This collection breaks the mold of the stale, stock-standard zombie story. In Lynn Townsend's "W.O.L.", Knight Korin meets Doctor Avesy and is forced to consider the sacrifices that every Knight must make -- and wonder if the cure is worse than the disease. In "The Domesticated Zombie" by Rob Rosen, zombie Jake starts to show signs that he's not entirely dead, and Max, his ...more

I loved this book! All of the stories are well written and just the perfect length. Some are good for a laugh or two while a few of them made me think and maybe even tear up a bit. There were some great twists on the old zombie POV too! Read it!

I only gave 4 stars because the first and last stories in the collection were incredible and made up for the fluff sandwiched in the middle.

My rating here is for the five stories that I didn't write. So, yes, beware - my review is tainted by the bias that I am part of this collection. But I really enjoyed these stories! As I have written before, I'm not a big zombie fan when I read or watch movies. But this collection was original and enchanting. All of them unique. Cheers to Brooks for putting this together.

Several great stories in this book featuring Zombies. There was only one story I wasn't happy with and that was because I thought the MC's were extremely annoying. None of the stories are the same except for the fact that they all involve Zombies/Zombie apocalypses. Each story has it's own unique appeal to it and is most definitely worth a read.

Lynn Townsend - W.O.L. - 4 stars - very enjoyable

Rob Rosen - The Domesticated Zombie - 2 stars - the premise made me hugely uncomfortable

Alyx Shaw - Fox Spirit - 3 stars

Damian Serbu - Delicious Caleb - 3 stars

Kayci Morgan - Violet - 2 stars - I feel bad saying this, but it took me a bit to even remember this story

V.L. Locey - Two Guys Walk into an Apocalypse - 5 stars - I loved this. It was funny and gory and there was an elderly neighbor and a cat as sidekicks. (The cat really cinched it for me

Usually with anthologies it's a mixed bag where you like some of the stories but don't like some of the others. This one is more extreme, in that I loved some of the stories, while some of the others made me so mad that I added a couple authors to my "never-buy" list. Although it seems like those two extremes should end up with a three star rating, Lynn Townsend's W.O.L. was entirely deserving of an extra star all its own.

Elizabeth taught herself to read at the age of three, and started writing stories when she was five, though it took her a little longer to work up to erotica. She writes mostly sci-fi, fantasy, and romance. When she's not writing, she loves reading, roleplaying games, photography, scrapbooking, and geeky gadgets. She currently lives in Virginia with her two lovely children, their enormous cat, and ...more
