It’s always good when a book pleasantly surprises you and that is exactly what this book did to me!

Charli Monroe is a heiress new to the small Texas town where she has just bought a ranch. She has a past as a runaway among other things and would prefer for her past to stay exactly where it is; in the past. She is young, ambitious and has a bigger agenda for her land then just raising cat

So to begin with, I am not really sure what rating to give this story. Considering the age gap between the hero and the heroine, I was kinda iffy when I began to read it. Yeah, I know 12 years isn't such a big deal but it kind of bugged me a bit. Age gaps are a tender spot for me, even more important than the actual age of the main characters. A couple of chapters in, I pretty much forgave Ellwood because Charli didn't act like the regular 24 year old college student. She was ma

Now anyone that knows me and what I like to review, you might have noticed I tend to stick with the books I really enjoy. So typically I’m a bit leery of reviewing anything that comes as an ARC or request. But I confess, I took a gamble and it paid off. I thoroughly enjoyed Gambling on a Secret.

You guys might have also figured out, there usually are certain reasons why I will like/love certain books. Of course, that could be why I like so many. :)

Nonetheless, I have to point out some of the thin

Gambling on a Secret, the title says a lot about this book. Gambling on whether or not to tell your secrets (and there are many secrets in this book), gambling on love, taking chances on committment. This book was full of "should I", "could I", "will I", & "won't I" from both of the main charecters. I really enjoyed the back and forth of the desicion making and thought processes of Charli and Dylan. Usually, too much of that puts me off of a book, but not in this case. It worked very well. This is the first story of Sara’s that I have read. Set in a cowboy/ranch life with a suspense element which is exactly what I like in a story. I couldn’t wait to read it and I definitely wasn’t disappointed.
Charli Monroe come to Texas to start over in her disastrous life. The former runaway who inherited the wealth of her grandfather’s ranch, and decides Colton, Texas is the perfect place to raise a few cattle and get her degree in social work to be able to help troubled teens. Needing some hel

HONESTLY this was a FABULOUS read. Gambling on a Secret is a gripping, entertaining and an absolutely delightful romantic read which is set in the town of Colton located in Texas. Sarah Walter Ellwood has scored with this book. This has been one of my favourite reads for 2013. The story held my interest from the beginning. I had a real hard time putting it down. I was so disappointed when it ended. I deliberately took my time reading it so I could savour every minute. I was pulled into the story ...more

Book Review- Gambling on a Secret by Sara Walter Ellwood

This is the second book by this author that I’ve read. It started out well and pulled the reader in instantly. The main characters are Dylan and Charli who both are dealing with major issues. Dylan is home after being injured while fighting in Afghanistan. He is drinking his physical and emotional pain away. Just before his injury and last mission, he received a Dear John letter from his wife Brenda telling him she was pregnant with another

You guys, Gambling on a Secret is such a spicy little treat that I was so happy to discover on my bookshelf! On a week when I really was not feeling well and was more than a little stressed out, this book is such a great antidote.

Charli and Dylan are one of those couples that you want to cheer for straight out of the starting gate. When he first drove up to her ranch, all pissed off and damaged, I wanted them to go toe to toe, straight to the bedroom! Sparks were there immediately, and I would h

Gambline on a Secret (GOAS) revolves around a lot of deception, lies, betrayal, and guilt. This is the first in The Colton Gambler Series, revolving in the town of Colton, Texas. Who to trust?, Who to love? These are just some of the questions Charlotte (Charli) asks herself throught GOAS. Heading back to her roots, Charli is introduced to several people in town and finding the right people to trust is a tes

I love when I can get wrapped up in a story, especially one that I had no idea I was going to like as much as I did this one.

I have to say Ms. Ellwood really impressed me with how easy I fell into the story and how everything flowed so nicely. I have said this before but I always have a soft spot for two character, very much broken and damaged, coming together and finding love. I have no idea why but there is just something beautiful about two broken pieces coming together and creating a whole.

I was really looking forward to reading Gambling on a Secret as I love Ms Walter Ellwood's way with words. It surpassed expectations. Her characters are well-rounded, with plenty of layers to keep you interested and empathizing with the decisions they make and before you know it, you've lost a little bit of your own heart to them. Ms Walter Ellwood has a great way of depicting scenarios in surprising ways and once she starts on the sexual tension, there's no going back. Charli has her life on tr ...more

What a good story! I was intrigued by the blurb and drawn in with the incredible characters that the author created. I find a broken man to be devestatingly sexy and I was not disappointed in Dylan. This is a man that needs the love of a powerfully strong woman. Charli has faced her share of demons but when fate throws a man that needs her love, she steps up to the challenge. There was enough romance, excellent writing and suspense to keep anyone entertained.

This is a wonderful, heartwarming sto
