Whew! I just finished NIGHTFALL. What a rocket ride through assloads of backstory, but somehow, all action! It's fluffy in a way--Gresh doesn't pause to do any buildup, she just lays that backstory out
and everyone acts on it with extreme prejudice, right *now.* Pay attention! Here comes another wowser action scene! But that's a wonderful thing in its way. Reminds me of how Ysabeau Wilce does pulpy adventure stories. But more Jungian ; ) Also, like Diana Wynne Jones, who never bothered with

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review. I feel bad to leave a review saying that I didnt like it, but I just could not get in to it.
The book started with the main character sitting on a bridge with friends, but there was no introduction into the story or characters, and it led me to keep flicking back to check I hadn't missed something.
The story is told in the pov of Alex, who is attracted to Vadim, a newcomer to town. The pov is told in first person, as though its happening
I too received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. First of all, I'd like to say that I really enjoyed this book. It had a good story line with interesting characters. My only complaint would be that it felt kind of rushed in certain areas. I wish she would have elaborated more on the characters past lives and relationships so we could have a better understanding for their undeniable connection to each other. The story could have definitely been longer but overall it was a ...more

I edited this book three years ago when the author's nonfiction companion guide to the Twilight series had made the NY Times best-seller list. She told me she knew what made the Twilight series so compelling and I double-dog dared her to put her fingers where her mouth was, so to speak. When this manuscript came in, I read it in one night. Her star-crossed bad blood lovers were riveting to me. She told me there were additional books in the series, so I re-published the first book to see if other ...more

This book kept me enthralled the entire time and I read it from cover to cover and couldn't put it down! It's a short read, so you can get through it fast. One vampire book to definitely pick up!

When I first read the synopsis I thought, wow, what a unique combination, Voodoo Priestess and a Vampire. I was eager to start reading. However, once I started reading and after a few chapters, I felt like I had missed something. I decided went back and re-read it and found nothing new, but I still felt like something was missing and yet I couldn’t put my finger on it. So I thought, maybe it needs a little more background or a little more details added here and there. I don’t know, I’m not a ...more

Ehhhh.... I really hate leaving bad reviews... but this one is 1 1/2 stars for me.

To start with the good, I think the concept is completely unique. I mean, the whole cliche vampire stuff is a part of it... but not the major focus. I just think the execution left much to be desired. There was little to no character development. The text sort of just jumped right into things -- left and right. It felt awkward, rushed and unrealistic

This book was hard to get into to . It was interesting but choppy and hard to understand in places. Also the characters were shallow and their reactions to some things didn't make any sense. I thought that the author just changed the personality of the characters to fit her needs and them change them back later when she could.

The plot was original but it didn't make any sense and it wasn't well developed. It lost or confused me in a lot of places. This book is about a girl named Alexandra
Do you know the feeling you get when you go on holidays - the feeling you must have forgotten something? That's exactly the feeling this book gave me - I felt I had missed something, forgotten to read a chapter, not gotten the point or something like that...
And I do not like this feeling!

It is a good book, nicely written, with a few more repetitions than necessary but that's the authors personal style and I decided to just let it go. What gave me this odd feeling of having missed something was

All i got to say is that i went into this book with an open mind , and i hoped that it would meet at least some of my expectations ... Let me tell you , It didn't even meet one . This book was sooo boring ! I've got to give the author props for her unique storyline , but it was poorly executed. I thought that the plot was seriously ridiculous. (view spoiler)

NOTE: I got this book as part of an author review.
I was excited to Ms. Gresh has won so many awards so perhaps expectations were a bit high going in to this read. She had some funny moments such as "For my gargoyle Gojim had just eaten Vadim's father. Not a good thing for future romance." chuckle worth. But often I felt like the author thought readers were inept to remember details such as the three times she explained the knives or ingredients to protections needed, etc. I thought the main

Note: I recieved this book from the author in exchange for a review.

This book is a whirlwind of action. When first starting to read this book, I was so confused. I felt like I had started reading halfway through the story. Normally, this would be frustrating and confusing, but somehow this worked. It was refreshing! I felt like I was learning with Alexie (Marie), instead of having an omnipresent story built up over time. I've *never* read a book like that before. It's completely against

I'm actually between feeling this book was okay (2stars) and liking it (3stars). And I think it's because around the time "The Venus" comes into it gets confusing. And confusing isn't the right word but it's the best one that fits at the moment. I felt like I was missing something after that point and it threw off the rest of the book for me. It does have some hot scenes and the plot up to that point had me really interested. But once that scene with the Venus every where like an octopus and the ...more

I received this book as an exchange for my review. I'm sorry to say that I just could not get into the book. Maybe if it was longer and had more time to introduce characters and explain things more, it could have captivated me. There was a lot in a short amount of time. Many different types of paranormal went on in this story and I just couldn't grasp some of it. There were vampires, voodoo, gargoyles, wraiths and more. The way Valdim and Alexandra came together was just too sudden and strange ...more

Alexandra is your normal girl who just majored in math, lives in a tiny old house, struggles to take care of her uncle, works at the local gun shop and has a couple a friends.

Everything seems normal until a sexy blond 'god like' vampire comes into her life.

Her uncle's health decay and tells her a secret that will change her life forever. Her friends are not really who they seem to be. Her boss is full of mysteries. Inanimate objects turn to life. Love is complicated, almost impossible.

When I finish reading half of the book, I finally admitted to myself that this is just one of those books that are not meant for me, I just can't get into it-I feel bad for not feeling connected with the characters, I always find myself distracted~putting down my tablet every now and then.
And for me there are too many unresolved issues at the end, like..I would love to know more of Xerxes and Alexandra's past in able

This book took me a bit to get into, but I was glad that I stuck with it. I like how the author jumped right into the story and the reader learned about each of the characters along the way. This was a well-written book with interesting characters. The premise is about two people who are forbidden to, yet they fall in love, something I never grow tired of reading. The paranormal genre is not something I typically do not read, but the idea of vampires struck up my curiosity although the voodoo ...more

I was given an opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

I usually like all the books I read. The paranormal genre is a new one I started reading, so when I read vampires and voodo were being mixed together I thought 'how exciting.' This book did not meet all my expectations. I felt like the story of Alex and her vampire could have flowed a little more smoothly. Their attraction didn't seem to flow smoothly.

I was excited reading the summary and was really into it during the first few

I really wanted to like this book but I really couldn't. I felt the story was rushed and that there was to much going on and The story line threw me for a loop. There is not many times that I cannot finish a book, but this was one of those times. Although I had to push through it and finish it. I thought that this could have been a wonderful story had things been different

"I love vampire and anything paranormal, so when I started reading this I was not disappointed. I can't stand a story that is slow and this one wasn't. It was filled with non-stopping action. The plot kept me turning the pages and the characters, well let's just say I wanted to kill the villain. I can't wait to read more from this author." Trinity Blacio

This is a wonderful play on the tropes of Twilight (hence the cover). Instead of a passive, bland heroine, she gives us a reincarnated voodoo queen (who in this life just graduated from college with a math major), an animate gargoyle companion, Venus de Milo with her arms intact, and a bunch of other deliciously wacky twists. Plus some juicy 18+ scenes.

I really wanted to get into this book, but I just could not. The story and the paranormal got me confused at times and I did not care for the protagonists relationship at all. It was really hard for me to rate this book so low since the idea for the book was good, it was just executed as expected.

I love books with Vampires. What can I say they are my weakness. This story had your Vamp, Goddess and Vodoo and what a mix do they have. Will Love conquer all that's the big question? My question is Does Vadim love Alexandra or Marie? I really hope the story continues, and we get answers.

a short read.

The book has a promising plot and background and I did enjoy it, but I sometimes felt it was rushed or that there wasn't enough substance so information was repeated. I also wish that it didn't end the way that it did I'd like to know what happens.
