Recommends it for: Scholars
Before I read this book I was mainly familiar with the name Donald Keene as one of the most respected translators of Japanese fiction in the last century. When I spotted his autobiography for sale cheap I thought I'd give it a read and on the whole I found it fairly entertaining at times but with too many faults to recommend it fully.

The truth of the matter is, at a mere 287 pages I found the book dragging when I usually get drawn into biographies no matter who they're about. Since I have a life
