Oh, Lisa Marie Rice has got my number!

When I went to the supermarket on Monday I just happened to stop by the book section because...well, I don't need a reason. I just love books. I expected to see the new Lori Foster and was thinking about getting it when my eyes wandered and. There. It. Was. A Lisa Marie Rice book. A new one that I hadn't even known was being released. And it was three novellas! Oh, happy day!!

First up was Max and Paige's story, Fatal Heat. Max is at his commanding officer's beach house recovering from near death. No, seriously, he almost died because like many of LMR's characters, Max is a Navy SEAL. A badass, huge, and slightly scary SEAL. Right after Max delivers a head shot to a Bad Guy in a hot as Hell desert he's damn near blown up and almost loses his leg. The doctor's say he'll never walk again but Max says "Fuck that" and proceeds to get well enough to walk right out of that recovery facility. See. Badass.

Anyway, Max meets Paige who's his commanding officer's neice and Max's new neightbor. Paige also has an absolutely loveable, adorable, rambunctious, very untrained puppy named Max. I loved doggy Max.

So Fatal Heat was full of everything that most LMR stories are full of. Sex where the guy is so overwhelmed by lust that he just loses it. A very macho man who's handsome not because of his facial features but because of how he serves his country. A beautiful woman who's so sweet that you can understand why the hero is in love with her. Fatal Heat had the added bonus of adorable doggy Max and the rescue mission at the end of the story. Doggy Max and human Max kick ass!! Loved it!!

The next story was Reckless Night. Remember that badass master criminal, Drake, and his art genius of a lover, Grace? They're back!! We get to see them one year into their marriage, living on a small tropical island where Grace is making a life for them. We see her gently pushing Drake into making friends and Drake finally thinking of the perfect Christmas present for Grace after wracking his brain.

Reckless Night was a snapshot in time really. There's a bit of action but really it was kind of just like a week in the life of Drake and Grace. That was a bit of a let down for me. I really loved this couple's original book and wanted someothing a little more satisfying than a snapshot.

The last story is Hot Secrets; Jack and Caroline. This story had a little more action than Drake and Grace's though it's an even smaller snapshot. It's about two days in the life of Jack and Caroline. Jack is still aroused by just the fact that Caroline is breathing and Caroline is still a sweet lady who during this story shows that she's also pretty tough. All in all Hot Secreats was a nice little scene.

The highlight of this trio of stories was Fatal Heat and hope hope hope we get a story for Max and Paige's friends. Pllllleeeeeeaaassseeeee!!!!

This actually had 3 stories in it.

My favorite of the 3 is the title of this book, Fatal Heat. The characters are amazing and I LOVED the addition of the golden retriever especially when human Max, takes dog Max to rescue Paige. Oh and loved that Paige falls for dog named Max and then falls for a guy named Max. Funny!

Hot Secrets novella:
I can imagine how an alpha male would take having his wife in danger and thought Ms. Rice did a good job bring that across in her story. It was nice that Caroline was able to hold her own in the end and didn't need the typical "rescue the damsel" scenario. However, poor Jack who's use to handling danger has to stand on the sidelines and watch event fold. How tough that would be.

Reckless Night novella:
Simple story. My favorite part of the story is Drake's spidey sense. Nice touch to the story and loved Grace's comment at the end.

Three suspenseful, but fun stories wrapped in one book. :-)

Was pretty good. He is recovering from an accident and was told he would never walk again. Mad at the world he forced himself to push hard for a year in a recovery home and learned to walk again. Still mad and recovering he is dropped off at his commanders beach town house. The commanders niece is next door and decides to make him cookies to welcome him. Push comes to shove he takes care of her dog while she is at work. They become friends and lovers. She gets kidnapped. He saves her.

This book is actually three novellas, which, given the title, is rather deceiving...I mistakenly assumed that "Fatal Heat" was a full-length book that had two short stories tacked on. Oh, well. Nevertheless...

Fatal Heat - four stars (Should have been a full-length novel.)

Reckless Night - one star (Bleck! What was the point?!)

Hot Secrets - a somewhat generous three stars (Needed more development for me to really care.)

Total: 2.6 stars...so I'm rounding up to three.
