I made this awkward again, didn't I?" she said, embarrassed once more by the passion she put in her speech.
"Not for me," he replied. His eyes were warm, his features losing their gravity as he gave a genuine smile. "I don't know why our paths crossed tonight, but I'm glad they did."
"Really? I'm not freaking you out?"
"I admire your spirit and your passion. You make me feel human again."
"Good, I think," she replied.
They gazed at one another, the tension growing thicker.
"Is kissing a stranger on the beach under the full moon on your bucket list?" he whispered.
Definitely. Warmth bloomed within her while her heart beat with more excitement than a moth outside a lighted window. Surprised by her body's eagerness, Deidre said nothing.
"I'll take that as a yes."

If I'm remembering correctly, I jumped ship on this series after this book. But not because it's not a good book. It's a bit confusing, and I think I was just going to take a break from it and the next thing I know, weeks had turned to months. Then one day, unfortunately a few years later, I'm scrolling through Goodreads looking for my next book when I remember, oh, yeah…I loved Rhyn and Katie…oh shit, whatever happened to Gabriel and Deidre? And that brings us to present. Unfortunately, it had been so long I couldn't remember jack shit about the story line, which prompted the re-read. Fortunately, I love Rhyn and Katie just as much the second time around. I love Gabriel and human-Deidre, too. Plus, I feel like I have a much better handle on what the fuck is going on. Because it's…a lot. There's familiar faces, new faces, old deities, new deities, dead-dead Immortals coming back to life…there's just an awful lot happening. But it's a good read and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

"We're watching, but it's not easy balancing the Council, demons and a pregnant mate."
Gabe smiled at the look on Rhyn's face. "I need to visit more often."
"Dude, you have no fucking idea. I'd take a herd of demons over this shit. One day, she's begging me to fuck her every five minutes. The next, it's my fault she's gained twenty pounds. I told her to lay off the ice cream. Been on the couch for a week. I don't know where you're going, Gabe, but take me with you."
Gabe laughed. Despite Rhyn's frustration, there was affection on his face as he talked about his mate.
"I admit, I'd rather deal with the shit I'm dealing with than a woman," Gabe said.
"Still with Harmony?"
"Yeah."
"Hmmm." Rhyn was studying him again.
"Don't look at me like that. She's a good girl. Stable and…"
"Boring?"
"I was going to say drama-free," Gabe replied.
"Whatever."
"Like you know shit about relationships."
"I know that you'll know when it's right," Rhyn shot back. "I've been fucked since then, but I've got my Katie. You need your Katie. You're driving yourself into the grave."
"Good one," Gabe said, appreciative of his friend's humor.
Finding a mate wasn't a priority, not when he was trying to fix his world.

"I knew you'd come," Fate said.
Gabe studied the deity gazing up at him. He wasn't expecting Fate to crack a joke. Past-Death and Fate had been at each other's throats for as long as Gabe could remember. He'd never met the enigmatic deity, but he'd heard Past-Death go off about this man after every interaction.
"You didn't find that funny."
"I did," Gabe said, allowing a trace of a smile to slip free. "I don't know why I'm here."
"Because you're single-handedly destroying the universe. No pressure." Fate patted the sand beside him.
Gabe lowered himself into a crouch a few feet away, recalling the last time he'd been on a beach. He wanted more of the woman he'd sat with yet guessed he'd kill her if he was allowed. Or make love to her again. Or both.
"I'm doing something wrong, aren't I?" Gabe said.
"I'd say so. You've been fighting me since you took over."
"Not on purpose."
"That's what they all say," Fate replied. "Sometimes you need to acknowledge the path at your feet and just go with it."
"Fucking deities speaking in riddles," Gabe muttered.
"Maybe it's easier than you're making it out to be."
"Or maybe you all should consider making instruction manuals before dumping your duties and walking away."

"What'd you do to piss him off?" Rhyn asked. "He's a raving lunatic out there right now."
"Piss him off?" Deidre repeated. "He killed my boyfriend! Chopped his head off right in front of me!" Her throat was too tight to say more.
"Good man. I would've done the same."
Deidre had the sense of being late to a conversation. She wasn't able to catch up, though, not with the absolute weirdness of it all. Alcohol buffered her from her all-out panic, enough so that she was able to sip coffee without dropping the mug. At the strong flavor, she glanced at Daniela, who winked. The coffee was half-filled with brandy.
"Gabriel is Death," Rhyn said.
Deidre looked up. "You said he was alive."
"Death, not dead. Soul collector, grim reaper, death-dealer, assassin, Keeper of Souls. Death," he said. "That's why he wears the trench coat all year round. The underworld doesn't have direct sunlight."
"I'll play along." She held her face in her hands. "He wants to kill me, because he's Death and that's what Death does."
"Oh, no." The man's chuckle was terrifying.
Daniela slapped him on the back of the head.
"Goddammit, woman, I heard you the first time!" he snarled at the nun. With an annoyed shake of his head, he addressed Deidre again. "He'll have to tell you that story. Anyway, now, by Immortal law, you're his mate, so he legally has to protect you instead of get revenge. That's why his name is on your back, by the way. You have a list of enemies longer than mine, and he's obligated to protect you."
"Of course," Deidre said, fighting tears. She chugged the coffee.
"You're handling this better than I expected."
"Rhyn," Daniela said with a sigh. "You're clearly terrifying the poor girl."
"She needs to learn her place fast."
Deidre dropped her head into her arms, sobbing. Nothing they said made sense. All she could do is hope she passed out and awoke in her bed or on the beach or not at all. Her body grew heavy, and she slumped.
"You spiked her coffee," Rhyn accused Daniela.
"And drugged her. She'll be out in two minutes, but she should be…manageable when she wakes up. Now, catch her before she hits her head. She needs to rest."

"You look like you're about to pass out," Hannah said.
"Rough week," Deidre whispered.
The kids were talking to her, but she was having trouble focusing on anything outside of keeping the buzzing in her ears from pushing her beyond tunnel-vision into the darkness. Everyone knew her somehow or about the Immortals, and she was lost.
Hopefully, I'm dead in three months.
One of the kids handed her a handful of cotton balls while another put a doll in her lap. Uncertain what to do with either, she kept them. The kids seemed entranced by her pink hair. Someone brought her a colorful picture book.
"Read!" the little girl demanded.
Deidre struggled to focus.
"What Humans Eat," she read the title. "Really?"
The girl nodded.
"Okay. Why not." Deidre flipped to the first page. The little girl pushed the pages until satisfied, and Deidre didn't have the mental power to tell her it wasn't normal to start mid-book.
"Do humans eat plants?" she asked, eyes on the illustration.
"Yes!" a couple of voices chorused.
"Yes, humans eat many vegetables, like lettuce, broccoli, and carrots," she read and turned the page. "Do humans eat rocks?"
"No!" the kids replied.
"No, humans do not eat rocks. You should never feed a human a rock, even by mistake. Good advice," she muttered and turned the page. "Do humans eat…uh…demons?" Unsettled by the image of a cheerful demon on a spit, she flipped to the next illustration.
"No!" more voices joined in.
"No, humans do not eat demons. But demons do eat humans," she read, grimacing at the image of a cheerful man on a platter surrounded by demons. "What kind of children's book is this?"
"Technically, they're not kids," Hannah replied.
Deidre's head was pounding.
The girl in front of her began speaking. "Humans eat plants and macaronis and-"
"Meatballs!"
"Chocolate."
"Oooohhh chocolate!" several kids echoed.
"The little angels have a thing for chocolate," Hannah explained.
"Sure," Deidre murmured, near fainting.
"Someone get Deidre a juice box!" Hannah ordered.
Three were thrust at her. Deidre took one and sipped. The cool liquid felt good on her throat.
She never should have left Wynn's. In fact, if she'd stayed away from the beach this weekend altogether and had dinner with her doctor instead of causing her boyfriend to be eaten by a demon, she wouldn't be facing an Immortal mood beast or teaching Immortal children not to feed humans rocks.

She'd never felt as secure or protected as she did in this moment in the arms of the person who would claim her soul soon.
They sat in silence throughout the afternoon, until the sun sank far enough out of the sky to perch on the ocean. Gabriel adjusted whenever she shifted but never let go, his strong arms wrapped around her possessively. With sunset came a chilled breeze. Deidre pulled her knees up and pressed her back into Gabriel. She buried her feet in the sand to keep them warm.
He said nothing, even as the last finger of light faded from the horizon and starlight replaced the sun. She didn't expect him to sit with her for hours; she definitely didn't expect him to stay solely for her comfort without trying to force anymore Immortal bullshit down her throat. He made it clear he didn't have to curry her favor, not with the Immortal Code on his side and the arrangement he proposed.
What did it mean that he didn't have to be there but chose to?
"Can you be away from your…underworld this long?" she asked at last.
"The dead aren't going anywhere."
Deidre snorted but forbade herself from laughing.
"You wanna know something?"
"No more secrets that make me cry," she warned.
"Trust me, it won't. I'm doing such a shitty job as Death, I got locked out of the underworld," he said, amused. "That's the other issue I've been dealing with, when not hunting you down to make you cry."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah."
"So you're a lost soul, too, like the rest of the lake and me."
"Pretty much," he replied.
She shivered at the memory of her interaction with a single soul. What would it be like to have the duty to protect billions of them?
"Why did you choose today for me to learn about Wynn?" she whispered.
He was quiet for a moment before responding. "I didn't realize things were bad enough between you and me that you'd trust the man who hurt you over someone trying to help you."
"Now I don't trust either of you."
"I can recover. He can't."
She wasn't going to admit out loud he was right. There was nothing Wynn could even do to make things right. She'd always known there were deep, dangerous levels of potential with Gabriel, if he ever figured out whether he wanted her or not.
"I feel lost," she murmured.
"You're not." He squeezed her. "Think of me as your anchor. Something you want badly to shove overboard."
"You're so not funny!" she said, unable to stop the laugh that slipped free.
"We have a similar sense of humor, I think."
"You're locked out of the underworld, herding lost souls into a lake and yet you're here trying to win over the woman destined to be your mate by divine laws but who doesn't trust you," she summarized.
"Is it working?"
"You've taken the first step on a very long path. At this rate, I'll be long dead before you succeed."
"I'm one step ahead of where I was this morning."
"You took that as encouragement, didn't you?" She twisted to meet his gaze, frowning.
Gabriel smiled.
"Aren't you worried?" she asked. "About the souls and your issues? I mean, why spend the day with me?"
"I'm where I need to be," he replied simply. ...more

This is 3.5 stars because though it did not make immediately interested it did catch me. The plot is interesting when you realize that what you are dealing with are immortals, and just any immortals but those who have been a part of our mythology for generations.

I found Lizzy Ford on BN.com last year during a time of desperation for books having read everything I was interested in at the time, grabbed "Katie's Hellion" for nothing and was hooked. Since then I have read her entire Rhyn Trilogy, War of Gods series and a stand alone called Rebel Heart.

This is a woman I admire - she can write good books FAST, and she publishes them herself allowing her fans the opportunity to satisfy their hunger for her characters and stori I'll admit it. I found Lizzy Ford on BN.com last year during a time of desperation for books having read everything I was interested in at the time, grabbed "Katie's Hellion" for nothing and was hooked. Since then I have read her entire Rhyn Trilogy, War of Gods series and a stand alone called Rebel Heart.

Wow. I want more.

This is a woman I admire - she can write good books FAST, and she publishes them herself allowing her fans the opportunity to satisfy their hunger for her characters and stories as quickly as they want. Well, that's her goal. Reality is that once you start getting a big following and you realize that there is more to putting out a good book than a great story with fantastic characters - that you really need to also focus on marketing, editing, cover design, interior design, publicity, etc., etc., etc. - that your deadlines will slip more than you want them to.

Which means I have been waiting for this book since early summer 2012. In fact, this is the first book in the two series I was reading that has come out since July 2012 - so I have been waiting far longer than I was expecting.

But boy is it worth the wait!

Yes, it is a popcorn book. It is a paranormal romance, not exactly a book I would typically pick up to read. Speculative fiction - absolutely. Romance - not so much. Add in that it is formulaic and I can promise you I avoid those like the plague. I am not someone who likes knowing what is supposed to happen when. But Lizzy Ford takes the formula and adds incredibly rich stories with fantastic characters who I just want to get to know on all levels. No matter how much I may like or not like the characters she has created, I tend to root for them by the end of the first act of the book.

"Gabriel's Hope" is no different, except that I have gotten to know Gabriel as a secondary character through the series preceding this one, The Rhyn Trilogy.

Gabriel, who is an iteration of Death rather than a fallen angel, has inherited his job from his former passive-agressive bitch of a boss. Thing is she really screwed him - both literally and figuratively. Literally - for 1,000 years she forced him to be her lover, talk about sexual harassment on the job. Figuratively - when she quit being Death she broke A LOT of rules creating havoc in the underworld. She also didn't leave a users manual for the job making things even worse. But one day, one particularly bad day, Gabriel happens to be on a beach where is meets a pixie girl with a blue face, painted like the Picts for fun, who captures his heart. The rest of the story is just so inventive you have to read it for yourself.

But read The Rhyn Trilogy first. Don't worry - they are all fast reads and worth their (really low) price tags. ...more

I have read books by Lizzy Ford before and I can tell you that she is amazing! She knows how to capture her audience with each word that she writes and let me tell you Gabriel’s Hope is no different.

We start out with Deidre who is very sick with a tumor in the doctor’s office, where Dr. Wynn lets her know that she has always been more than just a patient to him but there is the matter of her boyfriend Logan, she lets Dr. Wynn know that she is headed down the coast and will be back after the wee I have read books by Lizzy Ford before and I can tell you that she is amazing! She knows how to capture her audience with each word that she writes and let me tell you Gabriel’s Hope is no different.

We start out with Deidre who is very sick with a tumor in the doctor’s office, where Dr. Wynn lets her know that she has always been more than just a patient to him but there is the matter of her boyfriend Logan, she lets Dr. Wynn know that she is headed down the coast and will be back after the weekend after she has broken up with Logan she will let him know about the dinner Dr. Wynn wants to take her to. However things don’t always go as planned. Deidre who just happens to be past-death who left the immortal world to become mortal has made several not so good deals with immortals who just aren’t willing to let the past go, they demand payment and will stop at nothing to get it.
Enter Fate, handsome (in my mind’s eye) who wants to know what is going to happen to Deidre so he summons Dr. Wynn who just happens to be formerly dead-dead. It seems that past-death made a deal with him and he wants to know about her wellbeing as a mortal, it just seems that there are several others who want to know about the patient as well. However Fate is more than willing to remind the Dr. that he is close to messing with the future but won’t give any pointers on what the good doctor should do, but Fate warns Dr. Wynn that her destiny lies with Death.

Enter Death, Gabriel, who can’t figure out why mortals that are on the list to be collected are not the ones that his assassin’s keep coming back with, he needs to figure out what is going on and fast, so as he tries to salvage what is left of the underworld he cancels all remaining contracts until this situation can be fixed. Enter Rhyn head of the Council That Was Seven, who seemed to be in a matchmaking mood when he tells Gabriel that the council has found his mate the one that he can’t let any harm come to no matter what.

When Deidre and Gabriel meet for the first time the attraction to one another is not something that can easily be ignored no matter how much Gabriel wants to he can’t, so when demons try to kill Deidre Gabriel must step in and save her even if it is against his wish. For those of you who want a spicy romance with grab the arm chair drama and roller coasters then this is the book for you! I can’t wait to read more from Lizzy Ford and I will be on the lookout for more.

I loved Gabriel before when he was in the Rhyn Trilogy and I’m so happy Lizzy Ford gave him his own book! Gabriel is pretty bad ass in this book! He takes over for the former death who by the way left him with a huge mess to clean up. Demons are taking souls before they can get to them in the human world and he also finds out his predecessor raised an Immortal from the dead. An Immortal who no one was too fond of. If that’s not bad enough Rhyn is trying to hold together the Immortal Council. Whe I loved Gabriel before when he was in the Rhyn Trilogy and I’m so happy Lizzy Ford gave him his own book! Gabriel is pretty bad ass in this book! He takes over for the former death who by the way left him with a huge mess to clean up. Demons are taking souls before they can get to them in the human world and he also finds out his predecessor raised an Immortal from the dead. An Immortal who no one was too fond of. If that’s not bad enough Rhyn is trying to hold together the Immortal Council. When Gabriel Finds himself locked out of the underworld he’s convince he has pretty much failed at being death. That is until he meets Deidre and everything really goes to hell. She is a human dying from a brain tumor. She is strong and won’t let dying get in the way of finishing her bucket list. She has things to do before she dies. Little does she realize the person she met in the dark on the beach is Death himself. Poor Deidre has no idea who she was in her past life, but she must learn and learn fast because there are those who never did like the former death because she screwed everyone over. The secret is buried in her head, and the only way to uncover it may very well kill her.

Loved this book! The beginning was a tiny bit slow but once you get into it you really get sucked into the story. Gabriel is really left with a mess and then he’s struggling with his feelings for Deidre. This poor guy’s life is all messed up right now but he slowly starts to get things in hand. That is Until Lizzy Ford leaves us with the worst cliffhanger ever!!! Now I’m dying for book 2 because I really need to know how things end. The story is really well written and captures your interest after a few chapters I think for those of us who have read read the Rhyn Trilogy we know a bit more about who Gabriel is and what’s going on with Rhyn and the council but it’s really not needed to read this book you can still read it without reading the other but I still recommend reading the Rhyn Trilogy first to get the back story. All in all it was a great read! I have to stay Lizzy Ford has nailed it again!

Wonderful first installment to the spin off of the Rhyn Trilogy!!! I LOVED this book!!! So he did. He was immediately attracted to her due to her kindness and free-spirited attitude and how death doesn't scare her. After having a conversation about her life and what she wants to do on her bucket list one of them being: Having a one night stand with a stranger, and she asks him if he wants to, Gabriel isn't fazed by the offer and agrees. Gabriel was shocked the next morning when he saw who the dying woman (Deidre) was and his name was tattooed on her back. It meant only one thing...he is now mated to the one women he loved and hated more then anything for taking his heart and stepping on it more times then he's willing to admit.

Will Gabriel fix what needs to be done in order to get back to the underworld and take his place as Death? Will he ever forgive Deidre and finally see she is no longer the women he use to know? So many questions that needs answers.

I died when I read this book and wished Gabriel showed up at my door step after reading this! I must admit it, I loved the Rhyn trilogy but after Gabriel showed up in the series I was dying to hear more about him!! I finally got what I wished for and more!!! The ending completely had my mouth hanging open and cursing in rage but it was a good feeling because I now want MORE!!!! But the best about this book is that it never strayed from the point of where the author was going with her characters and the story-line by adding to many sex scenes or to much drama between the main character but add the right amount kickass action scenes, keeping things mysterious, being very detailed about her characters and the settings that had my imagination running wild!! I'm very excited to complete this series and find out what happens next!!

Now I seriously recommend this book to lovers of the supernatural and who loves a every tall & handsome man who looks like he can take down the world with his assassin sword and is one sexy lover but also who loves action a few sexy scenes and some gruesome scenes.

You did amazing Lizzy can't wait to read more of your books!!!

No spoiler alerts!! I am enjoying this series I cannot put the books down, I feel bad for Gabriel he can't seem to catch a break.. lol.. but he has a lot going on and LIfe hiring him at every direction... I am sure "Fate" will eventually get it right...
I definitely would recommend this series!!!

I don’t even know where to start. I guess first off, if you haven’t read the Rhyn Trilogy yet, then I would recommend reading it before diving into this awesome treat of a story.

As the synopsis tells you, this book is the continuation of the Rhynn Trilogy. I haven't actually read any of the Rhynn Trilogy although they are waiting for me on my kindle. I am so glad I joined this book club this year and am reading along with others weekly. Before you pick up this first book in the Rhyn Eternal trilogy, I really do suggest you read the Rhyn trilogy. It enhances these books and the cameo appearances by Rhyn and Katie, and gives a background to Gabriel's character, as well as Deidre's.

Finally, a romance novel that focuses on character development and conflict instead of constant, graphic sex and easy solutions to problems.
