About the Author Shawnté Borris has been writing since 2012. It all started when her youngest started school full time and she went through empty nest syndrome. This is when her first novella, With Love began. It took 12 weeks to write, edit and publish. It debuted January 5th of the following year and opened #33 of the top 100. Shortly after, it became a top ten sensation of that year. She will always say, writing found her, she didn't find it. Currently Shawnté holds many International Bestselling records and awards over the years. Yet after a signing you'll still find her eating in pajamas, usually with her beloved best friend and assistant Lacy . www.facebook.com/shawnteborrisauthor author.shawnteborris@gmail.com
4.5 Stars Even though this is a novella, a lot of emotional ground is covered in a spectacular way. You learn how families can either fall apart, or become stronger in the process of grieving. Shawnte Borris definitely leaned from the Molly McAdams of emotional warfare, lol. Making you fall in love with all the characters, and internalizing their struggles.
The journey starts in a cab coming from who knows where. It feels like you are coming into the middle of something important, you just don't know what it is yet. You know something is terribly wrong, but aren't quite sure what it is. While riding in the cab, you realize Ally is lost and is running away from something. I was hooked to the story, for good or bad, at this point. I felt Aly had let me come along on a journey full of pain, and she needed me to stay strong and hear it all out to the end. I know I maybe a little too attached to my reading....but it hasn't served me wrong yet!
As the story developes and grows the character introduced become important to the story. All of them have a history and pain that needs to be explored. As this family takes her in, she is also, somehow, fixing them at the same time they fix her. It is absolutly beautiful.
No review would be complete with the mention of Luke. Ah...Luke. Sucessful business man, caretaker of the family, devestatingly beautiful, damaged, and fully smitten with Ally from first sight. Watching them do a dance of flirting and pushing was fun.
What I love about this book is its so different than anything out there. A beautiful story about finding love and hope again when you think it's impossible for you. A true love story with depth and feeling.
This book has heart. The main character, Ally is recovering from something devastating and the book carries you back into her past and then to the present where she is trying to begin anew. The characters are loveable and you wish the book were longer so you could get to know them even better. I'm looking forward to more from this author!
I was pleasantly surprised by this debut novella from Shawnte Borris. With Love is a story of heartbreak and learning to live again. Ally is living a more than happy life when a horrific turn of events changes her course. Leaving the life she used to leave far behind her Ally takes a flight and books herself into a hotel. A keen photographer, Ally see a wedding taking place and can't help but take a few pictures of the father and daughter, all of a sudden Ally is faced with brother of the bride Luke and as soon as their eyes meet there is an attraction. Can Ally ever overcome the tragedy of her past long enough to create a new future?? This story deals with some delicate and emotional situations and was handled very well, I liked Ally and really felt her pain. I would have loved to have seen more of a connection and interaction between Ally and Luke which maybe would have happened if it was a full length novel, although this didn't spoil the story for me at all. I loved the building relationship between Luke's family and Ally and his family were a great addition to the story. As a lover of epilogue this one doesn't disappoint giving you the warm and fuzzies :)
This is a beautifully written story of loss and how you learn to live and love again. While I was reading this it was if I was watching a film in my head I could see the characters and the way it developed to me that's how you know it's a great story when you feel yourself right in the thick of it. Well done Shawnte on your first book looking forward to many more xxxx
This story had me hooked from the begaining. I was rooting for the main characters and even had tears in my eyes some places. I love how much emotion and sweetness was in this book. It was a great Sunday afternoon read, and can't wait to read more from this author.
This book is amazing. It is a quick read but it is still a tear jerker. I recommend reading it if you like romance. Family and of cause a brooding alpha male :)
This book is hard to review. I don't know how to put my thoughts into words. This was a quick read. It is also a tearjerker. The subject matter is pretty serious and sad. I had trouble connecting with the characters. This book is supposed to be a love story but the couple really don't interact that much. The books deals with death and the grief that accompanies the death of a family member. I thought the concept of the story was good and this book had potential, but lacked the development that is needed to be a good book. This book was written in alternating time periods and different POV's....but it didn't flow well. The POV was changed without any notice so I was left wondering who was talking. Plus there was a lot of inner monologue that was really confusing. I think the author was trying to make this book a NA, but the only steam happened within the characters minds. With all that said, I would have to say that makes the ending unrealistic. The epilogue takes place 3yrs in the future but the information that was provided in the story just wouldn't lead to that ending. I was hoping for more if a connection between Luke and Ally during the book not just in the epilogue.
I was given this book as an ARC to read to give an honest review.
This is Shawnte's debut novel. It is a beautiful story of learning to live and love again after unspeakable tragedy and loss. Alyson Almon had it all and it was taken away in the blink of an eye. She attempts to pick herself up after only eight months of grieving and try a change in location. She is a photographer and stumbles across a wedding party on the beach outside her hotel room. She is drawn to the bride and her father and begins to snap candid photos of them. The brother of the bride Luke has recently returned home after the family lost their mother. He sees Ally and is drawn to her. When he realizes her photos are just as captivating and beautiful as her he can't deny the attraction he feels. He soon realizes that Ally must have recently had horrible loss in her life just by some of her spoken and unspoken words. Alley is pulled into the comfort of this beautiful family and is offered a job covering their up and coming gala. She is struggling with her strong attraction to Luke. Will Luke and Alley be able to heal each other and find happiness together? Can Alley be so lucky as to find true love twice in her life?
After suffering a terrible loss Ally decides she needs to get away from home to see if she can start moving on. She leaves her family and friends behind but she doesn't expect to find a whole new family... Once Ally arrives at her destination she starts to feel a little more normal day after day and one day she decides she wants to take some pictures and stumbles upon a woman on her wedding day. That woman looks so beautiful and carefree that Ally has to snap a couple pictures and when she turns around to walk away she runs smack dab into a hard chest...Luke... Luke is walking into the room to meet up with his sister when he spots a woman taking pictures of her and their father. He asks her to stay and take some more photos. Will Luke let Ally get away??? Can Ally open up about her past and all the grief she is dealing with??? What is next for Ally????
I liked the premise and overall storyline for this book! However, I feel like it was very rushed in a novella template. I didn’t get a chance to connect with the love story or the grief that some of the characters were experiencing. Without saying any spoilers, I know everyone grieves differently and that may be the hidden meaning behind this story, but the way the main character moved on and was against it one chapter and then the next chapter was in love was very hard to believe. As my preference, I didn’t care for the perspective/ point of view the story was written in. The lovable supporting characters, the story line itself, and the setting and it’s description were this books redeeming qualities for me!
This is a very sweet story of a who after a terrible, unthinkable tragity is forced by destiny to find herself again. While she feels like the struggle is hers and hers alone, so does not realize the profound impact that she has on an entire family that she has only just met in a series of "chances".
The characters are very complex and the story will draw you in. I was completely consumed by each and every detail in this beautiful story.
Shawnte Borris is a new author to me, but I hope to change that. I look forward to reading more by her in the future.
Going into this story I new that it was a novella/short story and I was ok with that. I'm sad now though because I feel like there was more that could have happened in the story it could have been a little longer and we could have had more time with all characters of the story which were all very interesting. I loved the story between Luke and Ally but I wished we saw more of them together, and how they help each other heal from their pasts.
This story has potential and with a willing editor, it could be great. I loved the idea behind this book and the love story. However, the book drags and the back and forth between the past and present is really confusing. This is the author's first book so I took that into consideration when I gave it four stars. Again, there is alot of potential in this book, but it needs some professional editing to smooth out the kinks.
The POV was kind of hard to follow it was never consistent. Also, the story wasn't fully developed in my opinion. There wasn't enough interaction between the two main characters for them to fall in love. I think they interacted a total of five times before she decided she loved him. It felt forced. They story was pretty good though.
I had not expected this book to be a novella. I thought it lacked flow within the story and the narration was beyond confusing. Although, I was surprised at suck strong character development for suck a short read.
Great story just a little slow for me. I am glad that Alyson did found love again and that Luke found it also. Coming together for the both of them has helped them all.
This novella was emotionally packed. I do think it is more a 4.5 for me but I would have loved a little bit more of a time span with the characters together. I am happy I read it! Will definitely be looking to get more from this author.
An easy read about love and love lost. The characters were all relatable. Storyline was fast paced and easy to keep up with. Overall the story was well written but I did find some shifts in the character voices difficult to follow.
It was a great love story with a happy ending but I wish it was it was longer and more detailed. I would have liked to read more instead of it feeling so rushed.
