In reading the title of this book, I suppose I was expecting a long novel of neurosis and perhaps even the funniest bits being in the book's descriptor, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is a memoir that takes you through Susan's life from being a young singleton to raising children to her eventual divorce and waking up one day middle aged. All of us who are "getting up there" so to speak wake up one day, look in the mirror and are surprised that there is no longer a 20 year old staring us in ...more

I was expecting a funny memoir about cycling and worrying and mostly I got a list of boyfriends.

Susan Orlins has led a pretty interesting life...I think. She just chose not to tell us much about the interesting things and instead talked about her dog or her visits to the psychiatrist to talk about boys. Despite the title, she seems not to worry much.

I bought this book on a whim because I enjoy following the author's daughter in twitter. Don't judge a book by it's daughter!

An ascetically entertaining collection of short stories for those who have been there and through it, and are largely settled and satisfied with life. Had to laugh at that Sarahneedsajob.com (reply) to Worrywarts email, and enjoyed her daughter’s noted remark to the ‘Cutie’ story.

Not bad. A bit disjointed. A bit self deprecating. Just a look into her life in a loose and casual way.

Meh

It reads exactly like what I think it is--a series of blog posts compiled into a book. It was fine.

I think I may be the wrong audience for this book. While I worry about everything under the sun (and a few things above it as well) I just couldn't relate to the author and her life. Now granted, I'm a single woman with no kids and only a few cats to keep me company, but in theory we were kind of similar at those times where she was single in the book.

Confessions of a Worrywart is Susan Orlins memoir of her life from middle school until

Susan Orlins has collected blogposts and essays together into a pleasingly low-key memoir of her life. By turns intriguing, frustrating, humorous, empowering or simply annoying, she lets readers into the innermost thoughts of Susan the boy-mad teenager, live-in girlfriend, survivor of broken marriages, broken promises, motherhood and apple pie, and world traveler. The essays vary in length and depth, with some of the shortest carrying the sharpest message, and some of the longest reading like ch ...more

Shelves: memoir
I won "Confessions of a Worrywart" from the Goodreads Giveaways, and enjoyed this witty and humorous memoir of events that lead to the writer's insatiable worries at the best and worst of times in her life. I thoroughly admire Susan Orlin's determination to learn Mandarin, her independent spirit in exploring Peking by bicycle and her constant need to be a good mother to her three girls. Even when facing the upheaval and instability that results from her husband Jeff's infidelity and their divorc ...more
